The failure of Heisenberg’s report was like a splash of cold water into a pot of boiling oil.

After a brief moment of silence, the entire academic community of the royal capital erupted into chaos.

In the canteen of the National Magic Academy, lunchtime had long since transformed into a battlefield.

“I still can’t accept it! How can a physical quantity be a matrix? This is pure nonsense!” a third-year student majoring in the Elemental School slammed his dinner knife into the mashed potatoes on his plate, creating a dull thud.

Opposite him, a classmate specializing in mathematics retorted, “But the calculation results perfectly match the experimental data, down to the last detail! Doesn’t that prove something? Truth is sometimes counter-intuitive!”

“What truth? It’s a fallacious theory that doesn’t even satisfy the commutative law of multiplication!

According to his theory, if I measure an electron’s position first and then its momentum, and then I reverse the order—measuring momentum first and then position—the results are actually different? Has the world gone mad?”

“Maybe… maybe it’s our act of measurement itself that interferes with the microscopic particles?”

“Stop guessing! Physics needs certainty, not this kind of ambiguous speculation!”

The argument grew increasingly heated until finally, due to their conflicting ideologies, the two did not hesitate to use Transmutation magic on each other’s plates, turning them into squirming worms and causing a minor commotion in the canteen.

This disturbance was merely a microcosm of the confusion spreading throughout the capital.

Masters Albin and Lorentz seized the momentum, co-authoring an even more scathing article in “The Truth” titled “Saving Physics from the Tyranny of Mathematics.”

The article condemned Heisenberg’s matrix mechanics as a “lazy act of abandoning thought,” calling it an academic scam that “uses complex calculations to mask the absence of physical imagery.”

They called upon all “sane mages” to unite and resist the erosion of sacred physics by this “grotesque mathematics.”

The article received overwhelming support.

Countless mages wrote to the Royal Academy of Sciences and “The Journal of Magical Theory,” demanding that Heisenberg’s paper be retracted and that a formal apology be issued to all readers.

The current Editor-in-Chief of “The Journal of Magical Theory,” a Sixth-Circle mage known for his rigor, felt he was under unprecedented pressure.

He locked himself in his office, repeatedly comparing the calculations in Heisenberg’s paper with Balmer’s experimental data, worrying so much he felt he might lose his hair.

On one hand was the fury of the entire academic world; on the other was the indisputable review opinion of the Ninth-Circle Archmage Horace and the calculation results that fit the experiments perfectly.

He felt as though he were sitting on a magical powder keg that could explode at any second.

Another figure at the center of the storm, Archmage Horace, appeared unusually calm.

He remained at his Eisenberg estate, turning a deaf ear to the clamor of the outside world and simply having his butler turn away all visitors.

However, his silence was a stance in itself, which deterred Albin and the others from aiming their spears directly at the Ninth-Circle Archmage.

They could only pour all their fire upon that poor young man.

Heisenberg began to be isolated.

Walking on the academy grounds, he could always feel the strange looks cast his way, and hear the whispered murmurs and blatant mockery behind his back.

He was banned from entering certain professors’ laboratories, and even his former mentor publicly stated that he felt ashamed to have taught such a student.

The young man hid in his small dormitory, looking out the window with eyes full of confusion and pain.

He couldn’t understand; he had clearly found the key to the mystery of atomic spectra, so why did the world treat him like a madman?

Was it truly wrong to describe the world with mathematics?

Just as the old war between the Particle and Wave Schools had yet to subside, and the new storm triggered by matrix mechanics was intensifying—while the academic atmosphere of the entire city was tense enough to ignite at a touch—a piece of news arrived without warning.

On the bulletin board of the Royal Academy of Sciences, a notice personally signed by the Dean, Master Laplace, was posted.

It contained only a few lines of concise text.

“The Ignatz Royal Academy of Sciences, per the decision of the Joint Committee of the Faculty of Magic, hereby officially strips Heisenberg of his current student status.”

“From this point forward, Heisenberg will [come under the tutelage of Professor Lia Farrien].”

“Professor Lia Farrien will hold a public lecture three days from now in the Grand Auditorium of the Royal Academy of Sciences.”

“The subject of the lecture: ‘On the Wave Interpretation of Heisenberg’s Matrices’.”

The moment the news broke, the entire Academy Square fell into a deathly silence.

Everyone who saw the announcement froze on the spot, as if a Mass Petrification spell had been cast upon them.

They widened their eyes, reading the brief text repeatedly to ensure they hadn’t misread it.

Lia Farrien.

In the capital, this name itself represented miracles.

From electromagnetic theory to quantum statistics, every time she stepped forward, she fundamentally reshaped the mages’ perception of the world.

And the subject of this lecture struck precisely at the heart of the storm.

“On the Wave Interpretation of Heisenberg’s Matrices.”

A wave interpretation?

This term brought a sense of confusion and novelty to everyone.

Could Heisenberg’s cold, abstract matrices—composed entirely of numbers—actually be connected to the relatively intuitive “wave”?

How was that possible?

After the brief silence, the crowd erupted into a discussion more violent than any previous debate.

“A wave interpretation? Did I hear that right? Professor Lia is going to explain matrix mechanics using wave theory?”

“What… what kind of logic is this? Pressing two completely opposite things together?”

“Has Professor Lia found a connection that none of us saw? Is she going to provide a physical image for Heisenberg’s theory?”

This speculation rekindled hope in the eyes of many mages who were suffering because they couldn’t understand matrices.

They might not understand matrices, but they understood waves!

The shadow of the double-slit interference experiment still loomed over everyone’s hearts.

The news spread to every corner of the kingdom with startling speed.

In the editorial office of “The Truth,” Masters Albin and Lorentz had just received a copy of the announcement, and both of their faces turned quite grim.

“A wave interpretation? It’s pure nonsense!” Albin slammed the paper onto the table. “What is she trying to do? Use one heresy to explain another? A girl not even twenty years old—who does she think she is?”

Master Lorentz’s expression, however, was much more solemn.

He didn’t speak, but simply stared at the name “Lia Farrien.”

Others might dismiss Lia’s age, but he could not forget that it was this girl who had caused the entire direct current system to collapse with a single paper.

“We cannot afford to be careless,” Lorentz said in a low voice after a long pause. “Go find out exactly what she intends to speak about.”

***

In that dim dormitory at the National Magic Academy, a friend of Heisenberg’s burst in, excitedly relaying the news to him.

“Heisenberg! Have you heard! Professor Lia! Professor Lia Farrien is going to clear your name!”

Heisenberg slowly raised his head, a glimmer of disbelief flashing in his bloodshot eyes.

He took the newspaper extra his friend handed him, and when he saw that title, his tense body instantly relaxed.

She understood.

While everyone else viewed his theory as a monster, Professor Lia—who had inspired him—not only understood it but was going to clear the name of this “monster.”

***

At the top of the mage tower, Klein looked at the surging crowd outside and said to Lia beside him, “You’ve drawn everyone’s gaze.”

“I just want to give them a new set of grammar,” Lia replied calmly.

“That way, they will be able to read the poem about the universe that Heisenberg has written.”
