Join the ServerSeeing his attack land successfully, the summoner mage’s face immediately lit up with complacency. He raised his voice to taunt:
“You really think we summoners got in through connections? That we’re all pushovers? Ridiculous! My epic-rank familiar, the Unicorn, is a rare treasure even within the academy. Dealing with the likes of you is a piece of cake!”
“Hmph! Getting cocky after a little advantage? Careful you don’t end up losing your shirt and crying in public!” the fire mage retorted without backing down, his tone dripping with disdain.
Listening to the two of them bicker on stage, Li Yunxin couldn’t help but mutter under her breath:
“These two idiots are fighting, but they’re talking more than we do. Do they think the arena is a marketplace?”
Su Liyue chuckled softly and patted her arm:
“Easy, Yunxin. It’s always like this when secondary characters fight. If they don’t trade a few barbs first to get into the groove, they probably can’t even cast their skills smoothly.”
Li Yunxin pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement: “…I guess that makes sense.”
As the war of words came to a close, this time it was the summoner mage who initiated the attack.
“Unicorn, use Lightning Flash!”
Lightning Flash?! Upon hearing the skill name, Su Liyue and Li Yunxin almost burst out laughing. This guy’s naming sense was bizarre—had he secretly been taking lessons from that famous Pikachu?
Before the words faded, the Unicorn raised its silver horn, instantly surrounded by a dazzling flow of light.
In the blink of an eye, a blinding flash burst forth like an arrow from a bow, shooting straight toward the fire mage’s face.
The fire mage’s pupils contracted. Without hesitation, he wrapped himself in a pale green wind shield, using a Wind Walk spell to slide several feet to the side, narrowly dodging the brilliant beam.
Before he could regain his footing, he swung his wand and barked, “Multi-Fireball!”
Several orange fireballs roared in succession, bypassing the Unicorn to strike the summoner himself.
But the summoner was prepared. He commanded sternly, “Unicorn, defend!” The divine beast immediately shifted its body, its silver mane flowing without wind, and intercepted the fireballs head-on. The explosions detonated before it, yet it remained unscathed.
“This epic-ranked magical beast is truly formidable—its defense can even withstand my Multi-Fireball…” the fire mage murmured, frowning.
“It seems area attacks won’t work. I’ll need a different approach!”
His eyes sharpened, and the arc of his wand changed abruptly.
“Wind magic! Cyclone!” Abandoning his specialty, the fire mage switched to his second element, wind magic, for a Cyclone spell!
Though its damage was far less terrifying and explosive than fire magic, wind was the fastest among the four elements. Against an enemy with a high-defense familiar acting as a shield, wind offered surprising speed to catch them off guard.
As expected, the Cyclone shot toward the summoner at incredible speed. The summoner intended to use the Unicorn for a second defense, but the attack came so fast that he couldn’t fully evade the multiple wind blades. Though his magic robe absorbed some damage, he still sustained minor injuries.
“Tsk, dual wind-fire is indeed troublesome,” he muttered, his eyes darkening. “The swiftness of wind combined with the ferocity of fire… tricky. But…”
Just as he was about to order the Unicorn to strike, the fire mage interrupted him.
“The attack isn’t over! Taste this! Flame Pillar!”
With the fire mage’s roar, his wand had somehow touched the ground.
The ground beneath the summoner mage suddenly glowed with searing red light, the temperature skyrocketing.
His expression shifted dramatically, but he realized the trap a moment too late.
“Shit! I fell for it!”
Several thick pillars of flame erupted from the earth. As the blazing fire soared skyward, the Unicorn reared in fright. The summoner, caught off guard, lost his grip on the reins and tumbled to the ground along with his beast, utterly disheveled.
“Looks like the match is decided,” Li Yunxin remarked, watching the scene. She felt that the fire mage, with his mastery of both wind and fire, had completely taken control.
But Su Liyue shook her head calmly. “I wouldn’t be so sure.”
Drawing from her many years of experience in the cultivation world, she sensed that the summoner still had cards up his sleeve—or perhaps he hadn’t even used his full strength. From start to finish, he had only cast one skill. The Unicorn was an epic-rank familiar; if it were defeated so easily, that would be too pathetic.
“Oh?” Li Yunxin was about to say something when she saw the fallen summoner quickly adjust his posture, pressing a hand to the ground to push himself up, while patting the Unicorn’s neck.
The divine beast understood at once, raising itself and standing steadily.
Though somewhat disheveled, the summoner’s gaze sharpened. “Using wind’s speed to distract me, then striking with fire’s damage—a fine tactic! But my Unicorn isn’t so easy to deal with!”
“What?!” The fire mage, who was charging a powerful spell, was startled. The Unicorn’s body began to emit a strange golden aura, growing brighter and brighter, dazzling him until he could barely keep his eyes open, and his target’s position became blurred.
