“Ah Le, stop sleeping, get up. We have to assemble soon.”
“If you sleep any longer, you’ll miss breakfast. Wake up.”
The young man shot up from the bed like a carp leaping, covered in a cold sweat, as if he had broken out of a nightmare and returned to reality. Lin Haiyu and the others were standing by his bed, looking at him with astonishment, as if to say, “Is his waking temper really this bad?”
“Um… I had a nightmare,” he said, his ears turning red as he coughed awkwardly. “I’m going to wash my face, wait for me.”
Before his words had even faded, he had already rushed into the restroom like a whirlwind.
Quickly taking off his t-shirt, he looked at the flat plains in the mirror. The young man’s suspended heart finally settled.
‘Thank goodness, it’s still flat.’
‘It didn’t get bigger or swell up.’
Tang Yunle leaned heavily against the wall in the restroom, letting out a long-suppressed sigh of relief.
He splashed cold water on his face, the refreshing sensation washing away his original weariness and fear. Looking at his reflection in the mirror, water droplets sliding down, doubt surged in his heart.
‘If it’s flat, then was everything that happened last night a dream?’
‘But that dream was too real.’
‘The sights, the sensations, and the exquisite comfort of his calves being wrapped in black stockings.’
But then, the young man had another thought. This must have been a dream, no doubt!
‘Gender-bending?’
‘How is that possible!’
‘I’m a staunch materialist!’
“Damn, that was scary,” Tang Yunle patted his still-trembling chest and muttered to the mirror.
“Tang Yunle, oh, Tang Yunle, how could you have such a dream? Could it be that the summer heat and your youthful vigor have made even your wet dreams so ridiculous?”
“Dreaming of turning into a girl… don’t tell me you’re thinking of using yourself as fapping material?”
At the thought of this absurd scene, the person in the mirror couldn’t help but laugh.
After composing himself, he deftly put on his military uniform and pants, grabbed his phone, and walked out.
Li Wei, waiting at the door, was already getting impatient. “Ah Le, hurry up, let’s go.”
“Coming. Let me see what time it is. We should have enough time to grab some breakfast,” he said as he lit up the screen.
The next second, his entire body froze as if nailed to the spot, his pupils constricting violently.
A bone-chilling cold shot up from his tailbone to the top of his head, making his hair stand on end.
The wallpaper on his phone should have been the God of Wealth holding a gold ingot. However, now… the festive God of Wealth had disappeared, replaced by two pairs of jade-like legs wrapped in black and white stockings, intertwined and overlapping.
The lace edges of the stockings were slightly curled, revealing lustrous skin. In the dim light of the night, the slender ankles and soft knees traced an alluring curve, suffocatingly ambiguous.
“Big sister sauce, this is our combo attack, you know~~”
The elegant and graceful words were written on the black and white beautiful legs, giving them a unique flavor.
Time flies, and a week passed in the blink of an eye.
The high-intensity military training had left this group of freshmen, who had been raised in ivory towers and never experienced the hardships of society, complaining endlessly.
The scorching sun overhead, the continuous punishments, and the drill instructors’ “devil training methods” had many people finding humor in their suffering, joking, “After this military training, with my skin color, I could probably apply for an international student subsidy.”
“I’m this tanned after only seven days. Won’t I be as black as charcoal in another two weeks?”
“Damn you, heavens! Can’t you just let it rain?!”
The dorm was filled with complaints. Li Wei and Lin Haiyu wailed at their reflections in the mirror, slathering skincare cream on their faces and hands.
As the saying goes, people’s joys and sorrows are not interconnected. While some were worrying about getting tanned, others were troubled by becoming fairer.
On his bed, Tang Yunle stared at his right arm, which was exposed from the cuff of his t-shirt—his originally healthy wheat-colored skin had become several shades fairer, as if the warmth of the sun had been drained from it.
He pinched his pale, cool skin, falling into a rare silence.
“Big sister sauce, how did your skin get like this?”
A fluffy head suddenly appeared in front of him. Almond eyes stared at his arm, her delicate eyebrows furrowed with worry. “You actually got tanned. Big sister doesn’t know how to take care of her skin at all. Now that you’re tanned, how will you get married in the future?”
“Boys these days all like fair and soft girlfriends.”
“Thankfully, I have some skincare cream here.”
Before her words had even faded, the girl had pulled out a tube of skincare cream from somewhere, her movements as swift as a little cat.
Tang Yunle was about to resist, but she grabbed his wrist, and the lightly floral-scented cream was already being applied.
Watching the girl’s fierce yet earnest expression as she applied hand cream for him, Tang Yunle felt like crying but had no tears.
After a week, he had finally figured something out.
He was probably being haunted by a ghost right now.
This girl who had given him lemonade was a living, breathing female ghost.
During this week, Tang Yunle had also gathered some information about the female ghost.
She called herself Tang Yunke, his younger sister, and her dream was to marry someone with him.
Furthermore, the female ghost was invisible, undetectable, and intangible to outsiders.
For example, right now, in the eyes of his roommates, his bed was empty, but in his own eyes, such a beautiful girl was lying on his bed.
However, she didn’t follow him around 24/7. It was more like a summon. If he called her, she would appear. If he didn’t, she would appear periodically.
Every time she appeared, she would either bring him lemonade, a hot towel, or chat with him.
At first glance, it might seem like a scene from “A Chinese Ghost Story,” a tragic romance between a human and a ghost, like Ning Caichen and Xiao Qian.
But Tang Yunle didn’t think so.
In “A Chinese Ghost Story,” Xiao Qian and Ning Caichen at least had a tragic romance, but this female ghost who was haunting him wanted to turn him into a girl and then marry someone with him!
“Your packages are here.”
The dorm room door opened, and Qin Liang walked in carrying several large boxes.
During military training, time was tight, so the light task of picking up packages fell to him. It was on the way anyway, and Qin Liang himself had no objection.
After thanking him, the others quickly took their packages.
Tang Yunle tore open his package, took out his ghost-exorcising kit, and quickly put it on.
With “The Theory of Materialism” in his left hand, a Bible in his right, a feathered headdress like that of a Native American on his head, and various necklaces around his neck, he looked at his bed with a serious and solemn expression, muttering to himself and performing a shamanic dance.
Qin Liang and the others couldn’t understand Tang Yunle’s performance art, but thinking about some of his recent strange behavior, they felt relieved.
‘College students, after all, always have a bit of a fun-loving side.’
‘Maybe he’s performing a rain-praying ceremony. This is an essential program every year during military training, a must-try.’
He opened his own package, took out a few bottles of ink, opened one, and tried to put the others away properly. He let the tip of the fountain pen with the golden patterns absorb the ink.
He didn’t know why, but this pen seemed like a picky child. Each type of ink could only be used for a few writings. After that, he had to switch to a new type of ink, otherwise it wouldn’t produce any ink.
Qin Liang didn’t understand the principle behind it, but he found it quite fun, like feeding a picky and novelty-loving pet.
After absorbing the ink, he replaced the ballpoint pen he usually used for a change and began today’s diary entry:
“September 16th, during military training, the weather is hot. Although I’m a sick patient and don’t have to do military training, I still really hope it rains.”
