Chapter 53: The Apology Bouquet

“Were you talking to me…?”

It was so hard to believe that he had to ask. He even glanced behind himself once, wondering if there was someone else there.

“I never thought you’d actually worry.”

That was the answer Chae Woo-seok had come up with to the question, ‘Why was Go Ha-jin in such a bad mood first thing in the morning? I even brought him porridge.’

Go Ha-jin cared about that article. And he had worried about Chae Woo-seok. Everything he had said and done pointed to that conclusion.

“…Why would I worry?”

“How would I know? Anyway, sorry for not telling you beforehand.”

So he apologized first.

To be honest, he didn’t feel particularly sorry. More accurately, he didn’t even understand why it was something worth apologizing for. Until now, even Go Ha-jin’s grumbling tone hadn’t sounded unpleasant to him, but today felt strangely different.

Seeing Go Ha-jin acting cold bothered him. It felt a lot like their honeymoon.

“So… you even bought these flowers because of that?”

“Not exactly.”

Only now did Go Ha-jin understand the meaning behind the flowers in his hand.

An apology.

The bouquet itself was surprising enough, but hearing an apology from Chae Woo-seok was even more unbelievable. He had thought he had already given up and let go.

Chae Woo-seok was just that kind of person, and expecting anything from each other in this relationship was simply greed.

Apparently, that wasn’t true.

At Chae Woo-seok’s apology, the irritation he thought had disappeared surged back up.

“Shouldn’t you at least give me a chance to explain?”

He wavered.

Logically, he knew there was no reason to listen, no value in hearing it.

But he wanted to.

At the same time, he didn’t.

What if a few words from Chae Woo-seok made all of this discomfort disappear? What if useless expectations started creeping back into his heart?

Expectations?

Toward Chae Woo-seok?

Ridiculous.

Fine. Then he’d hear him out.

“Let’s go inside and talk.”

Maybe because he wasn’t fully recovered yet, standing for too long was still difficult. Whether it was mental exhaustion or physical fatigue, he wasn’t sure.

Go Ha-jin headed into the room first. He didn’t want the eyes and ears undoubtedly lurking somewhere nearby, monitoring the situation, to witness this.

“You’re not going to do it?”

“Do what?”

“Don’t people usually say something like, ‘What exactly are you sorry for?’ in situations like this?”

The moment they entered the room, Chae Woo-seok joked.

That phrase felt like a landmine.

Go Ha-jin imagined being asked that himself and immediately decided he never wanted to say it to anyone else.

“Sounds like you already prepared an answer.”

“Maybe. If you’re curious, you can ask.”

Go Ha-jin sat down at the table. Chae Woo-seok took the seat across from him.

It had just been a joke, thrown out to lighten the icy atmosphere surrounding Go Ha-jin, but it didn’t seem to work. Though Go Ha-jin spoke calmly, the way he gripped the peonies made it look as though he might smash them over Chae Woo-seok’s head.

“What exactly are you sorry for?”

He asked the playful question anyway.

It really did feel…

Like they were an actual married couple.

The thought made him laugh at himself.

“Hmm… for not telling you about yesterday?”

“That’s all?”

“I think so.”

Seeing Chae Woo-seok answer without hesitation, Go Ha-jin gave up once again.

Right.

What was he expecting from Chae Woo-seok?

“Fine. Got it.”

Not wanting to drag the conversation out, he decided to end it there.

At least Chae Woo-seok had thought enough to apologize.

That would be enough.

He started to rise from his chair.

Then…

“Because everything written in today’s article is fake. The only true parts are that I was there and that I smashed those bastards’ heads in.”

The words froze him in place.

He had barely lifted himself from the chair before sitting back down.

Fake?

All of it?

Every nerve in his body focused on Chae Woo-seok.

After a brief pause, Chae Woo-seok continued when he saw Go Ha-jin staring directly at him.

“I went because a friend of mine was getting married. I was there to congratulate him…”

What followed was completely different from the article.

