Chapter 42: The Student Union Office

The Student Union office was located on the third floor of the administrative building. Pushing open the door revealed a spacious, bright room.

Several desks were arranged neatly but with a casual order. File cabinets lined the walls, filled with documents. On the windowsill sat a few pots of green plants.

At the desk nearest the door, a girl was bent over, organizing files. Her long hair draped over her shoulders, and her profile was soft.

Hearing the door, she looked up. Her gaze first landed on Su Muxue, then shifted to Luo Xiaoyun, whom Su Muxue was holding by the hand. A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes.

“Muxue, you’re here.” She stood up, her voice gentle.

“Wanwan, thank you for your hard work.” Su Muxue released Luo Xiaoyun’s hand and walked naturally toward the desk.

“Let me introduce you—this is Luo Xiaoyun, the one I mentioned. Xiaoyun, this is Lin Wan, the Vice President of the Student Union, and a good friend of mine.”

Luo Xiaoyun nodded nervously. “Hello, Senior Lin.”

“Hello.” Lin Wan smiled faintly, but her eyes lingered on Luo Xiaoyun’s face, as if scrutinizing something. A momentary bewilderment flashed in her gaze, and her brows knitted slightly, like she had seen something puzzling.

Feeling tense under Lin Wan’s gaze, Luo Xiaoyun instinctively looked down. Of course she remembered Lin Wan—or rather, the afternoon when, as “Luo Zhiyao,” she had had lunch with this Vice President.

Back then, she had been dressed in women’s clothes, altering her tone and posture. But now, she was Luo Xiaoyun, wearing a simple white shirt and jeans, with short, neat hair—completely the image of a young boy.

Yet Lin Wan’s look made her heart race. Had she been recognized?

“Luo Xiaoyun,” Lin Wan suddenly spoke, her voice soft but probing. “Have we met somewhere before?”

Luo Xiaoyun’s heart skipped a beat. Forcing calm, she shook her head. “Probably not. I haven’t seen you before, Senior Lin.”

“Is that so…” Lin Wan’s eyes remained on Luo Xiaoyun. “Then I must have misremembered. But you look a lot like a girl I know—it’s almost like you’re siblings.”

She paused, as if casually asking, “By the way, do you know a girl named Luo Zhiyao? She also goes to our school.”

The air seemed to freeze for a moment.

Luo Xiaoyun felt a chill creep up her back. Forcing a natural smile, she said, “Luo Zhiyao? Never heard of her. Same surname? That’s quite a coincidence.”

“I see.” Lin Wan nodded, but the doubt in her eyes didn’t fully dissipate. She sat back down and picked up her files. “It really is a coincidence. You two look so alike—I almost thought you were the same person.”

Su Muxue walked over and gently patted Luo Xiaoyun’s shoulder. “Wanwan, you’re scaring Xiaoyun. Plenty of people look alike; there’s nothing strange about it.”

She turned to Luo Xiaoyun, her tone light. “Come on, let’s go inside. I have some files to sort out. You can rest on the couch over there.”

The President’s office was at the far end of the room—a relatively independent small space. Pushing the door open revealed a simple yet comfortable setup.

A large desk sat by the window, stacked neatly with documents and a few books. Against the wall was a small light-gray two-seater sofa.

“Rest here. You can read a book or play on your phone.” Su Muxue pointed to the sofa. “I’ll need about an hour or two.”

Luo Xiaoyun nodded and sat down on the sofa. The soft cushions enveloped her gently. Letting out a breath, she pulled out her phone. The conversation with Lin Wan had left her shaken; she had almost thought she was discovered.

Su Muxue sat at the desk, opened her laptop, and began focusing on her files. The room fell quiet, broken only by the soft tapping of keys and the occasional rustle of paper. Sunlight slanted through the window, casting a bright patch on the wooden floor.

Luo Xiaoyun opened her phone but couldn’t concentrate. Her gaze unconsciously drifted to Su Muxue.

The senior sister at work looked different from her usual gentle self—she frowned slightly at the screen, fingers flying across the keyboard, occasionally pausing to think and jotting notes on a sticky pad. That focused, capable aura made Luo Xiaoyun stare in a daze.

Just then, light footsteps and cheerful voices came from outside the door.

“Hello, Sister Lin Wan!”

A crisp, lively voice rang out, sweet and smiling.

“Jiaojiao, you’re here.” Lin Wan replied. “Muxue is inside.”

