“And what if an article comes out saying I’m doing this show? People will call me celebrity-crazy, right?”
He had already caused a fuss just for filming a few commercials.
“At first, maybe. But once this airs, your image will completely change.”
“Seriously, how can you guarantee that?”
“Hey, don’t you know the legend of this show? Everyone who’s been on it blew up.”
In fact, every past cast member of Living Together, Two People is now at the top of their career.
It wasn’t that they were top stars before appearing on the show, but their appearance on it boosted their popularity immensely.
In other words, appearing on Living Together, Two People made them famous.
“The idea is to show people the charm of volleyball player Kang Woo-joo on TV.”
He had made a fuss before about having a ‘sensitive personality image.’
“Even now, there are countless celebrities lined up hoping to appear. And you got the invitation first.”
“Then let them have the opportunity instead.”
“Woo-joo, listen to me this time, okay?”
“No. I’m a volleyball player, not a celebrity.”
He had never appeared on a show before. At most, interviews or commercial shoots.
So how could they expect him to film a variety show?
“The league season is over anyway. It’s just one month of filming. The format is freer than other shows, so you can just live your usual life.”
Woo-joo sighed deeply.
No matter how passionately Ki-cheol argued, he didn’t feel like doing it at all.
“Your fans are disappointed you rarely show up on the team’s channel. Think of this as giving back to them. How happy will they be if you appear on TV?”
“That’s…”
Woo-joo moved his lips.
Honestly, he was grateful to his fans.
They cheered tirelessly for someone who only knew volleyball and ran forward without looking back.
Ki-cheol, seeing that this angle might work, got even more excited.
He told Woo-joo how staff were working overtime to clean up comments, sending all the negative ones as PDFs by email.
“Woo-joo, did you know that?”
“Know what now?”
“Our staff… have been working late every day for several days.”
Woo-joo’s eyebrows twitched.
He added that the staff had gone through a lot dealing with the controversial article.
“Every time you play from now on, these comments will follow you like a tag. Then we’ll have to work late each time, right?”
“…Fine! I get it!”
Woo-joo finally stood up.
“Really? You’re doing it! No backing out? Yejin! Let’s write a contract. Kang Woo-joo agrees!”
Ki-cheol excitedly shouted as he left the conference room.
Woo-joo gritted his teeth and suppressed his frustration.
Ki-cheol already knew exactly what Woo-joo was weak against.
“Okay, quickly stamp here.”
The A4 paper had scribbled the words: I will not back out of my variety show appearance.
It even included a childish clause saying he’d donate all his wealth to society if he backed out.
Woo-joo grumbled as he stamped it with ink.
“Yejin, keep this safe. Oh, and summarize this later and contact the PD!”
“Yes!”
The staff and Ki-cheol seemed ready to dance with excitement.
“But, hyung…”
“Huh? Yes, Woo-joo?”
His address had changed from rude to respectful in a flash.
“Who else is on the show?”
“Huh?”
“There are supposed to be two cast members. Someone else must have been invited besides me.”
“Oh, well…”
The unsettling feeling intensified.
Woo-joo considered whether to tear up the contract on the spot.
“Watch the reruns yourself. Seasons 1 through 3 are online. You’ll understand faster.”
Ki-cheol awkwardly smiled and left, claiming to be busy.
Only after watching the show from home did Woo-joo finally understand Ki-cheol’s plan.
Woo-joo glared at the tablet.
From seasons 1 to 3, all cast members lived in different environments, but one thing was consistent.
They didn’t know who else would be appearing.
And they only found out on the first day of filming.
He wanted to believe it was somewhat scripted, but all the actors’ shocked reactions looked genuinely raw.
That was another charm of the show.
Woo-joo scrolled down and read a few comments.
Understanding the nature of the show, Woo-joo sighed.
He wanted to call Ki-cheol and ask why he hadn’t explained in advance.
But his thumb, pressed hard on the contract stamp, was already red.
Looking back at the screen, the episode was nearly over.
Autoplay started, but a commercial played first.
It was a famous luxury perfume ad he vaguely recognized.
Seeing the model hold the perfume against a flashy background, his eyes wavered.
People’s faces can change with age, but not his.
At most, he’d matured slightly since before.
“Unlucky bastard.”
Woo-joo tossed the tablet onto the sofa.
The screen still showed advertisements featuring Won Ji-tae.
After that, everything progressed smoothly.
Woo-joo informed his team, coaches, and related parties about the show and asked for understanding.
Thankfully, everyone accepted it and even supported him.
He then had a meal with the main PD and the production team of Living Together, Two People.
Until that moment, Woo-joo imagined happily that perhaps the other cast member might also attend.
He wondered if it was staged to meet the other member beforehand, but it wasn’t.
Only the production staff were present.
The main PD’s name was Kwon Seon-hyuk.
Previously without notable works, he became a star PD with this program.
He was modest, easygoing, and hearty in personality.
“Actually, you don’t need to worry much about filming. Observation is the main focus, and it’s not a comedy show. Just show your usual self.”
“Yes.”
Was that really easy?
Especially in a space with someone he wasn’t close to.
The dinner-meeting went smoothly, and filming was scheduled for next week.
Before filming, there were pre-interviews, schedule meetings, and packing.
After all, he had to live in a new residence for a month.
The staff prepared almost everything, so he only needed to bring clothes and personal items.
He packed his large suitcase, and the first day of filming arrived.
[Address: Gyeonggi-do, 00 Street, No. 175]
As the comments had said, the message from the production team that day was just the address.
Woo-joo sighed and drove to the location.
Ki-cheol offered a manager-staff to accompany him, but he declined.
The estimated travel time was about an hour.
As he drove, the scenery gradually changed.
Skyscrapers and crowded streets slowly gave way to greenery.
Rows of trees appeared, and following the river, Woo-joo unconsciously rolled down the window.
He couldn’t remember the last time he had been somewhere so peaceful.
After studying Living Together, Two People for the past few days, he noticed that each residence had its own unique character.
