The system prompts appearing before Eve made her swallow with difficulty.
Her chopsticks still clutched a piece of meat, suspended mid-air, neither eaten nor discarded.
Eve had just witnessed the Demon Lord beside her execute a flawlessly smooth combo: first, a sudden outburst to smash Alice, then modifying everyone’s consciousness.
Yet, her own consciousness remained untouched by the modification!
She glanced at Yulim Wilivia and Kamil, both looking utterly bewildered, seemingly unaware of what had just transpired.
It was as if all memory of the incident had been completely erased, leaving them in a state of confusion.
‘Was this the Demon Lord’s power…’
‘No matter what they did, they could simply modify the enemy’s consciousness with a single thought, and the opponent would know nothing.’
‘This ability was simply too terrifying!’
‘Of course, more concerning than that…’
‘Now, she was the only one aware of what had just transpired, making it far too easy to expose herself as an anomaly!’
Eve wailed inwardly.
‘System, sometimes, it really isn’t so bad to be a fool…’
Eve knew her time for lamenting was short. To avoid drawing attention, she immediately mimicked Kamil and the others, putting on a bewildered expression. “Hmm? Ah? What happened?”
However, Eve was not the only one privy to the truth; another actor was present in this scene!
“I don’t know…”
The culprit Demon Lord also shook her head with a bewildered, innocent expression, as if to say, “Oh, this has nothing to do with me,” or “I don’t know anything at all.”
But that familiar glint in her eyes clearly betrayed a guilty conscience!
Detective Kamil stroked her chin, speculating seriously, “Perhaps it’s because the table’s quality was simply too poor…”
Upon hearing this, Eve and Fionn Cassius nodded in perfect, synchronized agreement, a truly uncanny display.
Believing this deduction to be true, Kamil immediately stood up and, with righteous indignation, went to find the bald owner.
“Owner, come take a look.”
“Hasn’t your table been replaced in ages? The quality is absolutely terrible!”
“My friends and I were just having a meal, and it shattered like this.”
“Now, all these skewers have fallen to the floor and are inedible. Owner, how do you plan to resolve this?”
Seeing the wreckage strewn across the floor, the bald owner scratched his smooth scalp. “It does seem like it’s been a while since it was replaced…”
“Ah… please don’t be angry, esteemed guests. This meal is on me. Afterwards, I’ll serve you a fresh, hot batch of skewers for this table. How does that sound, esteemed guests?”
Kamil hummed twice, a shrewd smile appearing on her face, as if she were easy to negotiate with. “That’s more like it, then.”
Witnessing this scene, Eve inwardly mourned for the unlucky owner, yet also felt a sense of absurdity.
Who would have thought that the first evil deed committed by a Demon Lord upon their arrival would be to cruelly destroy public property in a pub, then brazenly enjoy a free meal?
As Eve pondered this, she subtly glanced at the silver-haired girl beside her from the corner of her eye.
She found Fionn Cassius had lowered her head, like a child caught in mischief, incessantly fiddling with her delicate pink fingernails.
Finally, as if gathering courage, she looked up.
Hastily, to avoid being discovered, Eve averted her gaze, stuffing the meat from her chopsticks into her mouth, pretending to know nothing.
But soon, she felt a gentle tug on her sleeve.
Eve’s body instinctively tensed.
The only person who could tug at her sleeve like that was Fionn Cassius, sitting right beside her.
Turning her head, she saw Fionn Cassius first offer her an apologetic smile, then cautiously ask, “Roly, how much did all this food you ordered cost, approximately…?”
“How much…?”
“Mm-hmm!”
Eve paused, then glanced at the scattered remnants on the floor.
Most of the grilled meat on the table had been ordered by Anna. This time, to celebrate Yulim Wilivia’s safe return, they had ordered even more than before.
Without much thought, Eve quickly calculated in her mind and replied, “The skewers that fell on the floor were probably worth around eight silver coins.”
“H-how much?”
“Eight silver coins.”
As soon as she said this, Eve watched as the silver-haired girl’s beautiful eyes widened, her body swaying, almost causing her to fall to the floor.
‘Why is this Demon Lord reacting so strongly?’
Eve couldn’t help but feel a little strange, asking, “…Fionn, why are you suddenly asking about this?”
The silver-haired girl regained her composure, her gaze nervously shifting away. “I-I was just curious how much the owner would lose from this meal…”
‘Is she curious about how much damage her destruction caused…’
Eve pondered for a moment, then continued, “If you’re wondering how much the owner will lose, Fionn, the eight silver coins for the grilled meat are actually just a small part of it. If you add in replacing the shattered table, all these broken plates, and the shop’s cleanup… just all that alone.”
“It could easily be more than twenty silver coins.”
Upon hearing that it would cost over twenty silver coins, our Demon Lord instantly froze, her color draining, petrified, as if her very soul drifted out from her slightly agape mouth.
Fionn Cassius murmured unconsciously, “T-twenty silver coins… that much.”
“It’s over… it’s over… I… I don’t have that much money… What am I going to do!”
Although her murmurs were very soft, Eve, sitting so close, still heard them.
Seeing Fionn Cassius in such a state, a strange thought arose in Eve’s mind.
‘Our Demon Lord isn’t actually thinking of how to compensate the boss, is she?’
Eve, feigning ignorance despite knowing the truth, tentatively said, “Fionn, what are you talking about? You didn’t break the table, so you don’t need to pay for it. What are you afraid of?”
This statement, though a cruel jab, was the most effective way to probe.
As expected, Fionn Cassius stiffened, frantically waving her hands. “Y-yes… why would I be afraid… Hahaha… Haha…”
She was clearly feeling guilty and scared!
Eve narrowed her eyes slightly, then casually added, “However… if such a large loss in silver coins were caused intentionally, that person would probably be dragged to the back kitchen by the owner to wash dishes and work off their debt.”
“If a month’s salary is one silver coin, then they’d have to wash dishes without a moment’s rest for roughly a year and a half just to fully pay it back.”
Fionn Cassius: !!!
Eve watched the Demon Lord suddenly deflate beside her and couldn’t help but find it amusing.
It seemed this Demon Lord truly intended to repay the debt.
She even knew she should take responsibility for the damage she caused and compensate the owner for his losses.
Seriously, was she truly a Demon Lord? Such an innocent nature was utterly unlike what one would expect from a high-ranking character!
