Three devastating battle qi attacks, tearing through the very air, bore down upon Mu Wanqing’s back, a horrifying confluence of scorching crimson, virulent emerald, and chilling pitch-black.
They wove a deadly net, threatening to devour her whole.
“It’s over…” she whispered, despairingly closing her eyes, her long, slender eyelashes trembling imperceptibly with terror.
Boom!!!
The searing pain she had anticipated never arrived.
Instead, a deafening explosion ripped through the air, followed by a chaotic surge of energy that raged within the cavern, stirring up a maelstrom of dust and raining down shattered stones.
Mu Wanqing staggered under the force of the blast wave, nearly tumbling from Qizai’s back, her heart hammering wildly as if threatening to burst from her chest.
‘She survived?’
In the daze of her narrow escape, she tremblingly opened her eyes. Through the slowly dissipating dust, she vaguely discerned two figures standing tall before her.
Astonishingly, one of the figures was holding the other in a steady princess carry!
Mu Wanqing’s eyes widened. As the dust cleared further, the familiar silhouettes instantly allowed her to recognize the two individuals.
‘Su Liyue?!’
‘…And Ye Xingchen?!’
Both wore peculiar masks, and Ye Xingchen, moreover, still maintained that exaggerated pose of holding a girl in his arms.
Su Liyue, meanwhile, leaned against him with a serene expression, as if this were an entirely commonplace occurrence.
‘What… what kind of scene is this?!’
While hovering on her sword, still holding Mu Wanqing, Qizai tilted her beautiful head, squinting and barely suppressing the amusement in her eyes as she observed her master’s dramatically stylish entrance.
‘Master, oh Master, this ‘princess carry’ entrance of yours… isn’t it a bit too deliberate?’
As the dust finally cleared completely, the scene in mid-air became strikingly distinct.
Two figures stood suspended in the air, their robes fluttering, and upon their faces, they wore bizarre Ultraman masks!
One wore the original Ultraman’s distinct, somewhat ‘melted’ mask, while the other donned the classic style of Ultraman Jack.
The masks’ eyes glowed faintly, appearing strikingly out of place within the dim cavern.
Of course, apart from Qizai, no one present recognized these ‘mysterious symbols’ from another world.
Even more preposterous, the man in the original Ultraman mask was still steadily holding the girl in the Ultraman Jack mask in a princess carry.
Their postures were relaxed, as if the combined attack, potent enough to annihilate a Grand Mage, had been nothing more than a gentle breeze across their faces.
The pupils of the three black-robed figures sharply constricted as they stared fixedly at the two individuals suspended in the air.
The man with the tattooed face tightened his grip on his saber, the sanguine battle qi on its blade still restlessly swirling.
He stared intently at the two uncanny masks, his heart filled with apprehension and doubt.
“Who… who exactly are these two?!”
Though they had long suspected the young girl had reinforcements, the figures’ attire and build clearly indicated they were mere students.
Why, then, would they wear peculiar masks and walk on air? Even more strangely, the man was holding a girl in his arms—was this an open act of defiance?
Upon reflection, the combined battle qi attack from the three of them earlier, which would have gravely injured or even killed even a Grand Mage-level expert, had been effortlessly neutralized by these two. This defied all logic.
The black-robed man’s eyes sharpened.
Most likely, just like that flying sword, they were merely putting on a show, relying on some secret treasure!
The black-robed man with the skull longsword was the first to lose patience, the skull on his sword hilt audibly ‘clicking’ its jaw.
“Where did these rats come from! How dare they meddle with our affairs!”
“Playing tricks!” the leader roared, forcefully suppressing his unease, as his scimitar burst forth with a blinding bloody radiance.
“They’re merely putting on a show with some treasure from who knows where!”
He fixed his gaze on Mu Wanqing, who stood behind the two figures, and suddenly let out a sinister chuckle: “Daring to bring along a burden…”
His entire body erupted with battle qi!
“You tricksters! Die!!”
His arms bulged with muscle, and the blood-bladed scimitar in his hand emitted a grating hum. The dark red ancient runes on the blade lit up one by one, as if steeped in fresh blood.
With a furious roar, he brought his scimitar crashing down!
Swoosh!!!
A blood-red crescent slash, several times larger than the previous ones, ripped through the air.
Wherever it passed, the very air was forcibly split apart by the lingering shockwaves, and even the stalactites on the cavern ceiling showed signs of trembling!
With this single strike, he was confident he could level a small hill!
Just as the blood-red slash was about to engulf the two figures.
“♪~♪~~”
A peculiar melody suddenly echoed through the cavern.
Su Liyue’s magic staff twirled lightly in her hand, its tip erupting with a brilliant azure glow.
The surrounding wind elements seemed to answer a summons, beginning to resonate at a mysterious frequency, and the stirring melody of the original Ultraman’s theme song actually filled the air!
Ye Xingchen, his face still adorned with the original Ultraman mask, subtly lifted his head.
His slender fingers flicked lightly, following the rhythm of the music.
Pop~
With a soft ‘pop,’ the world-destroying blood-red slash vanished into thin air, as if it were nothing more than a burst soap bubble.
A profound silence descended.
The three black-robed figures froze in place, their expressions beneath their masks utterly rigid.
The skull on the hilt of the black-robed man’s skull longsword made a distinct ‘click’.
Its jaw dropped.
