Chapter 97: The Coffin’s Protection and a Lesson Learned

[Newbie Village protection mechanism activated.]

[Your request to repel the Tier 7 magic from Elf Prince Valorman has been granted.]

[Upon detection, target ‘Valorman’ was determined to be attempting to maliciously destroy the Newbie Village, triggering the High-Tier Defense Mechanism.]

[Newbie Village High-Tier Defense Mechanism has successfully eliminated the target.]

[Newbie Village High-Tier Defense Mechanism has successfully recovered the target’s soul fragments (these soul fragments will be converted into bonus experience).]

[Congratulations! You participated in the defeat of enemy ‘Valorman’.]

[Upon detection, you have defeated a powerful enemy above your level, granting you increased experience.]

[Upon detection, you defeated an enemy within the Newbie Village’s protected area; experience gain efficiency will be halved.]

[Congratulations! You have leveled up.]

A green glow enveloped Eve Wells, who was still hidden inside the coffin.

Watching the system notifications continuously pop up before her eyes, she couldn’t help but rub her face frantically against the coffin beneath her.

She wiggled incessantly, much like a mealworm squirming within its confines.

“It truly has to be my precious coffin! It’s simply too powerful, ahhh!”

After indulging in a moment of unrestrained excitement while no one could see her, Eve Wells finally managed to calm her racing heart.

‘That targeting mechanism is truly outrageous, though,’ she mused. ‘Why did it have to target me so aggressively?’

She had merely picked up a coffin, yet the elf had completely lost his temper over it.

Now, look what happened. He was instantly eliminated by the very mechanism he triggered.

Eve Wells had already been preparing to make her escape with Anna and the others, but Valorman insisted on delivering one last ‘gift’.

Before his demise, he had effectively boosted her directly to Level 25.

Any lingering resentment Eve Wells held towards the Tier 3 opponent vanished instantly.

Instead, she found herself thinking he was surprisingly kind, almost overly polite!

Now that her opponent was gone, Eve Wells felt it was time to emerge.

Boom—

The adorable little undead rose from her coffin!

Well, this wasn’t Eve Wells’s deliberate intention, but every time she exited the Newbie Village area, the coffin lid would just fly off on its own.

It always made it seem as if the person inside had risen from the dead.

Which, to be fair, was exactly what happened.

A chilling wind whistled past, and Anna materialized before Eve Wells.

“Luosha, you…”

Anna began to speak, but found herself at a loss for words, feeling that anything she said would be inappropriate.

Luosha stood perfectly fine before her, having directly faced an attack that would have required Anna’s full power to merely withstand.

Not only was Luosha unharmed, but even the coffin beneath her remained completely unscathed.

It was utterly unbelievable.

However, Anna considered that this might merely be an illusion. Valorman’s previous attack had reached beyond Tier 6, a strike from the legendary domain.

It was impossible to withstand such an assault without any repercussions; Luosha must have expended a tremendous amount of energy.

After a moment of internal struggle and contemplation, Anna finally spoke.

“I apologize. I should have gone with you.”

Anna was thinking that if she hadn’t continued to entangle herself with the enemy at that moment, but instead chose to cover Luosha and retrieve the coffin, she could have taken that powerful blow for her.

While she might not have appeared as outwardly unharmed as Luosha, it would have been the safest and most secure approach.

Eve Wells flinched, startled by Anna’s words.

“No, no, no, it’s a good thing you and Anna weren’t with me,” she quickly interjected.

She had the absolute domain of the Newbie Village provided by her coffin for protection, but Anna and the others had nothing.

Eve Wells hadn’t forgotten the system notification stating that Valorman had unleashed Tier 7 magic!

Even the normally stoic Anna would have been severely wounded if she had been hit.

The hooded girl, held under Anna’s arm, gazed tearfully at Eve Wells.

