Chapter 114: What We Are Becoming

“Hm?”

“Do it. Video calls.”

Right after those words, the cheerful beep of the door lock echoed as it shut.

Jitae stood there blankly in front of Wooju’s door for a while.

“Ah… I really don’t want to work.”

In the end, he let out a deep sigh and pressed the elevator button.

Recently, he had asked for as much work as possible to forget about Wooju—

But he never expected it to backfire like this.

Cursing his past self, Jitae stepped into the elevator.

“Oh— it’s Won Jitae.”

At Choi Seokhyun’s sudden remark in the locker room, Wooju’s eyes widened instantly.

He stopped changing and rushed over.

“W-where? Jitae’s here?”

His voice came out rushed, even stuttering.

Not just Seokhyun, but the other teammates nearby stared at him strangely.

“No, I mean there’s an article.”

Seokhyun turned his phone around and showed it to Wooju.

On the cracked screen was an online news article.

“Hey, don’t say things like that out of nowhere—”

For a moment, Wooju had really thought Jitae had come here.

Even though that made no sense.

Embarrassed, he scolded Seokhyun while snatching the phone.

“Wouldn’t it be weirder if that actor actually came here?”

Despite the reasonable point, Wooju was already scrolling.

The article was about Jitae’s next project.

He had been cast as the male lead in a new work by a famous writer.

Wooju scrolled further down to check the comments.

  • Wow, Kim Sunyoung’s new work is coming out
  • The story sounds insane… and Jitae as the male lead? That’s a must-watch
  • His photos look insanely good
  • Apparently the writer really wanted him. Jitae’s really made it

└ He was already doing well

└└ He’s basically the top actor among his peers right now

  • After Living Together as Two, he just hit the peak of his career
  • It’s great he’s working a lot, but isn’t this too much? His schedule is crazy—please let him restㅠㅠ

└ Gotta strike while the iron’s hot

Thankfully, there weren’t any negative reactions.

But one comment caught his attention.

His schedule is crazy.

Now that he thought about it, Jitae had left early morning for a shoot just the other day.

He also mentioned appearing as a guest on some variety show.

The guy already didn’t eat properly—what if he overworked himself and collapsed again?

Wooju sighed deeply, worry written all over his face.

Seokhyun took his phone back.

“You’ve been sensitive for days, but I guess you’re fine now? The moment I mention that actor, you rush over like a hornet.”

“That’s because you said it in a confusing way.”

“Did things work out?”

Seokhyun asked casually, tapping his phone.

His tone sounded indifferent, but Wooju knew—

That was just how he showed concern.

“Hey, you got time?”

Instead of answering, Wooju suddenly asked about his schedule.

“Yeah, I’m free today.”

“Then let’s grab dinner. My treat.”

They used to hang out often, but between controversies and filming schedules, it had been a while since they ate together.

Recently, Wooju had been busy with Living Together as Two, ads, and training.

But now that things had settled—especially with Jitae—

He finally felt lighter.

“Deal.”

And honestly, if he went home, he’d just sit there alone anyway.

It had been about two days since that conversation with Jitae.

He was surprised to hear the shoot would last at least three days.

At first, he thought—

Three days will pass quickly.

But it didn’t.

Not at all.

He’d check the time thinking an hour had passed—

Only ten minutes would have gone by.

He was fine when he was training or around others.

But when he was alone—

That was the problem.

“Let’s go to that gukbap place. It reopened.”

Still, he just had to get through today.

Jitae would be back tomorrow.

And every time he caught himself thinking that—

It startled him.

More than half his day was spent thinking about Jitae.

The other half?

Thinking about how slow time was passing.

“Ma’am, two pork soup and one bottle of soju!”

“Hey, why are you ordering alcohol?”

Even in the short walk into the restaurant, Wooju had been thinking about Jitae—

So he couldn’t stop Seokhyun in time.

“Gukbap goes with soju. Just one drink.”

Maybe it was because tomorrow was the weekend.

Wooju didn’t stop him further.

Soon, steaming hot gukbap was placed on the table.

Wooju stirred the soup absentmindedly and checked his phone.

As soon as he unlocked it, his chat with Jitae appeared.

[On my way to the shoot. Sleep well.]

That was from the day he left.

[Are you eating well? What are you doing today?]

That was from the next afternoon.

[I’m so tired from filmingㅠㅠ]

[The air here is nice. There are so many stars]

[(Photo)]

[Pretty, right?]

Jitae had been sending messages whenever he had time.

Even though he was busy filming.

And honestly—

Just reading them made Wooju smile.

It was kind of cute, how excited Jitae was just because he said texting was okay.

And last night—

He had even video called.

Whispering that he was secretly calling from the bathroom.

The moment Wooju saw his face—

All his fatigue disappeared instantly.

The last message was from this morning.

It’s really cloudy today—

With an emoji.

Wooju had replied that it was sunny in Seoul.

But it hadn’t even been read yet.

He thought about calling—

But didn’t want to interrupt filming.

“Hey, your soup’s getting cold.”

Seokhyun’s voice snapped him out of it.

“Oh, right.”

Wooju put his phone away and finally started eating.

Seokhyun narrowed his eyes knowingly.

They ate in silence at first.

The gukbap was as good as ever.

And before they knew it—

One bottle of soju turned into two.

“Why do people even drink this bitter stuff?”

Wooju glared at the soju, his ears slightly red.

Seokhyun laughed.

“You’re not fully an adult yet.”

“Hey, Kang Wooju.”

“What.”

“Are you dating?”

Pfft—

Wooju spat out his water.

Why did this keep happening lately?

He wiped the table automatically.

“W-what are you talking about?”

“I’ve been thinking.”

Seokhyun, now tipsy, spoke more freely.

“You’ve been super sensitive lately. But it felt… different.”

“I’ve always been sensitive during training.”

“Nope. This was different. Trust me—I suffer the most from your moods.”

He downed his drink.

“Honestly, it looked exactly like this.”

“Like what?”

“My sister after fighting with her boyfriend!”

Seokhyun had an older sister—

And apparently, she had quite the temper.

Wooju silently ate his soup.

The empty bowl clinked softly.

“But seriously, you’ve been weird. Smiling like a crazy person at your phone one moment, looking down the next. It’s obvious.”

Seokhyun was right.

Wooju did smile at Jitae’s messages.

And earlier—

He had felt disappointed when there was no reply.

He just never thought it looked that obvious.
