Chapter 90: The Heaven-Defying Magic of Oblivion

As the whirlwind drew ever closer, Chixiao cast aside all hesitation.

With a decisive swing of his magic staff, he conjured a Flame Shield to fend off the assault.

After all, as an apprentice fire mage, this was likely the most potent defensive spell at his command.

Yet, it was a universally acknowledged truth that fire, being an energy, lacked the corporeal substance of an earth-element spell.

While it might offer some resistance against energy-based magical attacks, the whirlwind bearing down on them originated from a Golden-tier magical beast, the Phantom Cloud Leopard.

Its ferocious wind pressure effortlessly shredded the Flame Shield to pieces.

More alarmingly, the whirlwind absorbed his own flames, transforming them into a colossal wave of fire that surged back towards him.

“Damn it!” Chixiao cried out, his voice laced with dismay.

He had clearly overestimated the defensive capabilities of his Flame Shield.

After all, he was facing a Golden-tier magical beast, a Phantom Cloud Leopard; the sheer ferocity of its wind energy should have been a clear indicator.

Yet, in the heat of the moment, Chixiao had instinctively resorted to his Flame Shield for defense.

As the scorching heat wave threatened to engulf him, he frantically rasped:

“Everyone, run—”

Before he could utter the word, Su Liyue, with an unhurried grace, raised her magic staff and pointed it directly at the roaring, fiery whirlwind.

“Magic of Nothingness, transform existence into oblivion.”

Su Liyue’s voice, clear and cool, flowed like a spring of ice.

With a delicate tap of her staff, the terrifying fire tornado vanished as if wiped from existence by a divine hand.

There was no explosion, no lingering aftershock; it simply ceased to be, like a chalk drawing on a blackboard obliterated by a magical eraser, leaving not even a wisp of heat in its wake.

The entire process of elimination was even more impeccable and swift than when she had nullified Zhao Yan and Lin Mo’s combined spell just yesterday.

Though Chixiao had witnessed Su Liyue wield this miraculous Magic of Nothingness to neutralize an attack the day before, seeing it again today still left him utterly stunned.

This time, she had nullified a wind-attribute assault from a Golden-tier magical beast, the Phantom Cloud Leopard, not merely an apprentice mage’s elemental spell.

This implied that her Magic of Nothingness could not only dissipate the elemental spells of ordinary students but also neutralize the magical attacks of monstrous beasts.

Could this ‘Magic of Nothingness’ truly be so utterly heaven-defying?

It was akin to wielding a cosmic eraser without any limits; with a mere thought, she could effortlessly expunge any magical construct.

Within a cultivation system fundamentally built upon elemental magic, such an ability was tantamount to overturning the very laws of combat governing the entire magical world.

Chixiao swallowed hard.

Setting aside any potential limitations on mana consumption, the seemingly delicate girl before him was, in essence, a walking magical exclusion zone.

Even more terrifying was the undeniable fact that the Magic of Nothingness she had just deployed was significantly swifter and more potent than when she had dispelled Zhao Yan and Lin Mo’s combined spell yesterday.

Could this ability… still possess room for growth?

The mere thought sent a shiver of dread coursing down Chixiao’s spine.

If she could now instantly nullify the elemental attacks of a Golden-tier magical beast, what would happen if she continued to grow?

It seemed plausible that one day, even the grand spells of a Saint Magister might appear as mere child’s play before her, instantly obliterated.

The very notion of a Saint Magister’s fearsome, meticulously crafted spell — one that demanded immense time to gather and array magical formations — being instantly and utterly erased by this so-called Magic of Nothingness, left Chixiao feeling profoundly unsettled.

Possessing such a formidable ability, it was highly probable that in this year’s academy ranking competition, she would not merely retain her title as the third-year chief, but rather emerge as one of the preeminent powerhouses across the entire institution!

Sensing the abrupt disappearance of its fiery whirlwind, the Phantom Cloud Leopard’s massive body tensed instantly, its fur bristling like steel needles across its entire form.

It threw back its head and unleashed a valley-shaking roar, its fury so palpable it seemed to solidify in the air.

The surrounding trees trembled, and visible ripples shimmered through the atmosphere from the sheer force of the sound waves.

More terrifying still, with that enraged roar, the wind elements within dozens of meters immediately surged into a frenzy.

The once invisible currents condensed into countless azure wind blades, which then tore through the air, meticulously shredding every blade of grass and every branch in their path.

While the raging wind elements obscured everyone’s vision, concealing the beast’s precise location, Su Liyue’s perception remained as clear as moonlight piercing through a dense fog.

Thanks to Ye Xingchen’s Qimen Listening Wind Art, she had already pinpointed the Phantom Cloud Leopard’s exact movements.

Even the slightest tremor in each wisp of airflow constructed a vivid, three-dimensional map of the battlefield within her mind.

At the very heart of that raging tempest, a mass of blood-scented killing intent darted with astonishing speed.

Each soft brush of the Phantom Cloud Leopard’s paw pads against a branch, the trajectory of its sharp claws tearing through the air like tendrils of ink unfurling in clear water, and even the turbulent gusts of wind it exhaled with each breath—all were meticulously rendered within Ye Xingchen’s acute perception.

“It’s coming! Everyone, be careful!” Su Liyue’s sharp cry sliced through the air.

The surrounding air suddenly thrummed with violent tremors as dozens of azure wind spirals materialized simultaneously from every direction.

Initially no thicker than an arm, these spirals swelled in the blink of an eye, transforming into ferocious tornadoes several meters in diameter.

Each swirling vortex was imbued with razor-sharp wind blades, effortlessly drawing up shattered stones and desiccated branches from the ground, grinding them into fine dust.

More unsettling still, these tornadoes moved not in disarray, but in a mysterious, synchronized dance, gradually coalescing into a colossal circular wind array that meticulously encircled the entire group.

As Chixiao observed the terrifying wind-attribute cages steadily forming around them, his pupils constricted sharply.

“That beast,” he muttered, “it’s trying to deploy a full-scale tornado prison, hoping to seal off all our escape routes!”
