Chapter 50: An Unexpected Alliance and Startling Revelations

Unlike Yulim, who always prepared meticulously and had countless contingencies when venturing out, Anna’s less-than-brilliant mind failed to consider such intricate details.

“Oh dear, Luosha, I’m so sorry. I was so preoccupied with saving you that I completely forgot to catch your coffin as well.”

“It didn’t break when it fell, did it?”

“If, if it’s broken… I… I…”

Anna gritted her teeth, then, with a pained expression, declared, “I can pay for it!”

Yulim, hearing this, buried her head in her hands, a wave of distress washing over her.

‘This is bad. There wasn’t even a trap to begin with, but Sister Anna just dug one for herself…’

‘How could the kind rescuer possibly end up compensating the person they just saved?’

‘Seriously, Sister Anna, where is the logic in that?’

‘But Sister Anna’s words were already out there. I could only hope this masked individual, who looked suspiciously like a villain, wouldn’t demand an exorbitant sum…’

‘They barely had enough money in their pockets for food as it was…’

‘Yet, that coffin looked incredibly expensive…’

‘Even if they returned to Xielan and submitted their completed quest, the commission they’d receive would likely only just cover the cost…’

‘Now, it seemed, they would likely be returning to the days of foraging for roadside leaves with Sister Anna to stave off hunger for the next few days…’

‘The future stretched before them, utterly bleak.’

If not for the onlookers, Yulim would have truly loved to squat back down and pitifully draw circles in a corner.

Eve observed the two girls, each with a distinct expression, and surmised they were likely overthinking about her coffin once more. After all, she had grown quite accustomed to such curious gazes.

Shaking her head, Eve gently ran her hand over the coffin lid, which was utterly devoid of scratches. “It’s quite alright,” she said with a smile. “Don’t underestimate this coffin; its material is actually incredibly durable.”

Upon hearing this, Anna immediately let out a sigh of relief. “Is that so? That’s truly wonderful!”

Beside her, Yulim’s spirits visibly lifted. She bobbed her head up and down, an obvious sign of her profound relief and joy.

“Oh, right, Anna, what was it you wanted to ask me earlier?”

As Eve hoisted the coffin onto her back, she asked, her curiosity piqued, about the question Anna hadn’t had a chance to voice earlier.

Once Anna realized she wouldn’t have to pay for the coffin, her demeanor became even more effusive. “Oh, right! Before, I was just wondering, Luosha, how did you end up coming to the Elf Forest all alone, only to be found hanging from a tree?”

Yulim, too, discreetly cast her gaze in their direction.

“Well… that’s a long story.”

Eve briefly recounted her unfortunate encounter. Upon hearing it, Anna felt a distinct sense of camaraderie, as if they shared the same plight.

‘So, it turns out I’m not the only one with no sense of direction in this world!’

‘The three of them had all come together simply because they were lost!’

‘Even though Yulim only got lost by following her, it was a minor detail.’

Upon discovering that Xielan had also been Eve’s original destination, Anna slapped her thigh in excitement.

‘What a coincidence, wouldn’t you say? She and Yulim were also planning to return to Xielan!’

Without hesitation, she extended an invitation to Eve to travel with them to Xielan.

[Anna Tiabruns invites you to join their traveling party]

Eve pondered for a moment before deciding to accept the invitation.

While it was a shame not to have encountered any elven maidens and forged bonds, the Elf Forest itself had left an abysmal first impression. She had barely stepped inside before falling into a trap and being strung up like cured meat for an entire week. Anyone who wished to remain in this wretched place was welcome to it.

Moreover, a party of four didn’t exceed any typical size limits, so traveling back to Xielan together certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Just like that, Eve formally joined Anna’s small party.

In this very moment, Anna recalled a storybook she had once read in the royal capital.

It was titled something like “Three Acts,” if she remembered correctly.

She’d forgotten the beginning and the end, but she vividly remembered the middle section: three individuals, united by shared ambitions and goals, had sworn an oath of brotherhood together in a forest.

As a child, watching that particular episode had moved Anna to tears, causing her to use an entire pack of tissues. She had fantasized that when she eventually left her family to embark on her own adventures, she would also swear an oath of camaraderie with the companions she met along the way!

Let the Goddess witness the bonds they forged!

And now, upon reflection, wasn’t this precisely such an opportunity?

Daylight, a small grove, three individuals!

The perfect timing! The ideal location! The right people!

All three crucial elements were aligned!

Even though they were all girls, that shouldn’t hinder them from becoming sworn sisters, should it?

Anna was utterly overcome with excitement!

Meanwhile, Eve was entirely unaware of the blue-haired maiden’s internal frenzy. She was currently staring at a system notification, a bewildered expression on her face.

[Successfully joined traveling party]

[Your current traveling party: Brainless and Grumpy (4 members)]

[Current traveling party attribute bonus: All attributes +9]

“What?!”

The instant she saw the system notification, Eve was utterly stunned.

‘The attribute bonus didn’t drop??’

Eve had initially assumed that Anna and Yulim, as a duo, were both human and thus of the same race.

She had expected that after her addition, they wouldn’t receive the extra attribute bonus for having different races in the party, and the bonus would likely drop to four points.

But, to her utter surprise…

These two maidens weren’t human either!

‘Indeed. Considering Anna’s swordsmanship from earlier, could a mere human truly execute such moves?’

A surge of curiosity about their races prompted Eve to ‘poke’ the seemingly dormant system, requesting it to display their racial information.

[Anna Tiabruns (Lv.61)]

[Gender: Female]

[Race: Human (Ragnarok Faction)]

[Status: Healthy]

‘Human?’

Eve froze, utterly bewildered. Had she actually guessed wrong?

‘So, the only one not human is Yulim?’

Eve turned her gaze toward the hooded girl standing nearby.

[Yulim Wilivia (Lv.58)]

[Gender: Female]

[Race: Dark Elf (Demon Lord’s Army Faction)]

[Status: Hungry]

Eve: “What?!”

‘Holy moly! This one is an even bigger deal!’

‘I’ve fantasized about elven maidens for so long, yet I never expected one to be right by my side?! And Yulim isn’t just a Dark Elf! She’s also, confound it, in the same Demon Lord’s Army faction as me?!’

‘Wait a minute… what was Anna’s faction again?’

Eve had only just skimmed Anna’s race, subconsciously overlooking the faction information that followed.

She quickly scrolled back to take another look. The sight of the word “Gods” sent an even stronger shiver down her spine.

Eve knew that the world of Summoning Gods truly harbored actual deities!

She was, at this very moment, being watched by a certain Goddess!

‘So, the meaning of Ragnarok…’

‘It couldn’t possibly be what I think it means, could it…’

‘People from this faction want to… commit deicide?’

Such an absurd and chilling thought, terrifying upon closer inspection, arose in Eve’s mind.

‘When put into perspective, their Demon Lord’s Army faction suddenly felt a bit like playing house!’

‘And speaking of which, how on earth did these two even manage to come together and form a party?!’

Eve remained stunned for a considerable time by the cascade of information she had just uncovered through the system. It was only then that she noticed a certain blue-haired maiden, who had, at some point, approached her with a suspicious, almost mischievous, glint in her eyes.

“Wait, Anna, why are you suddenly so close?”

“Hehehe… Sister Luosha, I was thinking, our experiences are so remarkably similar, why don’t we just become sworn sisters together?”

“Huh???”
