Join the ServerWhen Adèle returned to her room and saw the familiar thesis on her desk, her heart skipped a beat.
She held her breath and lightened her steps as she moved toward it, one step at a time.
The parchment, which held all her painstaking effort, lay quietly on the table.
She carefully opened it, her eyes immediately falling to the last page.
Beneath Klein’s flamboyant signature, a concise and powerful word was deeply branded onto the paper in ink.
“Pass.”
The air was still for three seconds.
“Ah—!”
A suppressed scream shattered the tranquility of the mage tower.
Adèle jumped up and down on the spot, clutching the thesis, and rushed out of her room in a frenzy of joy.
She thundered down the hallway toward Lia’s study.
Lia was in the middle of studying a report on high-energy particle collision data when her door was violently thrown open.
Before she could even look up, a warm, fragrant body rushed over and wrapped her, chair and all, in a tight embrace.
“Lia! I’m graduating! I’m really graduating!”
Adèle’s voice was tinged with tears, yet it was filled with irrepressible excitement. She buried her face in the crook of Lia’s neck, rubbing it vigorously.
Lia was squeezed so tightly she could barely breathe, and the report in her hands fell to the floor.
“Cough, cough… Senior, calm down, calm down a little! I know!” she managed to say, patting Adèle’s back with difficulty.
After a good while, Adèle finally let her go but kept a firm grip on her shoulders, her beautiful eyes shimmering with crystalline tears.
“I did it! Teacher Klein… he acknowledged me!” she exclaimed incoherently, waving the thesis in her hand. “Look! ‘Pass’! He wrote ‘Pass’!”
Lia smiled, picked up the report from the floor, and looked at her senior, who was so excited she looked ready to jump for joy. A warmth spread through her heart.
Seeing Adèle’s bright and spirited demeanor, Lia’s own mood soared.
“Congratulations, Adèle. You deserve it.”
“No! This is all thanks to you!” Adèle shook her head forcefully. “Without you, I’d still be wrestling with that pile of scrap metal! You showed me a whole new world!”
She suddenly stopped, took a deep breath, as if she had made a momentous decision.
“Lia, I’ve decided!”
“Hm?”
“I’m going to open an alchemy workshop in the capital! I’m going to use this alloy I discovered to create the best alchemical products on the entire continent!”
A fire called ‘dream’ burned in Adèle’s eyes.
“I plan to call it Starmetal. What do you think of that name, Lia?”
“Starmetal?” Lia raised an eyebrow.
“Of course! It’s as beautiful as moonlight and as hard as the stars! The name couldn’t be more fitting!” Adèle declared proudly, hands on her hips. “I’ve even thought of a name for my workshop. It’ll be called the Starmetal Workshop!”
Lia couldn’t help but tease, “Although it’s a bit cliché, it does sound like it would sell well.”
“I’ll rent a huge storefront on the Golden Avenue in the capital, right across from those old fogeys’ workshops! I’ll show them what real alchemy is!”
The more Adèle spoke, the more excited she became, pacing back and forth in the room as she planned her business empire.
“I’ll produce armor with magic resistance, and lighter, stronger frames for mana-conductive vehicles! Oh, and for that AC induction motor you designed, if we use Starmetal for the casing, its protective capabilities will definitely go up a level!”
Seeing Adèle’s radiant expression, Lia felt genuinely happy for her.
This was the real Adèle, a vibrant and talented alchemical mage, not the haggard apprentice tormented by her graduation thesis.
“No, I can’t wait!” Adèle suddenly stopped pacing. “I’m going to the capital to look for a shop right now! And raw material suppliers, I wonder what the prices of tin and iron are lately…”
She rushed out of the study like a whirlwind.
A few minutes later, Adèle reappeared with a simple knapsack on her back.
She walked up to Lia and gave her a solemn hug.
“Lia, thank you. Really.” This time, her voice was full of sincere gratitude. “When my workshop opens, you’ll be a lifetime honorary shareholder!”
After speaking, she glanced towards the top of the tower and whispered, “Be careful while I’m gone for the next few days. Don’t let Teacher Klein bully you.”
Lia chuckled. “Don’t worry.”
Only then did Adèle nod, turn, and walk quickly toward the teleportation array inside the tower. With a ripple of spatial energy, her figure vanished.
The mage tower instantly fell silent.
The sudden quiet felt a little strange to Lia.
She returned to her study and looked at the empty chair, only then realizing that without her chattering senior sharing gossip and snacks, the entire mage tower felt much more spacious.
However, this tranquility didn’t last long. Lia’s good mood washed away the slight sorrow of parting.
Humming a tuneless melody, she took out a piece of mousse cake packed from Lady Eleonora’s banquet from her spatial ring and leisurely enjoyed a rare afternoon tea.
As Lia ate her cake, she mulled over whether she should find some time to pick up her baking skills from her past life.
The day passed quietly and pleasantly.
At dinner, only Lia and Klein were in the dining room.
They sat at opposite ends of the table, the only sound being the soft clinking of cutlery against plates.
Without Adèle in the middle to liven up the atmosphere and recount the various interesting events of the capital, the meal was exceptionally quiet.
Lia didn’t find it awkward. She was in a good mood and had a good appetite, focusing intently on the roasted lamb chops on her plate.
Klein, as usual, was silent.
After dinner, Lia wiped her mouth with a napkin and was about to get up and return to her room.
“Lia Farrien.”
A flat, emotionless voice sounded behind her.
Lia’s movements paused. Klein rarely called her by her full name, unless it was a very formal occasion or… he was very displeased.
She turned around and saw that Klein was standing not far away.
Lia’s heart skipped a beat.
Her good mood from the entire day instantly vanished.
Was it because of Adèle’s thesis? Had he discovered her “cheating”?
Countless thoughts flashed through Lia’s mind, and she had already drafted several versions of an explanation.
However, Klein did not give her a chance to speak.
“Come to my room.”
After saying that, he turned and walked straight towards the upper levels of the tower.
He didn’t even glance back to see if Lia was following, as if he was certain she would come.
Lia stood rooted to the spot, feeling as though the air in the dining room had become thin.
She watched Klein’s back disappear around the bend of the staircase and silently swallowed.
This posture, no matter how she looked at it, did not seem like he was about to praise her for her excellent teaching skills.
