Chapter 38: The Words Left Unsaid

“Ah, just let me stay like this for a bit.”

Woo-joo mumbled while squirming on top of his lap.

Strength began gathering in Ji-tae’s thigh.

This position was extremely dangerous.

Ji-tae suddenly recalled what had happened earlier.

The incident in the elevator.

He had been trying so hard to create some distance from Kang Woo-joo, yet Woo-joo, whether he knew it or not, had suddenly pulled him closer by the back.

Up to that point, it had been manageable.

Yes, that much he could endure.

If only Woo-joo hadn’t suddenly leaned his face in close and smiled, he wouldn’t have had to rush to the restroom to calm down the half-risen evidence of his reaction.

And that had already been the second time.

That something so minor Woo-joo did had made him react like that.

Because of it, Ji-tae had lately felt as if he had gone back to being a teenage boy in the middle of puberty.

“Kang Woo-joo, get up for a second…”

Did this guy seriously not think about the other person at all.

Why did he constantly do things that made it difficult for others.

Whatever the case, one thing was certain.

If he left things like this, it was dangerous.

There wasn’t even a restroom nearby.

If the same disaster as before happened again.

And if Kang Woo-joo noticed it…

“No.”

He might be treated like a perverted piece of trash.

Ji-tae clenched the drink tightly in his hand and abruptly stood up.

“Ah.”

Because of that, Woo-joo’s head, which had been resting on his thigh, dropped straight onto the bench with a thud.

Ji-tae quickly turned his body.

Even if it was an action he had taken to survive, the loud sound made him uneasy.

Woo-joo slowly lifted himself up and rubbed his forehead before raising his head.

“Hey. You.”

His expression was quite different from before.

He looked angry, or perhaps very dissatisfied.

“I’ve been wondering something for a while.”

“What?”

Ji-tae cautiously sat back down beside him.

Even now, he found it cute how Woo-joo’s pronunciation slurred slightly when he was drunk.

“Why do you always overreact whenever I touch you?”

Ji-tae’s eyes widened at the unexpected question.

Alcohol sometimes made people honest.

There was a reason people called it drunken truth.

As if proving that point, Woo-joo was now blurting out things he would normally never say.

All because of the alcohol.

“When did I ever do that.”

The first response was denial.

In truth, Ji-tae hadn’t realized Woo-joo had noticed.

Whenever Woo-joo suddenly reached out, his heart would pound like crazy, and fearing that everything might be exposed, Ji-tae had unconsciously reacted harshly.

He knew his heart and actions didn’t align.

But even knowing that didn’t change anything.

“When did you ever? Don’t spout nonsense.”

So when he was drunk, his mouth became a bit rough.

Ji-tae stored this new information about Woo-joo in his mind.

“Whenever I barely touch you, you tell me not to. And earlier during filming, do you know how you looked? When they told us to get closer, you sighed. Were you that uncomfortable? Being close to me?”

“N-no, it’s not like that.”

Ji-tae answered quickly in shock.

He heard that sigh too?

But that sigh had only been because filming with Woo-joo made him nervous.

Knowing that Kang Woo-joo’s handsome face was right beside him, that their bodies were touching, made his head feel like it would explode.

He had sighed just to steady himself.

He had no idea Woo-joo had misunderstood it like that.

“Then why?”

Woo-joo rubbed his tired eyes.

“I get sensitive when I film.”

After thinking for a moment, Ji-tae chose the most plausible excuse.

Clearing up Woo-joo’s misunderstanding was the priority.

“It wasn’t that I hated being close to you. I was just tired today. I got sensitive without realizing it. Kang Woo-joo, it’s absolutely not what you think, so don’t misunderstand.”

Ji-tae rambled on as if trying to win back a lover who had broken up with him.

Woo-joo blinked slowly, quietly listening.

“Is that really true?”

Ji-tae shook his head vigorously.

So much that his unstyled bangs fluttered.

“…Did that make me feel bad?”

“Rather than feeling bad…”

Woo-joo paused.

“Maybe I felt a little hurt.”

Ji-tae slowly lifted his head and looked at him.

Woo-joo had closed his eyes comfortably, enjoying the night breeze.

His face looked more relaxed than before.

His bangs fluttered cutely in the wind.

Hurt?

Not angry, not upset, but hurt.

Ji-tae lightly bit his lip.

“Why were you hurt…”

He had just begun to speak after a short pause.

Suddenly, he felt something against his shoulder.

Startled, he turned his head.

Woo-joo had leaned his head against him with his eyes closed.

“Kang Woo-joo?”

There was no reply.

Only the soft sound of shallow breathing reached his ears.

He had fallen asleep on his own before even answering.

“…That’s unfair.”

Ji-tae curved his lips bitterly but tensed his shoulder so Woo-joo wouldn’t wake.

The spot where their hair touched felt especially warm.

Just then, Ji-tae’s phone buzzed briefly.

Carefully checking it, he saw a message from Seon-hyeok saying they would soon be wrapping up and telling him to come back.

“……”

Ji-tae didn’t reply.

He turned off the screen and focused on memorizing Woo-joo’s sleeping face.

The night breeze was cool.

Even the sky he always saw looked particularly beautiful tonight.

I wish time would just stop like this.

Ji-tae murmured inwardly.

– I asked them to shoot one but didn’t expect it to be this perfect;;

└ Same. I thought they’d just stick the two together and take a few shots, but what is this? It’s pretty full-scale?

└└ Exactly… I can only say they’re crazy

– Who said PD Kwon had no sense? Who on earth thought of swapping their outfits and making them wear them together? I’ve got chills

└ PD Kwon isn’t into that kind of thing so maybe the writers suggested it

└└ Who cares, our eyes are happy and that’s what matters

– Their faces are insane, both of them. And this is just for a variety show poster? Not a magazine photoshoot?

└ I want to see the final version quickly… You can tell they went all out, I’m so excited

– I’m jealousㅠㅠ If they were going to do this, they should’ve done it for previous seasons too… That’s unfair, production team

└ I knew people would start talking about favoritism

└└ What can you do? This season has the best response ever, they’ve got to strike while the iron’s hot

└ Screenshot taken

└└ No chance you’ll have to dance. Those elementary schoolers definitely fought

– Ahㅠㅠ When does it air, waiting is so hard

└ Isn’t the first broadcast soon?

└└ Something big is really coming

Woo-joo had made a resolution last time.

After drinking wine with Won Ji-tae, he decided he would restrain himself with alcohol from now on.

After all, they were currently filming a show, and even if the atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, he thought he should maintain at least some caution.

Yes.

So he had boldly conditioned himself with, “If I drink during filming again, I’m a dog!”

But who would have thought that determination would collapse all at once like this.

“Ah… my head hurts…”

Woo-joo irritably clutched his head.

They had successfully finished the poster shoot yesterday and then had a company dinner.

He had overdone it a little to build camaraderie with the staff.

Just when he thought it was getting really dangerous because he was caught by Director Kim, Won Ji-tae had shown up.