The only omega present among his group was the friend getting married and the friend’s fiancée. He hadn’t even known there was an omega at the other table.

It was true that he had assaulted them.

But it wasn’t because of the omega at that table.

“…Then why did you hit them? You wouldn’t just beat up random people drinking for no reason…”

The question came naturally.

The Chae Woo-seok Go Ha-jin had observed so far was certainly reckless and careless.

But he wasn’t stupid.

If he hadn’t intentionally created a scene, there had to be a reason.

Yet Chae Woo-seok hesitated.

“Well…”

He could simply say it.

‘Because of you.’

That was the truth.

And it wasn’t as though there was any reason to hide it.

But now that he thought about it, it sounded strange.

Of course hearing people talk about Go Ha-jin made him angry. Go Ha-jin was, after all, the omega son-in-law of the SHS family and the person married to him.

But had he really needed to get that angry?

So angry that he ignored every consequence?

Who exactly was Go Ha-jin to him?

He couldn’t answer that himself.

“…They were having a disgusting conversation. Talking about omega holes and… stuff like that.”

No.

Even now he thought he should have split their skulls open for real.

Even while omitting the subject and glossing over the details, the anger was already rising again.

“Anyway, those bastards twisted everything and fed it to the press.”

Go Ha-jin studied Chae Woo-seok’s eyes carefully.

He had always believed he was good at reading people.

But right now, he couldn’t read a thing.

At least not from what he could see.

And yet…

Strangely enough.

“You’re just going to let them get away with it?”

“Huh?”

“You should kill them or socially destroy them or something! If you just take it once, they’ll think you’re an easy target!”

Chae Woo-seok stared, startled.

The story shouldn’t have been believable.

What kind of omega rights activist beat people bloody because they made crude comments about omegas?

It made no sense.

Yet somehow Go Ha-jin believed him completely.

And now he was angry on his behalf.

“Y-Yeah! Exactly! My father won’t let them off. Don’t worry about that.”

“Well… if the chairman is handling it, then it’ll probably be resolved.”

In conclusion…

Chae Woo-seok had not cheated.

At least not yet.

And even the reason for the fight wasn’t entirely bad.

People like that deserved to get punched.

If anything, Chae Woo-seok deserved praise for delivering justice.

“So from my perspective it wasn’t a big deal, which is why I didn’t mention it. I just didn’t realize you’d worry that much.”

“W-Worry? Me? I absolutely did not!”

“That’s weird. Team Leader Yang said you only ate the dinner you’d prepared last night this morning. Apparently you sat there all night waiting without even changing clothes.”

‘That bastard actually tattled…?’

Go Ha-jin immediately decided that Team Leader Yang’s discipline would need some serious adjustment later.

“I just didn’t have an appetite. I absolutely wasn’t waiting for you.”

“Sure. Thanks for being jealous, then.”

For a moment, Go Ha-jin wondered if he’d misheard.

Had Chae Woo-seok’s mouth malfunctioned?

“W-What? J-J-J-Jealous?”

He shot to his feet.

Absolutely not.

Jealous of what?

That Chae Woo-seok was out drinking while he was stuck at home?

That he couldn’t go out and surround himself with alphas?

The very idea was ridiculous.

He didn’t even enjoy that sort of thing.

Jealousy didn’t apply here.

As Go Ha-jin stood, Chae Woo-seok rose as well.

He slowly circled the small table and approached him.

“Hmm. The part where I was supposedly hanging around with other omegas?”

“H-Hell no! W-We aren’t even that kind of relationship!”

“Go Ha-jin.”

He had been in the middle of protesting that theirs was only a contract marriage.

Then Chae Woo-seok called his name.

The playful tone vanished entirely.

The weight behind those two syllables made Go Ha-jin’s heart drop.

“Are you going to keep saying things like that? Every time you open your mouth it’s the same thing. What if someone hears you?”

“Ah…”

He had a point.

Thoughts became words.

Words became habits.

If he kept acting like this, it would eventually show.

One day he might slip up.

Of course, that wasn’t Chae Woo-seok’s real reason for getting serious.

