Chapter 44: A Maid’s Unwavering Loyalty

Wennya blinked her large eyes. A wave of concern washed over her as she watched her mistress suddenly start giggling foolishly mid-sentence. Quickly, she waved a hand in front of Eve’s eyes, attempting to recapture her attention.

“Miss Eve? Miss Eve? What’s wrong? Please don’t scare Wennya!”

Wennya’s efforts proved effective. Eve successfully pulled her gaze away from the system interface, turning to Wennya. “Hmm? What is it, Wennya?”

Wennya clutched her small hands, her little cowlick drooping sadly as she spoke with a hint of grievance. “Miss Eve, you ask what’s wrong… You suddenly started giggling foolishly. It made me so worried…”

“Uh, I just suddenly remembered something happy.”

“Really?”

“Yes, really. I’m sorry to have worried our cute little maid, Wennya. Head pat~”

Eve unleashed another head pat.

The effect was outstanding!

Wennya calmed down quickly, contentedly enjoying Eve’s gentle pats. Her little cowlick bounced up and down with each stroke, and she emitted soft, adorable sounds. “Mmm-hmm, mmm-hmm…”

“So, have you forgiven me?”

“Mmm-hmm~ Wennya forgave Miss Eve a long time ago~”

After their heartwarming interaction, Eve retrieved a coffin from her bracelet.

Seeing Wennya look puzzled, Eve thoughtfully began to explain. “Wennya, that talk we had about traveling together, it actually means I’d like you to hide inside this coffin.”

“This way, you’ll still know what’s happening outside during the day. Later, if there’s a situation where we need to fight together, you can appear more quickly to help. Perhaps you could even catch the enemy by surprise, striking them when they least expect it.”

Wennya’s eyes lit up. “As expected of Miss Eve, you are truly brilliant! To devise such an excellent tactical plan!”

“Hee hee hee~ Right? I think I’m quite brilliant too!”

At Wennya’s praise, Eve proudly put her hands on her hips and lifted her head high, her nose practically growing as long as a pillar with conceit.

Of course, Eve didn’t forget to tell Wennya about the skill. She sobered her expression, her smile fading, and spoke seriously. “However, there’s another point I need to tell you about, which is one of my new abilities.”

“That is, if I meet with misfortune, or receive a fatal blow from an enemy, Wennya, you will swap places with me, thereby taking the brunt of the attack.”

“At that point, it’s highly likely you will die…”

“Wennya is willing!”

Before Eve could finish her explanation, Wennya answered preemptively.

The little maid stepped forward and hugged Eve’s arm, her brilliant, pure golden eyes holding a smile as she gazed at Eve. “To be revived and see Miss Eve again, Wennya is already overjoyed!”

“Wennya is Miss Eve’s person by nature. Whatever it is for Miss Eve, Wennya is willing!”

“Moreover, to die for Miss Eve is Wennya’s greatest honor as a maid!”

“Wennya will never regret becoming Miss Eve’s maid!”

The girl’s heartfelt words, brimming with genuine sincerity and loyalty, resonated deeply within Eve.

For a moment, she felt as if her heart, long since ceased to beat within her chest, had suddenly trembled.

“Wennya…”

Her eyes felt a little moist.

It turned out she was crying.

‘Damn it, ever since I became a girl, why have I become so emotional, crying at the drop of a hat…’

Eve wiped away her tears with a swift hand and looked seriously at Wennya. “Wennya, I won’t let you die.”

Wennya grew anxious upon hearing this and quickly tried to persuade her. “Miss Eve, since you have such an ability, please use it to protect yourself.”

“Don’t worry about Wennya. Wennya has already died once; it doesn’t matter if I die again!”

‘Fool, precisely because you’ve already died once, is why I don’t want you to truly die again…’

Eve murmured to herself inwardly. Outwardly, however, she extended a fist and gently tapped Wennya’s head, looking at her as if she were an idiot.

“I never said I wouldn’t use this ability. This kind of precautionary measure might not even be used once in a lifetime, so don’t make it sound like a final farewell.”

“Besides, I wasn’t finished speaking. Wennya, you are my Holy Spirit, and as long as I don’t die, I’ll still have a way to revive you.”

“At most, you might feel like you’ve died then.”

Wennya covered her small head and nodded innocently. “So, even if Wennya dies, she’ll still have a chance to see Miss Eve again?”

Eve crossed her arms over her chest and turned her face away, letting out a rather tsundere “Hmph~” as she acknowledged Wennya’s words.

Wennya instantly leaped up happily from the ground and threw herself onto Eve, her golden cowlick swinging wildly.

“Waaah… It’s so wonderful to be with Miss Eve forever and ever! Wennya is so happy!”

Facing Wennya’s face-hugger assault, Eve stumbled two steps before she managed to steady herself with difficulty. “Hey, hey! Wennya, don’t jump on me so suddenly next time! If I don’t stand firm, we’ll both fall to the ground!”

“Hehe~”

“Stop giggling foolishly, now say ‘I understand’!”

“Mmm-hmm, Wennya understands~”

After carefully detaching Wennya from herself, Eve then retrieved a bathtub and an unknown scroll, whose function was to add water, from her bracelet.

While she wasn’t particularly obsessed with cleanliness, being clean wasn’t a bad thing either.

After so many battles, she was bound to have some slime residue on her, so with Wennya’s ministrations, she still gave herself a thorough wash.

‘Truly, a professional maid. Her bathing technique was simply too amazing; it was far more comfortable than my own haphazard scrubbing!’

“Ohh~”

Eve lay draped over the edge of the bathtub, moaning softly, feeling her entire body relax into jelly.

Even after emerging from the tub, dried, and dressed in her formal attire and a small skirt by Wennya, she still had the illusion of floating.

Shaking her head, Eve cleared her mind. Together with Wennya, she tidied everything in the tent, and finally, she had Wennya hide inside the coffin.

She then hoisted the coffin onto her back. After exiting the tent and recalling it with her bracelet, she returned to the main caravan.

The combination of a loli and a large coffin was undeniably conspicuous.

Everyone noticed that after Eve returned from her bath, she was carrying a large coffin on her back.

A single question arose in everyone’s minds.

“What exactly is inside?”

One particularly tactless adventurer wanted to ask, but was stopped by Odell.

“Hey, do you know what that thing is?”

“A coffin? What about it?”

“Since you know it’s a coffin, you must be able to imagine what’s inside, right? So I advise you not to pry into Miss Luosha’s secrets.”

Odell left that warning and turned away. He then cautioned each member of his adventurer group. “No matter what’s inside, don’t ask about it. Otherwise, you’ll bear all the consequences yourself.”
