Chapter 45: The Awakening and the Pursuit

On the bed, Ji Wushuang, who had fallen into a deep coma, was still unconsciously calling out for his disciple. Although his voice was muffled and hard to distinguish, everyone in the room was a person of profound cultivation, so how could they not hear it clearly?

Seeing that the Sect Master had been harmed to such a state by Wolf Girl yet remained stubbornly obsessed, the elders felt a sense of resentment in their hearts, frustrated that he failed to meet their expectations.

Meanwhile, Shui Jingxuan’s face had long since darkened. His gaze, fixed on Ji Wushuang, was like a sharp blade. He wished he could slice open his brain, scoop out all the memories related to Wolf Girl, and burn them to ashes.

“Master, Wolf Girl has already left and won’t come back. No matter how much you miss her, it’s useless.” Shui Jingxuan tightly gripped Ji Wushuang’s large hand, leaned in, and whispered in his ear, “Forget her. From now on, your disciple will stay by your side.”

It seemed the last sentence had an effect. Ji Wushuang stopped murmuring, and the brows that had remained tightly knitted in his coma finally relaxed, revealing a calm and peaceful expression.

Seeing him settle down, Shui Jingxuan quietly watched him for a while longer, tucked in the corners of his blanket, and then got up to handle the funeral arrangements for Ji Wushuang’s twin sister.

The elders did not dare step forward to disturb the deep master-disciple bond between the Left Protector and the Sect Master, so they all stood waiting at the door.

When they saw him come out, Elder Mu, urged forward by the others, approached and spoke in a low voice,

“Reporting to the Left Protector, the Sect Master still finds it hard to forget his love for Wolf Girl. When he wakes up and learns that Wolf Girl didn’t elope with someone else, but rather went on a massive slaughter against the Seven Sects, he will surely harbor lingering thoughts and go to her aid. For our tribe, this would be a great disaster.”

Moved by the Left Protector’s vision, they only wished to preserve their clansmen, allowing them to live a prosperous life first before seeking revenge.

Naturally, they didn’t want the Sect Master to act willfully after waking up, dragging the Demonic Cult into the bloody storms of the martial arts world.

Wudang had been annihilated. To avoid repeating Wudang’s disaster, the Seven Sects had long since united into an impenetrable iron fortress.

With their deeply intertwined roots and sheer numerical advantage, they were not something the mere Demonic Cult could handle.

At that time, the Demonic Cult might have to suffer the pain of extermination once more. Making such a massive sacrifice for a woman who had betrayed their people—just thinking about it filled the elders with righteous indignation!

Hearing this, Shui Jingxuan’s face fell, and he waved his hand, saying,

“This seat knows. Master is still in a coma, so it doesn’t matter for now. Pass down the order: the cult members are forbidden from mentioning Wolf Girl. Once Master wakes up, assign more hidden guards to keep an eye on him.”

“Sigh, if the Sect Master wants to know news about Wolf Girl, how could us subordinates dare to hide it? Furthermore, no matter how many hidden guards we assign, they wouldn’t be able to keep an eye on the Sect Master!” an elder spoke up with worry.

Shui Jingxuan’s proposal was merely a stopgap measure. At most, it could delay Ji Wushuang for two or three days, but it couldn’t stop him for a lifetime.

Thinking of this, Shui Jingxuan also felt very annoyed. He said in a deep voice, “This seat knows this is only a delaying tactic. When this seat goes back, I will think it over carefully and come up with a foolproof plan.”

The elders also knew this matter was difficult to handle. Seeing the Left Protector’s frustrated expression, they didn’t feel right bothering him any further, so they retreated to arrange the funeral of the female Sect Master.

At this time, the High Priest, who was walking at the very back, hesitated in his steps.

He lowered his head and thought for a moment, then finally turned back, cupping his hands toward Shui Jingxuan, “Reporting to the Left Protector, this subordinate actually has a method, but I do not know if I should speak of it.”

Shui Jingxuan glanced sidelong at him, stepping forward toward the secluded courtyard where the High Priest resided.

As he walked, he said, “As long as there is a method, it is worth a try. It’s better than Master waking up and dragging the entire clan down with him to be buried alongside Wolf Girl! This place is inconvenient; we will talk when we get back.”