He was simply irritated by Go Ha-jin constantly saying things he didn’t want to hear.

The rest was an excuse he came up with afterward.

“Got it. I’ll really erase that from my head this time.”

When Go Ha-jin decided something, he followed through.

“Good. Act like a real married couple, okay?”

“Yes. Like a real married couple!”

Smart or dense, it was impossible to tell.

Chae Woo-seok found himself oddly relieved to see Go Ha-jin back to normal.

The way his eyes sparkled with determination was ridiculous.

‘Like a real married couple.’

What nonsense.

They were a fake couple from the start.

Pretending wouldn’t magically make it real.

Still, he decided not to say that out loud.

He wanted to play along with this a little longer.

“Then let’s say you weren’t jealous…”

A grin tugged at his lips.

“Guess I should do my duty as a husband too.”

“W-What are you doing all of a sudden?!”

Without warning, Chae Woo-seok grabbed Go Ha-jin by the hips.

The strength of his grip felt as though he intended to crush them.

Startled, Go Ha-jin tried to push him away, only for his pants and underwear to start slipping down instead.

“As a husband, I should make sure you’ve been resting properly and applying your medicine like I told you.”

“Have you lost your mind?!”

“You should probably keep your voice down. What if someone comes in?”

The room was so soundproof that even shouting at the top of one’s lungs wouldn’t be heard outside.

And unless something urgent happened, the staff never entered the master bedroom.

Especially not after everyone knew exactly what the two of them had been doing in there the night before.

But Go Ha-jin didn’t know that.

And Chae Woo-seok was thoroughly enjoying teasing him.

“Why are you even touching- ah!”

His body suddenly left the ground.

Ignoring whatever protests he was making, Chae Woo-seok lifted him and carried him to the bed.

He even flipped him over so his chest landed on the mattress.

“How am I supposed to check the condition if you can’t see it yourself?”

With a finger, he poked between Go Ha-jin’s cheeks.

“Y-You don’t need to check! And I think it’s basically healed now!”

“The doctor seemed to disagree. I think he said that if it gets infected, the tissue could die and become unusable for the rest of your life.”

A complete lie.

The injury was little more than minor friction damage.

The inside had been slightly torn because of Chae Woo-seok’s absurd size, but it was the kind of injury that would heal naturally even without medicine.

Though, of course, rest was still important.

“R-Really? It’s that serious…? I mean… it does feel uncomfortable when I sit…”

Words like necrosis and permanently unusable immediately frightened Go Ha-jin.

There had been a strange tingling sensation.

And sitting sometimes made him feel swollen.

But with everything involving Chae Woo-seok occupying his mind, and having no prior experience, he had assumed that was simply normal.

Now regret hit him.

“That’s why I’m checking. Lift your hips.”

Tap. Tap.

Chae Woo-seok lightly smacked him twice.

It was embarrassingly awkward to raise his hips on command.

But embarrassment wasn’t worth risking permanent damage.

Awkwardly, Go Ha-jin bent his knees and lifted his hips.

“Higher.”

He bent his knees more.

“Higher.”

He lowered his upper body and raised his hips a little more.

Still dissatisfied, Chae Woo-seok slid a hand beneath his waist and lifted him himself, spreading his thighs wider.

“Ah… this is bad.”

It really was.

Very bad.

An omega lying face-down on the bed with his hips raised.

Two soft, pale cheeks invitingly presented.

When Chae Woo-seok spread one side apart, a small pink opening nestled in the depths became visible.

“F*ck.”

This was a serious problem.

“…Is it really that bad? Should I go to a hospital right now?”

Not a chance.

The thought of anyone else seeing this was completely unacceptable.

“I’ll take care of it. Stay still.”

Chae Woo-seok pulled the flesh apart even wider with both hands.

The tiny opening twitched.

As if startled.

As if inviting him.

As though it were asking to be filled again.

Greedy little thing.

After everything from the night before, it still wasn’t satisfied.

And so, he decided to indulge it.
