Join the ServerYulim’s words piqued Kamil’s interest. She scrutinized Eve once more, then ventured a guess. “Yulim, you said Roly is incredibly strong. Could it be that Roly’s profession is a rogue?”
After all, she hadn’t seen any weapons typically wielded by conventional professions like bows, longswords, or staves on Roly.
The only truly noticeable features were the mask and the coffin strapped to their back.
A coffin certainly couldn’t be used as a weapon, so Roly’s profession had to be inferred from the mask.
Upon careful consideration, masks were worn to conceal one’s true identity. Among the various professions, rogues, a branch of rangers, were the ones most frequently needing to hide their faces.
Kamil felt confident she was almost certainly right, and with a self-assured flourish, she raised her glass and took a hearty gulp.
Just as Kamil’s conviction solidified, Yulim timidly interjected, “Sister Kamil… Roly is actually a cleric…”
“Cough, cough…”
Kamil, still mid-drink, choked on her wine at this revelation. She hastily wiped her mouth, her face a mask of bewilderment. “Huh? A cleric??”
Yulim nodded. She had intended to recount their recent experiences, but before speaking, she remembered that the incident involving the Godslayer Sword and the conflict with the elves wasn’t something to be openly discussed. After much deliberation, she finally rephrased, “Roly… Roly’s Divine Light has the power to bring people back from the brink of death… she saved me during a critical moment before…”
Only then did Kamil’s expression clear with understanding. “So, Yulim, when you spoke of her strength, you were referring to her healing abilities.”
She had just been thinking that Roly didn’t appear to be a combat-oriented cleric, like a Paladin or an Arbiter.
After all, she hailed from a family of priests and possessed a certain understanding of various cleric professions.
Still, this was truly unexpected.
Kamil had considered the possibility of being wrong, but she had never once imagined Roly’s profession would be that of a cleric.
‘She had never imagined Roly’s profession would be that of a cleric!’
In her mind, clerics typically enjoyed a stable, lifelong career provided by the Holy See, diligently serving in churches. While not necessarily living in lavish luxury, they would at least be free from worry about food and clothing.
Who would abandon such a life to become an adventurer, facing the elements and sleeping under the stars?
Kamil had always considered herself a remarkably rebellious anomaly.
Yet, to her surprise, there were actually others in the world who, like her, cast aside a promising future to forge their own path?
Instantly, Kamil felt a sense of finding a kindred spirit, and her impression of Roly soared.
‘It seems Roly is also someone destined for great things!’
With boundless enthusiasm, Kamil slapped the table. “Roly, tell me, what kind of project are you pursuing out here? Sister here has just one thing to say: I’m investing in your project!”
In that moment, Kamil resembled an outrageously generous, super-rich patroness.
Kamil’s sudden burst of enthusiasm left Eve somewhat amused and bewildered. “What project? I merely wish to explore and learn more about this beautiful world, and being an adventurer happens to be the identity that best allows me to pursue that goal.”
Kamil burst into laughter, clapping Eve heartily on the shoulder. “Excellent, excellent! Sister truly admires people like you! Now I can completely trust Fionn to your care!”
Then, with a grand gesture, she raised her own glass. “Come, Roly! Let’s celebrate Fionn’s impending debut as a new adventurer in advance! Tonight, we drink until we drop!”
Unable to refuse such genuine hospitality, Eve poured herself a glass of wine and clinked it against Kamil’s.
*Gulp, gulp—*
With one glass downed, Kamil immediately refilled both Eve’s and her own.
“Again, again!”
Picking up her glass, Eve instantly sensed something was amiss.
‘Oh, this devious woman, Kamil! She’s still set on having a drinking contest with me!’
‘Damn, what a cunning scheme!’
Eve gritted her teeth and raised her glass.
‘Fine, fine… if you’re going to be ruthless, then don’t blame me for being unjust!’
‘If I don’t knock this wicked woman out tonight, I’ll go wash my hair while standing on my head!’
‘Hmm… a strange competitive spirit had suddenly ignited within her!’
Soon after, Yulim and Fionn watched from the side as the two women began pouring drinks furiously, competing against each other.
“Indeed, I didn’t misjudge you! You’re a formidable opponent, Roly!”
“You’re not bad yourself, Kamil!”
“Continue!”
“I’ll see this through to the end!”
The proprietor, passing by to deliver roasted meat, had initially intended to intervene, but was swiftly rebuffed by a sharp retort from each of them.
“I’m an alchemist! With all sorts of high-grade life-saving potions on me, why would I worry about someone dying?!”
“And I’m a cleric! If anything happens to her, there’s no need to carry her to a church; I’ll just revive her right here!”
The proprietor: “…Alright, as long as you two are happy.”
Gradually, their drinking escalated from glass by glass, to chugging directly from bottles, and then to demanding the proprietor bring out entire kegs. The two women embraced the barrels, guzzling down the contents with increasing ferocity.
The wild and unrestrained drinking duel between Eve and Kamil captivated the attention of other patrons in the pub, with many beginning to cheer them on from the sidelines.
“Don’t lose to that masked stranger who appeared out of nowhere, Kamil! You’re the legendary King of Kings when it comes to drinking, never getting drunk!”
“No way! Don’t underestimate our rising dark horse, the Masked Wine Knight! Drink her under the table! Let us witness the coronation of a new king after the old era’s demise! Masked Wine Knight!”
The bystanders supporting Eve and Kamil divided into two factions, both quite numerous, and the scene quickly descended into chaos.
*Thud—*
In the end, Kamil, unable to contend with Eve’s seemingly bottomless stomach, collapsed, ‘vomiting rainbows’.
Eve, meanwhile, merely wiped the corner of her mouth with a casual gesture, then retrieved a gold coin from her bracelet and placed it on the table.
“Proprietor, the bill.”
Her movements were fluid and composed, reflecting the ease of a victor. She didn’t even glance back at Kamil, who lay sprawled on the table, as if this triumph had been anticipated all along.
‘What incredible confidence and swagger!’
Instantly, the cheers from Eve’s supporters erupted with renewed vigor!
That day, the title “Masked Wine Knight” echoed through the street pub, leaving behind a new, immortal legend!
But that, of course, was a story for another time.
As the saying goes, the cooler one acts in public, the more pathetic the cleanup behind the scenes.
On the way out of the pub, Eve carried the continuously ‘vomiting rainbows’ Kamil on her back, her eyebrow twitching uncontrollably.
Although Eve had used Divine Light to heal Kamil, who was still on her back, the sheer amount of alcohol the woman had consumed meant she periodically ‘vomited rainbows’.
This, naturally, made things rather difficult for Eve, who was carrying Kamil.
Her clothes, already torn by Anna and not yet replaced, were now stained by Kamil’s rainbow-colored vomit. ‘What sin had this outfit committed to deserve such a fate!’
Beside her, Fionn, who had already shouldered the coffin and begun her duties, pointed to a closed shop ahead. “Roly, that’s Sister Kamil’s potion shop up there.”
“Mm, alright, I see it.”
Eve nodded.
Upon leaving the pub, Eve and her companions had split ways with Sister Yulim. Yulim had taken Anna back, while Eve and Fionn were tasked with escorting Kamil to her potion shop.
This seemingly reasonable arrangement was, in fact, merely a ploy to send Yulim away, allowing them to proceed with their next plan unimpeded.