He knew in his heart that since the High Priest had avoided the elders to report to him privately, this method must be somewhat unorthodox and not suitable for public knowledge.

The High Priest hastily nodded and followed closely behind the Left Protector. He was someone secretly promoted by the Left Protector, so naturally, he had to share his burdens.

Furthermore, the Left Protector had broad knowledge, and his various ingenious ideas were astonishing.

He had given the High Priest much inspiration in medicine, allowing him to gain a deeper comprehension of the medical arts.

He had long regarded the Left Protector as a godly figure. As long as he could help the Left Protector, he didn’t care even if it meant great disrespect to the Sect Master.

The two walked into the courtyard. Once Shui Jingxuan sat down in the hall, the High Priest served him a cup of tea, then went into the pharmacy and brought out an exquisite small pink bottle.

“You want to poison my Master?” Upon seeing the small bottle, Shui Jingxuan’s phoenix eyes narrowed slightly. His tone was extremely hostile, as if the moment the High Priest answered ‘yes’, he would obliterate him on the spot.

“This subordinate would not dare!” The High Priest knew that the Left Protector cared deeply about his Master. He hurriedly stepped forward in fear and trepidation to explain,

Reporting to the Left Protector, what’s inside this bottle isn’t poison, but a kind of potion that can erase all memories of a beloved person from someone’s mind.

This subordinate thought that if this medicine is given to the Sect Master to consume, making him forget Wolf Girl, then Left Protector, you will no longer have to worry, and the clansmen won’t be implicated.”

Erase memories? The High Priest’s words undoubtedly struck the deepest parts of Shui Jingxuan’s heart. His eyes flashed as he took the small bottle and examined it carefully.

Then, he spoke slowly, his tone lacking its previous hostility. “Are you certain of its efficacy? Will consuming it harm Master’s body?”

Seeing that the Left Protector was moved by the idea, the High Priest quietly wiped his sweat and respectfully answered,

“Replying to the Left Protector, this medicine is very effective. This subordinate has already tested its properties on many people with absolutely no errors. The medicine only causes a bout of a headache right when it is consumed; afterwards, it does no harm to the body whatsoever.”

The High Priest was also a medical fanatic. When he had free time, he loved researching pharmacology the most and could always concoct some strange and bizarre things.

Feelings of love

Shui Jingxuan took his words very seriously. Toying with the medicine bottle in his hand for a moment, he figured there was no reason for him not to use this medicine.

“Find a pair of lovers within the Cult and bring them over,” Shui Jingxuan instructed the High Priest.

The High Priest accepted the order and very quickly returned with a man and a woman.

Meeting the Left Protector for the first time, this pair of lovers was inevitably a bit nervous, not knowing where to place their hands and feet.

However, after they looked at each other, they seemed to find comfort and quickly regained their composure. From this, it could be seen that the two supported each other and shared a very deep affection.

Shui Jingxuan scrutinized their expressions, and after confirming their relationship, looked toward the High Priest. The High Priest understood.

Catching them off guard, he grabbed the woman who was closer and poured all the medicine from the small bottle into her mouth.

The man who came with her didn’t understand what was happening and turned pale with fright. Powerless to resist the High Priest and the Left Protector, he could only kneel down and beg bitterly.

In just a few moments, the woman suddenly clutched her head, grabbing at it frantically. After a bout of miserable screaming, she raised her disheveled head.

When she looked at the man again, she completely lacked the tender affection she had when she first entered; there was only coldness and alienation.

Seeing the man step forward to grasp her shoulders and comfort her, her eyes revealed shyness and anger, and she actually dodged far away from him as if avoiding a venomous snake or scorpion.

Seeing this, Shui Jingxuan curled his lips and pointed at the man, slowly saying,

“It really is effective! Pity this pair of lovers. Since the woman has already forgotten him, him keeping his memories alone is also a torment. It would be cleaner if they both forgot each other.” Having come from the apocalyptic world, Shui Jingxuan could always perfectly combine mercy and cruelty.

The High Priest nodded, took out another bottle of the new medicine, grabbed the continuously dodging and panicked man, forced open his jaw, and poured the liquid medicine down his throat.

Similarly clutching his head and screaming heart-wrenchingly for a moment, the man also completely forgot the woman after he sobered up. The two had entered deeply in love, but when they left, they had become complete strangers.

