Chapter 23: Unexpected Miracles and Strategic Skills

Alice wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, her gaze fixed on Eve, still unable to fully dispel her worries. “But your body…”

“Alice, do you truly see me as so frail?”

“Are you not?” Alice countered, then began counting on her fingers, recounting every incident from discovering Eve last night until now. “Eve-chan managed to break her back just moving a coffin, this morning she was too weak to even get out of bed, and now she’s suddenly fallen into an inexplicable coma…”

“With you like this, how could I possibly feel at ease?!”

Her voice trembling, the young girl’s final words rose in pitch. She didn’t care if others were present; the cry seemed to erupt from the very depths of her soul.

A fresh wave of bitterness and lingering fear surged within Alice’s heart.

If she had any say in it, she truly wished never to endure such a parting again.

The sudden rise in Alice’s voice silenced Eve. The girl before her was genuinely worried, truly caring for her, and such sincere concern should not be taken for granted.

“I’m sorry, Alice. I’ve been making you worry about me all this time.”

“However, you can rest easy now, Alice. Didn’t you just give me that healing potion? I feel like it won’t be long before I fully regain my mobility.”

“And look, what’s this?”

Eve attempted to move her twisted arm. Though she still couldn’t lift it, she was perfectly capable of casting a skill.

In-game footage of *Summoning Gods* demonstrated skill casting. Unlike other games, players didn’t need to click to activate abilities; a mere thought was enough for immediate release. Even incantation-based magic only required a brief casting delay.

Of course, if one didn’t mind the awkwardness or the ‘chūnibyō’ vibe, they could also shout out skill names and still cast them normally.

Leaving aside everything else, its ability to draw aggro was certainly top-notch.

*Whirr—*

Eve felt as though something unseen had been consumed. Then, in the palm of her hand, a dazzling burst of holy light erupted.

Upon seeing the holy light, Alice’s expression visibly shifted. Her initial confusion transformed into astonishment, causing her to cover her mouth.

Eve found Alice’s incredulous reaction quite gratifying.

“Well?”

“You never expected this, did you? That joke you made earlier, Alice, about me coexisting with holy light? It’s come true!”

If her bones weren’t currently fractured and dislocated, she would undoubtedly be standing with her hands on her hips, looking utterly smug.

“I truly didn’t expect this… Eve, how exactly did you manage it?”

After her initial surprise, Alice was quickly overcome with elation, unconsciously forgetting her previous sorrow.

Eve smiled mysteriously. “Want to know?”

Alice nodded quickly.

She had been pondering the feasibility of an undead creature coexisting with holy light ever since her journey back yesterday. To think Eve had already figured it out on her own!

What’s more, Eve could even *use* holy light. This outcome surpassed even Alice’s wildest fantasies.

“Hehe~ I’ll tell you when we get back. For now, you can relax, Alice, can’t you?”

“Quickly, go check on the maid that knight is holding. She collapsed from heatstroke because of me, and her life is still in danger. If we delay any longer and something unexpected happens, I’ll feel incredibly guilty.”

Eve subtly jutted her chin forward, gesturing again that Alice should prioritize saving the maid.

In doing so, she also took full responsibility for the earlier events.

This time, Alice finally had the presence of mind to notice the maid she had initially overlooked.

It wasn’t that Alice disregarded life; rather, Eve’s importance to her far outweighed that of any other patient. There was simply no comparison.

Once Eve was no longer a cause for concern, Alice’s compassionate nature as a Saintess immediately shone through.

Alice quickly moved to Joedi, who was still kneeling on the ground, and spoke. “Captain Joedi, let me assess the situation of the heatstroke victim.”

“Yes!”

Joedi turned slightly, carefully placing the maid he held onto the ground.

Through a shimmering silver glow, Alice could already discern the maid’s pale complexion.

Indeed, there was no more time to waste.

Alice decisively extended her hand towards the young maid. A golden pendant, having appeared in her hand at some unknown moment, was securely wrapped around her palm.

As she opened her palm, the end of the golden pendant, adorned with an emerald gem, hung down, emitting a clear, crisp sound.

“May life bloom like emerald, and be reborn.”

Alice murmured the words, and the pendant began to glow with a faint, ethereal green light.

The unconscious maid’s previously furrowed brow relaxed. Her complexion, no longer pale, now showed a healthy flush.

This miraculous display naturally caught Eve’s eye.

‘To instantly heal someone is absolutely outrageous,’ Eve thought. ‘With abilities like that, doctors in this world would have no livelihood at all…’

In that brief moment, Eve also felt sensation returning to one of her arms.

The continuous healing buff from the holy water was rapidly mending her external injuries.

‘Right, and don’t forget fast recovery items like potions.’

Eve mused silently.

Such an event, almost impossible in her original reality, once again made her feel as though she were playing a game.

Yet, everything was so incredibly real…

In this otherworld with no exit button, did death truly signify ‘game over’?

This thought resurfaced in Eve’s mind once more.

‘Why am I already getting emotional before midnight even hits…’

Eve shook her head, dispelling the extraneous thoughts. To divert her attention, she summoned the system to check her skills.

Each profession had initial transitional skills. Further professional skills, however, came with level restrictions and other unlock requirements. Skills that were too far beyond the current level couldn’t even be viewed.

For instance, Eve could currently only see three active skills and one grayed-out skill on her personal panel. Beyond those, everything else was a question mark, shackled by locks.

Eve couldn’t learn the grayed-out skill yet. It required her to reach level 20 and possess at least one Holy Spirit in her Heroic Spirit Pantheon talent before she could learn and use it.

However, the skill description was still viewable.

[Interdimensional Crossing: Instantly swap positions with a Holy Spirit and gain a shield. When taking fatal damage, this skill automatically activates, selecting the nearest Holy Spirit to complete the swap, but no longer grants a shield. (Cooldown: Each Holy Spirit can trigger Interdimensional Crossing only once per day)]

Truly befitting its status as the strongest skill in its level tier, it was a powerful and strategically vital life-saving ability.

With just a glance at the description, Eve’s mind already formulated strategies for using the skill.

She could keep a Holy Spirit in the coffin as a failsafe. If she encountered an insurmountable foe, even if her main body was instantly killed, she would immediately return to her happy old home.

The only drawback of this skill was its strong reliance on Holy Spirits. While the one-per-day restriction was significant in the early stages, once the number of Holy Spirits increased later on, this wouldn’t be a concern at all.

‘Then it’ll be, ‘I’m counting on you, other me, other me, other me, lol…’

Of course, it was a wonderful thought. But for now, the skill couldn’t be used; she would have to practice it once learned.

Eve then shifted her gaze to the three illuminated, usable skills.
