Join the ServerLi Yunxin suddenly let out a peculiar, ‘hehehe’ cackle, its demonic quality sending shivers down Su Liyue’s spine and raising goosebumps on her arms.
‘Truly, someone whose name shares the character ‘yun’ with the Cloud Mountain Sect Master is on another level,’ Su Liyue mused, ‘Even their villainous laugh is more professional than my own!’
“A mere official mage, daring to be so brazen in front of *this* young lady?” Li Yunxin challenged, hands on her hips, her chin tilted imperiously high.
Xiao Zhang was utterly baffled by her audacious display.
‘This little girl in front of him,’ he thought, ‘was either a naive fool, fearless as a newborn calf, or she genuinely possessed a formidable backer.’ Regardless, daring to harm his son on the Crimson Feast’s very grounds meant she would not leave unscathed today. He would make her pay.
Xiao Zhang’s fury twisted into a mocking laugh, the jowls on his face quivering uncontrollably.
“Good! Very good!” he roared, his voice laced with menace. “In this Aetherland Empire, no one has ever dared to speak to me, Xiao Zhang, with such insolence! Guards! Come forth!!”
With a violent sweep of his arm, over twenty guards instantly snapped into a battle formation, the tips of their staffs glowing with rapidly condensing magical light.
“Seize this insolent girl for me!”
In that very instant, a barrage of colorful magic missiles shrieked through the air, hurtling towards Li Yunxin. The onlookers, a crowd of startled nobles, shrieked in alarm and scrambled backward.
‘This sight,’ many thought, ‘surely portended death!’
A faint, disdainful curve played on Li Yunxin’s lips. Confronted by the overwhelming volley of magic missiles, she remarkably found the leisure to strike a beautifully elegant starting pose.
“Divine Dragon! Swings Tail!!”
With that crisp shout, she effortlessly raised her delicate hand, and from her palm, a dazzling golden light burst forth. The dozen or so magic missiles, like a hundred rivers converging into the sea, were all drawn in by the golden radiance, coalescing in mid-air into a single, resplendent magical orb.
“Go!”
With a delicate flick of her wrist, the orb, now a fusion of over a dozen magical energies, truly struck out like the swing of a divine dragon’s tail, sweeping across the space with an ear-splitting tear through the air.
The heavy armored swordsmen, who had stood at the forefront, were blasted backward, their shields offering no defense. Their thick, resilient armor twisted and warped under the magical tempest, clattering loudly as they crashed into and felled a significant portion of the remaining guards.
As the smoke and dust finally dispersed, Li Yunxin remained standing, hands clasped behind her back, her skirt gently swaying. She tilted her head, a soft chuckle escaping her lips, as she gazed at the utterly dumbfounded Xiao Zhang. “Is that all you’ve got?” she asked, her tone light and mocking.
Su Liyue, witnessing the spectacle from the sidelines, found herself quite surprised as well.
‘This girl,’ Su Liyue mused, ‘it’s as if she’s brought all the fantastical martial arts effects straight from wuxia films into this world of magic!’ A profound suspicion settled over her: how had this girl cultivated her magic in such an unconventional and bizarre manner? Yet, it was precisely this peculiar strength that explained her serene composure when confronting Xiao Zhang, a tangible confidence in her own power.
The color drained from Xiao Zhang’s corpulent face, and beads of sweat, thick as beans, trickled down his multiple chins.
His eyes, wide with shock, reflected utter disbelief. This mere slip of a girl, barely a teenager, had actually incapacitated his entire twenty-strong guard contingent with a single strike? He knew well that every guard of the Crimson Feast was a formidable, bona fide official mage!
Instinctively, he reached for his bulging belly, a sudden chill tracing its way down his spine.
Though he bore the esteemed title of Elder, his own status as an official mage was primarily a result of his sharp business acumen, not profound magical prowess.
The raw power this young woman exhibited before him utterly transcended any notion he held of a mere academy student.
“Th-this… this is impossible…” Xiao Zhang’s lips quivered, the words barely a whisper.
‘Even the most prodigious academy genius couldn’t possibly contend with twenty foes at once!’ he thought frantically. ‘Unless… unless there’s some reclusive, formidable expert supporting her?’
The hushed whispers of the surrounding crowd felt like a thousand needles pricking Xiao Zhang’s flushed face.
Only then did a chilling realization dawn on him: his earlier threats had been uttered for all to hear. If he were to back down now, his reputation in the Imperial Capital would be utterly ruined.
“You… don’t get too smug!” Xiao Zhang bellowed, his voice filled with a hollow bluster, even as his knees threatened to buckle beneath him.
“Daring to cause trouble at the Crimson Feast, even if you’re the disciple of the Heavenly King himself, you still—”
His words abruptly seized in his throat, for Li Yunxin was now idly tossing a luminous orb in her hand, a faint, almost mocking smile gracing her lips. Its blinding radiance made the jowls on his face quiver uncontrollably.
“Flying Dragon! In the Sky!!”
Li Yunxin flicked her small hand, and the shimmering orb instantly morphed, expanding into a magnificent golden dragon, its fangs bared and claws extended. With a thunderous roar that shook the very ground, it lunged directly at Xiao Zhang! In its wake, the air itself seemed to twist and distort, warped by the sheer force of the dragon-shaped aura.
The surrounding crowd erupted in terrified screams, while Xiao Zhang’s legs turned to jelly from sheer terror. The monstrous dragon’s head was almost upon him; he could distinctly feel the searing magical energy washing over his face!
“Stop!”
In that critical, split-second moment, a profound, resonant shout boomed across the entire hall.
Just then, a formidable, earthy-yellow magic wall erupted from the ground, manifesting precisely in front of Xiao Zhang, barely shielding him.
“Boom—!!!”
Amidst an earth-shattering explosion, the golden colossal dragon and the earthen wall obliterated each other.
However, the ensuing shockwave still tore the magic wall into countless fragments, and the scattered debris, like a burst of buckshot, mercilessly pelted Xiao Zhang.
“Ah! My face!” Xiao Zhang shrieked, clutching his face in agony.
When he tremblingly lowered his hands, his plump face was already crisscrossed with numerous fine streaks of blood. Not a shred of his earlier arrogance remained.
As the last vestiges of smoke and dust finally dissipated, an elderly man, clad in an earthy-yellow magic robe, slowly strode into view. Around the tip of his staff, lingering magical fluctuations still visibly pulsed…
