Chapter 121: Space Banishment

Lia’s gaze shifted between Klein and the corpse that had been precisely hollowed out.

She looked at Klein.

“It seems your three gold coins won’t be so easy to earn after all.”

Klein withdrew his gaze from the corpse and let it fall on Lia, his tone flat.

“It’s fine.”

“The price remains the same.”

Having said that, he turned and walked toward the exit of the warehouse.

Lia followed behind him; the two of them, one after the other, crossed the empty warehouse and headed toward the blasted doorway.

The moment Klein’s foot was about to step out of the warehouse wreckage, the light at the entrance suddenly distorted.

A black sphere the size of a fist coalesced out of thin air.

Twisted purple electric arcs crackled wildly across its surface.

It spun silently, devouring all surrounding light and forming a ring of pure, absolute darkness.

In the next instant, the sphere exploded.

There was no loud bang, only a low, tooth-grating hiss.

A torrent of violet-black energy surged forth, instantly swallowing the entire warehouse entrance and completely submerging the silhouettes of Klein and Lia.

The remaining walls of the warehouse, the stone slabs on the ground, and the surrounding mountains of garbage were corroded and decomposed the moment they touched that energy, turning into fundamental particles and vanishing without a trace.

A massive hemispherical cavity with smooth edges appeared where the warehouse had once stood.

Dust and smoke filled the air.

A figure clad in gray mage robes emerged from the shadows behind a distant mountain of garbage.

He looked at the destruction he had caused, a sickly expression of satisfaction appearing on his face.

“The Corrosive Disintegration Sphere—death to anyone below the Eighth Circle who touches it. You two fools, why did you have to disturb our great research?”

He muttered to himself as he stepped toward the ruins.

As he drew closer, his footsteps halted.

Amidst the thick smoke, a tall silhouette stood quietly at the edge of the cavity, completely unharmed.

It was Klein.

Before him, a transparent shield slowly dissipated into the air.

He hadn’t even changed his posture, still maintaining the stance of someone about to step away, looking at the gray-robed mage with a calm expression.

The smug expression on the gray-robed mage’s face froze.

His pupils suddenly contracted to the size of needlepoints.

“Impossible… that shield… what rank of magical item is it?”

He stared fixedly at Klein, his eyes filled with shock and greed.

Then, as if he had figured something out, he forcibly suppressed the terror on his face, replacing it with a sinister sneer.

“A defensive artifact capable of blocking the ‘Corrosive Disintegration Sphere’ must be a one-time consumable, or it requires a massive amount of mana from the wielder. Even if you aren’t dead after taking that hit head-on, you’re definitely not feeling well. You’re only standing there to feign composure!”

Klein did not speak; he only watched him coldly with those icy-blue eyes.

This attitude of total disregard infuriated the gray-robed mage.

“Why aren’t you speaking?” He laughed maliciously. “Are you mourning for your little lover?”

He gestured with his chin toward where Lia had been standing, which was now nothing but a void.

“Not even a fragment of bone remains; how pathetic. Aren’t you going to collect her remains? Oh, I forgot, she doesn’t have any remains left.”

While the gray-robed mage provoked Klein with words, one of his hands was quietly hidden in his sleeve, where a cluster of even deeper black energy began to coalesce in his palm.

He intended to deliver a fatal blow the moment the opponent’s mind wavered.

“Go join her in hell!”

He growled, about to hurl the spell in his hand.

Suddenly, the cluster of black energy in his palm flickered violently before being extinguished completely, like a candle in the wind.

The spell was interrupted!

A backlash originating from the depths of his mana caused a pang of tightness in his chest.

“What happened?”

The gray-robed mage stared at his palm in shock, unable to understand why his casting had suddenly failed.

He snapped his head up to look at Klein, thinking the opponent had sabotaged him.

But Klein remained standing on the same spot, though he had changed his posture to crossing his arms over his chest.

Just then, a voice rang out behind him, so calm it held not a single ripple.

“Are you looking for me?”

The gray-robed mage’s blood ran cold instantly.

Every muscle in his body stiffened from ultimate terror.

He turned around inch by inch.

He saw that the smoke and dust from the explosion were slowly dissipating.

Lia stood there perfectly intact, without even a speck of dust on her clothes.

On her neck, a silver pendant of ancient design was emitting a soft glow.

The light flowed and eventually retracted slowly, returning to its state as a simple, unadorned silver ornament.

“Impossible!”

The gray-robed mage’s voice warped into a scream.

“My Corrosive Disintegration Sphere—that was an Eighth-Circle spell! Even an Eighth-Circle mage specializing in defense couldn’t possibly remain unscathed! You… a mere Third-Circle insect, how could you possibly still be alive!”

Lia did not answer his question; she only raised her eyes and looked at him.

“A follower of Weber?”

The gray-robed mage’s screaming stopped abruptly; he looked at Lia, his eyes full of suspicion and wariness.

“Who are you?”

Lia ignored his question and turned to look at Klein.

“See, the problem seems to be solved.”

Klein shifted his gaze from the pendant on Lia’s neck to the dazed gray-robed mage.

“Mm.”

He gave a response and then took a step forward.

The gray-robed mage’s body shook violently; he felt the surrounding air become viscous, an invisible pressure squeezing in from all directions, making even breathing difficult.

The opponent had not exhausted his mana as he had imagined at all.

Panic swallowed his sanity in an instant.

He turned and ran.

He poured all his mana into his legs, his body turning into a gray blur as he fled toward the complex alleys deep within the slums.

Klein was in no hurry to chase him.

He raised his hand and snapped his fingers at the rapidly retreating back.

Snap.

A crisp sound rang out.

The gray-robed mage, who was sprinting for his life, suddenly stalled in mid-air.

In the next second, his body began to turn transparent from the inside out.

Skin, muscle, and bone all transformed into countless tiny blue specks of light in an instant, then completely dissipated into the air.

A gust of wind blew past, and the gray-robed mage vanished entirely, leaving behind only a single shimmering blue speck of light that hovered in the air for a moment before flying into Klein’s raised hand.

Klein closed his hand over the speck of light, and it dimmed instantly.

Lia watched this scene, looking at the spot where the gray-robed mage—who hadn’t even had time to scream—had disappeared, and remained silent for a moment.

She turned her head and looked at Klein.

“Do you use the Annihilation Ray as well?”

“No.”

Klein lowered his hand, his tone calm.

“This is Space Banishment.”

“I threw him into a sub-spatial fold that has no air and no matter whatsoever.”

Lia’s eye twitched.

“Teach me.”

“We’ll talk about that when you reach the Sixth Circle.”

Klein withdrew his hand and started walking.

“Let’s go. I found something interesting from his spiritual core.”

Lia nodded and followed him.

The two left the messy ruins side by side, heading in the direction of the Farrien estate.
