Chapter 51: Divine Witness to an Unconventional Sisterhood

Three question marks seemed to materialize above Eve’s head.

“Blood sworn? Who? Me?”

“No, the three of us! Yulim agreed too!”

Anna proudly puffed out her ample chest, her face beaming.

Eve turned her head, her gaze falling upon Yulim, a look of profound doubt in her eyes.

‘That look seemed to ask, ‘You actually agreed to this nonsense?’ ‘

Yulim, equally bewildered, felt a rush of crimson stain her pale cheeks under Eve’s scrutiny. She instantly covered her face and crouched down.

Her small hands gripped the edge of her hood, pulling it down fiercely, as if desperate to vanish from sight.

‘No doubt, the poor girl was probably so mortified she could dig a three-bedroom apartment with her toes.’

‘Clearly, Anna, you hadn’t secured anyone’s agreement at all; this blood-sworn sisterhood was purely an impulsive idea you conjured up on a whim!’

A corner of Eve’s mouth twitched involuntarily. “So, do I have the option to decline?”

Anna let out a small, pitiful sound.

The blue-haired girl slid forward at lightning speed, dropping to her knees and clinging tightly to Eve’s thigh. She frantically rubbed her blue hair and face against Eve’s leg, sticking to her like glue, as if to say she wouldn’t let go until Eve agreed.

“Wuwuwu, Luosha, please, I beg you… just agree to my whimsical request, won’t you? This has always been my deepest wish, wuwuwu…”

“I, I can even give you all the money I have on me…”

At the mention of money, the hooded girl instantly shed her social anxiety. She snapped her head up, her beautiful eyes wide with alarm.

Yulim’s eyes widened further.

“Anna-jie, no! All our money is with you!”

“If you give it all to Luosha, what will become of us?”

“Think about me, wuwuwuwu…”

“I don’t want to eat grass and chew leaves anymore…”

At this thought, Yulim’s nose stung with emotion, and her entire demeanor wilted. She appeared wronged, pathetic, and utterly helpless.

In an instant, both girls looked utterly distraught, as if on the verge of death.

Eve could only stare.

‘What kind of ridiculous team have I joined?’

‘Is it too late to quit now?’

Pressing a hand to her forehead, Eve ultimately nodded with a sigh of resignation. “No, no, it’s fine. I agree to be blood-sworn sisters with you both…”

After all, Anna had just saved her life. Even if this felt like boarding a pirate ship, she still had to repay the kindness before making her escape.

Besides, this wasn’t truly a ‘pirate ship.’ With one girl at Level 58 and the other at Level 61, their combined strength was formidable, essentially equivalent to two Odells.

Eve had, in fact, witnessed the terrifying power the blue-haired girl commanded when she drew her sword.

Truth be told, in terms of raw power, it was Eve—a mere Level 20 undead fresh out of the newbie village—who resembled a husky inadvertently mixed into a pack of wolves, much like a popular internet meme.

“Really?!” both girls exclaimed, their voices overlapping.

Upon hearing her agreement, the two girls immediately snapped their heads up, much like huskies catching a scent. A brilliant sparkle ignited in each of their eyes.

Anna was overcome with surprise and excitement at Eve’s consent, while Yulim felt a surge of relief and joy upon hearing Eve refuse Anna’s offer of money.

With a quick movement, Anna sprang to her feet and enthusiastically seized Eve’s hand. “There’s no time to waste! Let’s become blood-sworn sisters right away!”

Yulim also rose, nodding her small head frantically. She feared Eve might change her mind and demand the money, and equally, she wanted to swiftly conclude the ceremony to prevent Anna-jie from any further thoughtless generosity.

Thus, propelled by the combined enthusiasm of the two girls, the forest blood-swearing ceremony swiftly commenced.

Before a tree stump, the trio stood in a neat line. Anna took the central position, flanked by Eve on one side and Yulim on the other, each holding a cup in their hands.