Shui Jingxuan stared at the two distant, estranged strangers as they walked away, then leisurely got up and headed toward Ji Wushuang’s courtyard. The High Priest grabbed the medicine bottle and followed behind.

Sitting on the edge of Ji Wushuang’s bed, Shui Jingxuan’s phoenix eyes narrowed slightly. He reached out and gently stroked his Master’s deep, handsome facial features, carefully tracing the contours of his face.

Only after a long while did he reluctantly withdraw his hand. He looked at the High Priest, who was waiting respectfully with his head bowed to the side, and opened his own fair palm.

The High Priest understood, hurriedly stepped forward, and carefully offered the medicine bottle with both hands.

Shui Jingxuan uncorked the bottle, leaned close to Ji Wushuang’s ear, and spoke softly with a smile in his voice,

“Master, how about your disciple make you forget the love in your heart? It doesn’t matter if you lose a portion of your memories; in the future, your disciple will help you create memories that belong to us!”

As his words fell, he paused. Seeing Ji Wushuang shake his head slightly as if struggling to wake up from his coma, he chuckled softly and said, “Heh~ Since Master isn’t speaking, it means you’ve agreed. In that case, your disciple will overstep.”

Finishing his words, he immediately pried open Ji Wushuang’s lips and poured the entire bottle of liquid medicine down, not spilling a single drop.

Seeing the Left Protector act so decisively and swiftly, the High Priest by the side couldn’t help but wipe the cold sweat dripping from his forehead, thinking: Left Protector, just how much do you want the Sect Master to forget Wolf Girl to be in such a rush!

As the liquid medicine entered his stomach, Ji Wushuang, even in his coma, felt the severe pain transmitting from his mind. He couldn’t help but toss his head from side to side and groan aloud. His furrowed brows and clenched jaw both proclaimed his agony.

Shui Jingxuan quickly leaned forward, gathered his head into his embrace, and continuously stroked his cheek with his hand. He softly comforted, “It’s fine, it will be fine after this bout of pain passes…” Just forget Wolf Girl. Remembering only me is enough!

The High Priest also stared nervously at the Sect Master’s expression, deeply afraid that some accident might occur. Fortunately, a moment later, Ji Wushuang stopped struggling and groaning, and his face regained its peacefulness once more.

“Please rest assured, Left Protector, the Sect Master is fine.” After taking Ji Wushuang’s pulse, the High Priest said to the Left Protector who was glaring at him like a tiger watching its prey.

“Very good.” Shui Jingxuan nodded, covered Ji Wushuang with the blanket, and walked out the door with his hands behind his back. As he walked, he said,

“Regarding today’s matter, only you and I know, heaven and earth know. Do you understand?” He didn’t care how others viewed him, but he didn’t want Ji Wushuang to resent him after learning the truth. This matter had to rot in their stomachs forever.

The High Priest looked terrified and hastily pointed to the sky to swear an oath, making a solemn promise never to leak the secret for the rest of his life.

Shui Jingxuan cast a sidelong glance at him and nodded faintly. The two walked far away, and just as they were about to part ways, Shui Jingxuan suddenly asked, “What is this medicine called?”

The High Priest was stunned for a moment. After snapping back to his senses, he replied quite proudly, “Replying to the Left Protector, this medicine can make someone forget love, so this subordinate named it the Water of Oblivion.”

Water of Oblivion? Shui Jingxuan’s mouth twitched. He gave the High Priest a strange look and slowly said,

“Although the efficacy of the Water of Oblivion is unique, it’s not of much great use. Why don’t you improve the formula and create a potion that wipes away all of a person’s memories? If you then add hallucinogenic ingredients to the potion, making people believe the new memories fabricated for them by others after their minds are muddled, wouldn’t that be even better?”

The High Priest stared blankly. A long moment later, he felt as if he had been enlightened. Slapping his thigh, he repeatedly said, “Brilliant foresight, Sect Master!” Then, without even bowing to say goodbye, he actually ran off like the wind.

Shui Jingxuan stared at his retreating back, slightly narrowing his phoenix eyes as he secretly pondered: In the future, I still need to have the High Priest develop more types of these mind-controlling drugs. This way, it will be much safer when we mine the gold mine, without needing to worry about anyone leaking the secret and drawing disaster.
