X
‘Sleeping? That’s impossible.’
‘Who could possibly sleep at a time like this?’
‘Show some ambition!’
The three-year pact was still looming, and she would never willingly submit to Alice’s domineering presence indefinitely!
She! Eve! Must grow stronger!
She would turn the tables and become the master!
She would be a super top-tier attacker! (Or so she mused.)
With this resolve, Eve found an excuse to tell Xien about her supposed “slumber.”
After all, Eve had promised Alice she would wait three years. If she simply vanished, Alice would inevitably return, and a simple inquiry to Xien would reveal whether Eve had remained in Yarokan City during that time.
After careful consideration, Eve concocted a plausible story.
Was there anything wrong with a minor undead falling into slumber? Absolutely not.
To outsiders, she would merely appear to have slept peacefully for three years.
Xien harbored no doubts about Eve’s words. In his eyes, Eve was a mysterious and formidable entity, and it seemed perfectly logical for such a being to enter a special slumber to transcend the river of time!
Thus, after bidding farewell to Xien, Eve effortlessly departed the territory surrounding Yarokan City, making her way towards the cemetery on the outskirts.
Even a slight proximity revealed an overwhelming surge of sacred aura.
While this sacred energy might pose little threat to ordinary mortals, for an undead creature like Eve, the cemetery transformed from a peaceful haven into a veritable purgatory.
Eve’s professional talent, [Heavenly Harmony], which granted her immunity to holy light, only activated during the day. At night, her inherent weaknesses were no different from any common undead.
However, Eve had not come to the cemetery to sleep.
“You can come out now, Wennya.”
As if a corner of the wind had been gently lifted, Eve’s bangs swayed, and a beam of golden light shot forth, landing beside her.
“Ta-da! Wennya, making her grand entrance!”
The lively little maid, Wennya, struck a pose, raising both hands as if performing a disappearing act, an undeniably adorable sight.
Eve smiled, reaching out to gently ruffle the little maid’s hair. “Wenya, our adventure is about to begin. Are you scared?”
The little maid, Wennya, narrowed her eyes in pure delight. “With Miss Eve, Wennya isn’t scared at all! Please don’t worry, Miss Eve! Wennya will become the power you are most proud of!”
“Mhm, I believe you will, Wennya.”
Eve nodded, giving Wennya’s hair another vigorous ruffle before reaching for the bracelet on her wrist.
The bracelet was a wondrous gift Alice had given her, possessing storage capabilities. Eve had packed numerous items for her journey, all safely tucked away within it.
Even though Alice herself wasn’t accompanying her, the bracelet symbolized the bond between them. With this connection, if one were to round up slightly, wouldn’t it almost be as if Alice had traveled with her? (Alice: “6”)
Ahem… well, that line of reasoning was perhaps a bit too shameless…
If the opportunity ever arose, she would surely make it up to Alice by traveling with her in person.
Eve retrieved her coffin from the bracelet and hoisted it onto her back.
While she had resolved to embark on a journey to another world, carrying her coffin offered the most secure option from a safety perspective. Should she be attacked, she could immediately retreat inside.
It was a pity Eve hadn’t yet reached level 20 to unlock her skills; otherwise, she would have wanted Wennya to lie in the coffin as a backup.
After her job advancement and level-up, Eve’s three core attributes had significantly improved. This wasn’t merely a numerical adjustment; physically, the most striking change was her greatly increased strength.
Previously, merely lifting her coffin would have strained her back, but now Eve felt confident she could carry it and run a lap around the cemetery without issue.
To the unsuspecting Wennya, however, Eve carrying a coffin struck her as a rather baffling human behavior.
“Miss Eve, what is that…?”
“Oh, this? It’s my coffin.”
“No… no, Miss Eve, Wennya doesn’t understand. Why are you carrying this coffin?”
Eve responded with a mysterious smile. “Hmph, hmph, this is your master’s secret weapon! The strongest shield in the world!”
“The strongest… shield?”
Wenya repeated the phrase, her beautiful eyes sparkling with excitement. “Wenya understands! Is it the legendary Shield of Palangsini, capable of defending against all attacks? To think Miss Eve actually obtained such a divine artifact! And even crafted it into a coffin! Truly worthy of Miss Eve!”
Eve: ?
‘Wait… what are you even talking about? I don’t understand.’
‘Besides, who would idly transform a divine artifact into a coffin?!’
‘Are you saying that in your eyes, Wennya, I’m some kind of omnipotent superhero?!’
Eve’s mouth twitched slightly as she corrected her. “No, no, Wennya, you’ve misunderstood. ‘Strongest shield’ was merely my description; it doesn’t mean I actually obtained some ‘Pa-something’ shield…”
“Ohh, then Miss Eve is still amazing! To make a coffin as sturdy as a legendary shield!”
Even so, the adoration in Wennya’s eyes remained undiminished.
She had not personally tested whether the coffin was truly as Eve claimed, yet she offered her unconditional trust.
Fortunately, Wennya at least grasped the coffin’s importance. As for the precise nature of her understanding, that remained a mystery.
Eve then retrieved a mask from her bracelet and affixed it to her face.
With this final precaution taken, she was entirely free of worries.
Eve crossed her arms over her chest, proudly declaring her new identity: “Alright, from this moment on, I shall be Rakshasa, a novice holy practitioner capable of wielding holy light!”
“Wenya, if there are outsiders present later, do not appear casually, to avoid revealing your identity.”
Wenya nodded obediently. “Miss Rakshasa, then… Understood! Wennya knows!”
“Then, Miss Eve, where are we going next?”
Wenya claimed to understand, yet in her very next sentence, her address unconsciously reverted to “Miss Eve.”
Eve didn’t mind, however. It was late at night, and they were the only two present, so a mistaken address was irrelevant.
Eve waved her hand, and a rolled map appeared in her grasp, which she then pointed southward.
“Our first stop is Sherland, the city with the most adventurer guilds!”
“But before that, we must make a trip to the Sigrili Grasslands to hunt slimes and raise our level to 20!”
According to information Eve had overheard from other adventurer-travelers while eating fries at Mama Ham’s Tavern previously, it seemed that recently, for unknown reasons, demonic beasts were surging back, beginning to proliferate everywhere.
The Sigrili Grasslands, in particular, had seen a massive influx of slimes. These creatures attacked passing caravans, devouring their horses, food, and even the clothes off people’s backs.
They had already inflicted immense losses!
Moreover, some caravans even claimed to have encountered a formidable Slime King on the grasslands!
The Adventurers’ Guild had already begun issuing quests related to slimes, arranging for adventurers to go and subjugate these monsters.
In terms of safety, mere slimes—the lowest-ranked monsters in the game—should pose no threat. Eve felt it would be perfectly fine to join the fray and enjoy the excitement!