Anna stepped forward. “Today, the three of us shall become blood-sworn sisters of different surnames in this very spot. May the Goddess of Light bear witness to the bond we forge.”

“Please… please, Goddess of Light… bear witness…”

Yulim’s voice was barely a whisper; a careful listener might have detected a subtle tremor within it.

There was nothing for it; a scene like this was simply too overwhelming for her sensibilities.

Yet, unwilling to disappoint Anna-jie, she ultimately summoned her courage and recited her lines exactly as they had practiced.

Finally, it was Eve’s turn.

Eve took a deep breath, steeled her resolve, and forced herself to utter her lines despite the profound awkwardness.

“May the Goddess of Light bear witness…”

And, as might be expected…

The moment Eve finished her declaration, a series of system prompts materialized before her eyes.

[Goddess of Light feels doubt]

[Goddess of Light feels curiosity]

[Goddess of Light has acknowledged your request for witness]

[Goddess of Light is en route to the witnessing location]

Four consecutive notifications appeared, before Eve even had a chance to process them.

The sky above them suddenly bloomed with vast swathes of golden light. Everything between heaven and earth seemed to pass through a celestial filter, becoming imbued with a soft, magnificent radiance, like the gentle glow of a brilliant sun.

The golden light in the heavens began to converge, coalescing into a single, defined line across the sky.

The next moment, this celestial line expanded, as if an immense eye was slowly opening.

No, it *was* an eye!

The golden light continued to gather, now forming a distinct, golden iris!

Eve could feel the immense eye in the sky fixed squarely upon her.

Yulim, too, felt the weight of that gaze. A shiver ran through her entire body, her legs suddenly turning to jelly, and she swallowed a difficult gulp.

She could perceive the subtle shifts in her surroundings, and most acutely, the terrifying, heart-stopping gaze from above.

‘Could they have gone too far, drawing divine retribution?’

“No! I’m sorry, Goddess! I don’t want to die yet… Even if, even if I have to die, at least let me eat my fill first, wuwuwuwu (QAQ).”

Unlike Eve and Yulim, who were overwhelmed by pressure, Anna was utterly lost in the realization of her childhood dream of blood-sworn sisterhood.

The extraordinary changes unfolding around them were merely interpreted by her as the spectacular special effects she’d conjured in her mind, marking the imminent fulfillment of her wish.

Anna, even more excited, raised her cup high. “To our bond!”

After loudly proclaiming her toast, Anna promptly drained the water from her cup in a single gulp.

Yulim, too, unhesitatingly emptied her cup.

‘We’re practically dead anyway, might as well consume whatever we can!’

‘Though a single cup of water wouldn’t truly sate any hunger…’

With both girls having drunk, only Eve remained.

Eve, meanwhile, held her cup in a rigid, frozen posture.

‘She was still wearing her mask!’

‘Taking it off now to drink would be incredibly awkward!’

‘The Goddess of Light was still watching from the heavens!’

‘Calm down, Eve, calm down. There’s hardly any time left to think; I need to deal with this water, fast!’

Eve drew a deep breath, settling her racing thoughts, her mind now working at an accelerated pace.

‘The mask currently covering my face has no opening for a mouth, only slits for the eyes. So, is there a possibility…?’

‘If I pour the water through the eyeholes into the mask, would that still count as having drunk it?’

‘Damn! This idea is absolutely “genius”! Someone get this patient admitted to a mental hospital, stat!’

‘Only someone with a decade of brain damage could concoct such a plan!’

Eve felt utterly numb. It was as if she’d been assimilated by Anna, her own intellect somehow growing ‘wiser’ in the process.

Time was running out!

Eve gritted her teeth. In a moment of sheer desperation and quick-wittedness, she snatched up the cup and forcefully slammed it against the mouth area of her mask.

*Crack!*

A corner of the mask shattered under the impact, revealing the thin lips hidden beneath.

Seizing this momentary opening, Eve rapidly gulped down the water from the cup, a torrent of liquid swiftly vanishing into her mouth.

The crisis was averted!
