In 20xx, a groundbreaking masterpiece titled ‘Awaken the Gods’ burst onto the scene. It was humanity’s first fully immersive virtual reality game.

Its hyper-realistic graphics and life-or-death battles, which felt incredibly real, immediately garnered global attention upon its release.

Now, after supposedly two and a half years of meticulous refinement, the first closed beta for ‘Awaken the Gods’ was officially announced yesterday.

It was set to open to global players today at ten o’clock, with a limited release of one hundred thousand beta slots.

While one hundred thousand slots seemed like a considerable number, when considering the vast global population, this allocation was, in truth, quite insufficient.

Lu Qian was fortunate enough to be one of them.

“Take care, sir!”

As the first fully immersive virtual reality game, the necessary equipment for the initial wave of players would be distributed by the game company, with staff arranged for home installation.

After seeing off the installation technician at the door, Lu Qian closed the door and eagerly rushed towards their room.

A pristine white gaming pod lay silently there. The moment Lu Qian approached, its hatch intelligently opened.

Picking up the helmet and settling into the highly futuristic pod, the hatch slowly closed.

Following the instructions, Lu Qian excitedly pressed the activation button on the helmet, and with a touch of youthful exuberance, shouted out a phrase.

“Awaken the Gods, activate!”

The next moment, several safety belts sprang out from both sides, firmly securing Lu Qian. Simultaneously, the entire gaming pod began to vibrate, and a mechanical female voice echoed from all directions.

[Launch pod preparing for ignition. Safety belts secured for passenger.]

“Huh? Wait? Why does a gaming pod need to ignite? Is this some kind of satellite rocket launch capsule!?”

Lu Qian felt a surge of panic. However, the safety belts were too tight; they couldn’t break free, only blinking their eyes helplessly a couple of times.

[A wonderful journey to another world is about to begin. Please prepare for departure.]

[Three]

[Two]

“Wait! Aren’t I playing a game?? What the hell is a ‘journey to another world’??? And why has the countdown already started?!!!”

The vibrations from beneath grew increasingly violent. There was no longer any time for Lu Qian to complain.

As the final ‘One’ arrived, a powerful force pressed them back into the seat.

Accompanied by a deafening roar that sounded as if the roof had been torn away, the world before Lu Qian’s eyes began to distort and transform into streaks of light, rushing past them.

On this day, another brilliant and magnificent star appeared in the vast, boundless sky.

[Player: Eve Wells (Lv.1)]

[Gender: Female]

[Race: Undead (Demon Lord’s Army Faction)]

[Status: Weakened]

Inside her head, a series of beeping sounds roused the young woman from unconsciousness.

“Ugh… My head, it hurts so much… I’m so dizzy…”

The young woman rubbed her head. She tried to move her body but found she couldn’t, as if trapped in a cramped space.

The surroundings were pitch black, so dark she couldn’t see her own hand.

The only source of light was a prompt box displayed before her eyes.

“This is… the personal information from ‘Awaken the Gods’ gameplay demo?”

“Ugh…”

Eve remembered. Not long ago, she had been a gaming recluse. She had entered the gaming pod, only to wake up here.

“So am I playing a game right now, or have I actually traveled to another world?”

“Wait, why is my gender female…”

“Ugh…”

Another sharp intake of breath escaped her.

Only then did Eve realize her voice had changed from before.

This sweet, soft vocal tone was clearly not the voice a home-bound, slacker gamer would possess.

Her hand instinctively reached downwards, only to find nothing there.

“Holy crap, my d*ck is gone!”

The young woman’s cute voice erupted with a vulgar expletive.

However, Eve quickly calmed down. After all, she had played female characters in games before, so she rapidly accepted this change in gender.

For now, it was better to prioritize confirming her current location and situation.

“The tags ‘Undead’ and ‘Demon Lord’s Army’ in the race section… they give me a really bad feeling…”

She murmured softly. Using the ‘Awaken the Gods’ game guide she recalled from memory, she hid the personal information panel.

Then, Eve began to cautiously feel around her surroundings.

Although she didn’t find a way out, she did, however, discover a prompt box.

[Do you wish to leave the Novice Village protection area?]

“Whose novice village is this small?!”

Eve couldn’t help but complain.

The place she was in was cramped and stuffy, like being buried in a coffin. And they called this a novice village?

However, the appearance of the prompt box seemed to imply she could use the game system to reach the outside.

“Yes! I want to leave here!”

As her words fell, a loud ‘bang’ resounded. Eve felt her vision suddenly clear.

The moon was bright and the stars sparse. A gentle, cool breeze brushed across the young woman’s face, bringing a slight chill.

Eve sat up from the coffin. Seeing the lid of the coffin flung aside beside her, the corner of her mouth twitched involuntarily.

“So it really was a coffin after all?!”

“Shouldn’t a normal game’s novice village be an actual village? Why is mine a coffin?!”

Eve exhaled. She quickly composed herself and surveyed her surroundings.

This appeared to be a graveyard. Tombstones were visible everywhere.

Aside from the commotion of her earlier coffin-opening and her own complaints, the place was eerily quiet.

Eve realized something. She quickly looked behind her.

Sure enough, a tombstone stood there as well.

Leaning closer to examine it, she saw four short lines of text carved upon it.

It wasn’t any language she recognized from her original world. Logically, she shouldn’t have been able to understand it.

Yet, strangely, Eve could comprehend what was written.

[Died at the age of 16]

Withdrawing her gaze, Eve stroked her smooth chin and murmured, “So, the original owner of this body is dead? No wonder my race is Undead…”

‘How logical!’

Boom—boom—!

At that moment, a dull thudding sound echoed from not far away, instantly capturing Eve’s attention.

In a graveyard late at night, such sounds, akin to someone hammering on a coffin lid, would typically send most normal people fleeing in terror.

Eve, however, was different. She had just emerged from a coffin herself, so instead of fear, she felt a surge of curiosity, turning to look in the direction of the sound.

“Could it be another ‘Awaken the Gods’ player?”

Indeed, Eve assumed another player had also spawned in the graveyard, just like her.

Pushing herself up, she clambered breathlessly out of the coffin and walked towards the tomb from which the sounds emanated. She intended to greet her unfortunate, kindred spirit, perhaps even forming an early exploration party if possible.

However, before she could reach it, a decayed and grotesque skeletal hand emerged from the soil in front of the tombstone, frantically clawing at the air.

“Ugh—Agh!”

Husky, monstrous growls emanated from the broken earth where the skeletal hand had appeared.

Eve froze, swallowing hard.

The other party, it seemed…

was not her kind…