“Wuwu… I’m sorry… Luosha… I was too reckless…”

Valorman was Luosha’s legendary relic…

‘Hmm, so it’s impossible that Luosha remained completely unharmed after taking Valorman’s attack just now…’

The arrow that Bido Ai Li shot at Dori had thoroughly shaken Yulim Wilivia awake.

Her kindness would not move her enemies; it would only bring trouble upon her companions.

[If you had died here tonight, what would your sister Anna have done?]

Roly’s words resonated deeply, applying not just to Yulim Wilivia, but to herself.

If their roles were reversed, and her sister Anna had died here, what would Yulim Wilivia have done?

Only through loss does one truly learn to cherish.

As Roly’s figure was swallowed by the devastating blow, Yulim Wilivia finally understood the feeling of a companion leaving her side forever.

If Roly had truly died at Yuliman’s hands because of her, Yulim Wilivia would have undoubtedly fought to the death against him!

Even if she succeeded in avenging her, what good would it do? A companion’s death was a stark reality, one that could never be undone.

And all of it would have been because of her!

Yulim Wilivia would never forgive herself!

Just then, she felt a gentle touch on the top of her head.

“Yulim, you should feel fortunate right now,” Eve Wells’s voice was soft. “Fortunate that you’ve learned this lesson without a tragedy actually occurring.”

“It’s a good thing it was me this time.”

“But good fortune doesn’t always favor one person,” she added.

“Do you understand?”

Watching Eve Wells gently withdraw her hand, Yulim Wilivia nodded obediently.

In her heart, Roly’s image had grown even more lofty and sacred.

Feeling that her lecture was complete, Eve Wells hopped out of the coffin.

She was just about to look for where her coffin lid had flown off to when the little maid, Wennya, pounced on her face like a face-hugger.

“Wah! That’s wonderful! Miss Eve, you’re unharmed!”

“Although Wennya knows that Miss I— Miss Roly’s coffin is very sturdy, she was still so worried!”

Eve Wells painstakingly peeled the little maid off her face and set her on the ground.

With a mix of helplessness and playful grievance, she said, “Wennya, since you already know, there’s even less need to worry about me. When has your lady ever lied to you?”

Wennya shook her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “That depends on the timing!”

Wennya nodded emphatically.

She then took Eve Wells’s hand and placed it on her own head, gazing up at Eve Wells expectantly. “Then, Wennya wants head pats too!”

Eve Wells paused, a little surprised.

A moment later, she chuckled helplessly and indulged her little maid with a good round of head pats.

While Eve Wells stroked her hair, Wennya lifted her head and glanced at Yulim Wilivia, as if staking her claim.

The hooded girl blinked, looking utterly bewildered.

‘Uh, I think this is our first time meeting…’ she thought. ‘What’s with this inexplicable hostility?’

Meanwhile, Eve Wells was contemplating.

‘Why has Wennya been so much more proactive lately?’

‘Hmm, well, Eve Wells doesn’t really dislike such behavior. In fact, having a cute little maid actively seek head pats is one of life’s great joys!’

However, Eve Wells didn’t pat for too long before withdrawing her hand and turning to search for her coffin lid.

The little maid eagerly volunteered to help her retrieve it.

Anna surveyed the remaining elven soldiers around them. They were still reeling from the terrifying power of Valorman’s arrow.

Even those who had regained some composure were momentarily intimidated by the group’s strength and dared not initiate an attack.

Although Anna sensed no immediate threat, she still picked up Eve Wells’s coffin and followed along.

Once they retrieved the coffin lid, Eve Wells straightforwardly handed it to Anna, stating with solemnity, “Anna, I can’t fly, so I’ll have to trouble you to carry the coffin back, just like when we came.”

Seeing the usually stoic Anna nod, Eve Wells confidently lay back down inside the coffin.

Wennya, too, immediately crawled in after her, snuggling close to Eve Wells.

Eve Wells then waved a hand towards Anna.

“Anna, help us put the lid on the coffin.”

“Oh, and remember to handle it with care when we arrive!”

“Goodnight, Makka Pakka~”
