Chapter 70: Tricked Into a Kiss

“…Wait, do what?”

Go Ha-jin’s first thought was that this had to be some new form of bullying.

Maybe it was because of the way Chae Woo-seok had been glaring at him as if he wanted to crush his heart all evening, but Ha-jin genuinely wasn’t sure he had heard correctly.

‘A kiss?’

‘Out of nowhere?’

It was absurd.

Granted, sitting on Woo-seok’s thigh wasn’t exactly normal either, but so many bewildering things had happened in succession that his brain had stopped functioning properly.

His body, however, seemed to understand perfectly.

His palms grew damp where they rested around Woo-seok’s neck.

His gaze drifted downward.

To Woo-seok’s lips.

The man’s mouth was strangely smooth, devoid of any visible lines, the color vivid and striking.

Ha-jin swallowed.

Even after forcing down the saliva pooling in his mouth, the thirst that had begun somewhere deep inside him refused to disappear.

“A kiss.”

“But what does that have to do with-”

It was the last protest his rational mind managed to produce.

‘What possible connection could a kiss have to solving today’s crisis?’

Yet even while questioning him, Ha-jin found himself leaning closer.

Woo-seok simply watched.

He was dying of impatience.

Part of him wanted to grab Ha-jin by the collar and kiss him already.

But this had its own charm.

Ha-jin’s eyes squeezed shut.

Every muscle around his mouth tensed.

Like someone attempting his first kiss.

Well.

It technically would be their first.

The accidental collision that had ended with their lips brushing didn’t count.

Would he actually get here before midnight?

Was he moving at all?

The distance seemed completely unchanged.

Every time Woo-seok felt his patience reaching its limit, he tightened his arm around Ha-jin’s waist.

And each time, Ha-jin reflexively moved a little closer.

Finally.

At long last.

Their lips touched.

And then…

Nothing.

Ha-jin froze.

Completely.

Woo-seok opened one eye.

The sight nearly made him laugh.

The man looked as though he were preparing for execution.

His eyes were squeezed shut so tightly that the corners trembled.

If that was the best Ha-jin could manage, there wasn’t much to be done.

“Mmph- !”

Woo-seok wrapped a hand around the back of Ha-jin’s neck and pushed his tongue into his mouth.

Even parting Ha-jin’s lips was difficult.

They were clenched tight with tension.

But once inside…

Warm.

Soft.

Ha-jin’s heated mouth welcomed him immediately.

The tongue trying desperately to retreat deeper was brushed and coaxed forward.

Tentatively.

Awkwardly.

Eventually, it responded.

Then warmth settled against Woo-seok’s cheeks.

Ha-jin had cupped his face with both hands.

Tilting his head, he carefully chased Woo-seok’s tongue.

It was the first time.

The first time Ha-jin had ever kissed him this eagerly.

“Hng…”

The kiss was terrible.

Objectively speaking.

There was no technique.

No rhythm.

No skill.

Ha-jin simply licked and pressed wherever instinct guided him.

Yet somehow it wasn’t bad at all.

His clumsy enthusiasm was more intoxicating than practiced expertise.

Especially when he wrapped his lips around Woo-seok’s tongue and sucked gently.

Where had he learned something like that?

The thought only made Woo-seok harder.

As a reward, he slid one arm around Ha-jin’s shoulders.

His free hand settled on Ha-jin’s hip.

The touch wasn’t rejected.

If anything, Ha-jin kissed him more desperately afterward.

“Mmh…”

The moment stretched.

Long.

Hot.

And far too easy to lose himself in.

****

“Take your hands off me.”

The words came much later.

Long after the misunderstanding.

Long after the argument.

Long after Woo-seok had finally managed to explain himself.

Ha-jin stood with his arms crossed.

Woo-seok’s hand remained stubbornly around his waist.

“I already apologized.”

“You lied.”

“I said I was sorry.”

“You lied while pretending there was a solution.”

“There is a solution.”

“Then why didn’t you say that first?”

Woo-seok opened his mouth.

Then closed it again.

Because there was no good answer.

The truth was embarrassingly simple.

He had wanted a kiss.

That was it.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

Ha-jin stared at him.

Then snorted.

“Unbelievable.”

“You’ve said that three times.”

“Because you’re unbelievable.”

“Yet you’re still standing here.”

Ha-jin immediately regretted that.

The corner of Woo-seok’s mouth lifted.

That smug expression.

The one that always appeared whenever he sensed victory.

“See?”

“See what?”

“You’re not actually angry anymore.”

“Who says?”

“You.”

“I didn’t.”

“Your face did.”

Ha-jin pointed toward the door.

“Get out.”

“No.”

“Get out.”

“No.”

“Chae Woo-seok.”

“Go Ha-jin.”

The two stared at each other.

Seconds passed.

Then Ha-jin laughed first.

A short, helpless laugh.

The moment he did, Woo-seok felt something loosen inside his chest.

Relief.

Simple, undeniable relief.

Only then did he realize how much seeing Ha-jin turn away from him had bothered him.

The possibility of being avoided.

Ignored.

Shut out.

For some reason, he couldn’t stand it.

“You know,” Ha-jin muttered, “you’re really annoying.”

“I know.”

“You act like a psychopath sometimes.”

“I know that too.”

“And you’re terrible at apologizing.”

Woo-seok considered that.

“That’s probably true.”

“Probably?”

“Definitely.”

Ha-jin groaned.

“You’re impossible.”

“Yet here you are.”

“Stop saying things like that.”

“Like what?”

“Things that sound weird.”

Woo-seok smiled.

“Then what should I say?”

Ha-jin opened his mouth.

Then stopped.

Because he had no answer.

And because Woo-seok had stepped closer.

Far too close.

“Woo-seok.”

“Mm?”

“Don’t.”

“Don’t what?”

“Whatever you’re thinking.”

“Who says I’m thinking anything?”

“You always look like that when you’re thinking something.”

“Interesting.”

“It isn’t.”

“It is.”

Before Ha-jin could retreat, Woo-seok slipped an arm around his waist again.

Warm.

Firm.

Familiar.

This time Ha-jin didn’t bother trying to escape.

And somehow, that felt more dangerous than resistance ever had.

Woo-seok lowered his head slightly.

Their foreheads nearly touched.

“Anyway.”

“What?”

“The matter with Jae-yi is already handled.”

Ha-jin blinked.

“And?”

“And you don’t need to worry about it anymore.”

“That’s it?”

“That’s it.”

Silence.

Then,

“…You really could’ve started with that.”

“I know.”

“You absolute bastard.”

“I know.”

Ha-jin laughed despite himself.

And this time, Woo-seok laughed too.

For the first time all day, neither of them felt particularly anxious.

The problem still existed.

The future remained uncertain.

Jae-yi was still dangerous.

Chae Il-joo still had his own plans.

Lee Ah-seong, Tae Seol, and Jun-seok were all pieces in a game that had yet to end.

But for tonight.

Just tonight.

That could wait.