The office door swung open, and two figures entered one after another. The girl in front was small, with twin ponytails, wearing a pink hoodie and a denim skirt.

Her eyes were big and round, like a lively fawn. Behind her came a taller girl, her black hair tied in a high ponytail, dressed in a simple white T-shirt and cargo pants, looking handsome and neat.

“Su Su, I missed you so much!” The small girl’s eyes lit up as soon as she entered, and she pounced on Su Muxue behind the desk, hugging her and nuzzling affectionately. “You’ve gotten even prettier in just a few days!”

Su Muxue swayed from the impact, helplessly smiling and patting her back. “Jiaojiao, don’t be silly.”

“I just missed you, that’s all.” The girl called Jiaojiao lifted her head, but before she could finish, the taller girl gently lifted her off Su Muxue like picking up a mischievous kitten.

The little loli opened her mouth but then turned her gaze and spotted Luo Xiaoyun on the sofa. Her eyes widened even more. “Oh my, Junior Xiaoyun is here too!”

Just then, the taller girl placed a transparent container on the desk. “I just bought strawberries and mangoes. They’re already cut; forks are inside. Help yourselves.”

These two were Ji Haitang and Shen Jiaojiao, whom Luo Xiaoyun had met before.

Luo Xiaoyun quickly stood up. “Thank you, Senior Ji.”

“You’re welcome.” Ji Haitang replied simply, then walked over to Su Muxue, leaning down to look at the computer screen. “I’ve gone over the rehearsal schedule for the art festival. A few time slots might need adjusting…”

She started discussing work with Su Muxue in a serious, professional tone.

Shen Jiaojiao, however, didn’t join their conversation. She blinked her big eyes, grinned, and walked over to the sofa, sitting down beside Luo Xiaoyun. Then she tilted her head, looking at her with a meaningful gaze.

Feeling uncomfortable under that stare, Luo Xiaoyun was about to speak when Shen Jiaojiao leaned in closer, lowering her voice, a sly smile on her face. “Who would’ve thought, Junior Xiaoyun, you and our Su Su are moving so fast.”

“Moving fast on what?” Luo Xiaoyun was taken aback, not catching on.

“Still playing dumb?” Shen Jiaojiao grinned like a cat that had stolen fish. “Haven’t you already got Su Su? How long has it been, and you’re already bringing her to the Student Union office? Tsk tsk.”

Luo Xiaoyun’s face flushed bright red, and she stammered, “Wha-what do you mean ‘got her’? It’s nothing like what you’re thinking! I’m just… just resting here for a while…”

“Oh~ resting for a while~” Shen Jiaojiao drew out the words, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “Alone together, playing so dangerously!”

“No! What are you thinking…” Luo Xiaoyun waved her hands frantically, her cheeks hot enough to fry an egg.

Shen Jiaojiao wore an expression of “I know everything,” slowly pulled out her phone, swiped a few times on the screen, then held it up to Luo Xiaoyun. “Look, such an intimate gesture—ordinary relationships don’t do this~”

The phone screen showed exactly the photo secretly taken at lunch: sunlight streaming through the window onto the table, Luo Xiaoyun blushing as she offered braised pork to Su Muxue’s lips, Su Muxue leaning in slightly, a gentle smile at the corner of her mouth. The angle captured perfectly the natural, intimate atmosphere between them.

Luo Xiaoyun’s eyes widened, and she froze. She never expected that someone had taken a photo of them in that secluded corner at lunch!

“Th-this…” she stammered, her mind blank. “I was just letting her taste it…”

“I understand, I understand.” Shen Jiaojiao took back her phone, her eyes curving into crescents. “Feeding play, a little fun between lovers—I get it~”

She leaned in even closer, lowering her voice to a whisper, full of curiosity. “But I really want to know how you got Su Su. I asked her a long time ago if she was interested in dating, and she said she wasn’t interested in boys. Now it looks like she was just fooling me.”

Luo Xiaoyun smiled awkwardly, thinking silently: Your Su Su probably wasn’t fooling you…

But of course, she couldn’t say that out loud.

“I knew you could get her.” Shen Jiaojiao patted her shoulder, an “I believe in you” expression on her face. “Su Su has never brought any guy to her Student Union office, let alone let him wait for her while she works. You’re the first. That says a lot.”

Luo Xiaoyun opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say. She could only feel her ears burning, and even the back of her neck had quietly flushed pink.
