Join the ServerEarly the next morning, Eve’s healthy biological clock roused her naturally at the appointed time.
Beside her, the Demon Lord Lu was still deep in slumber.
However…
Eve gently pried away the small hand that had latched onto her sleeping bag, then sat up. She gazed helplessly at the silver-haired girl who, at some point, had wriggled over to her side like a caterpillar.
During the day, she was such a graceful and well-behaved girl. Yet, in her sleep, she transformed into this utterly adorable, clumsy mess…
In stark contrast, the lively Anna slept as peacefully as if she were laid out for burial.
Could it be that the more energetic someone was normally, the more docile they became in sleep? And conversely, the quieter ones became restless sleepers?
‘A study in contrasts,’ perhaps?
Without disturbing the sleeping silver-haired girl beside her, Eve slipped out of her sleeping bag. She stretched, easing the stiffness from her muscles.
She then changed out of her pajamas, donning the white rabbit hoodie Fionn had chosen for her yesterday afternoon.
With the hood pulled up, the two fluffy white rabbit ears drooped charmingly backward, resembling natural twin pigtails. It was undeniably cute.
The hoodie’s hem was wide and expansive, almost like a skirt. Its accompanying pink and white shorts left her fair legs completely exposed.
Gazing at the soft, vibrant, and utterly adorable girl reflected in the mirror, Eve felt less like an adventurer and more like a primary school student about to embark on a picnic.
‘I suddenly feel like being vain…’
Propping the mirror on the doorknob, Eve raised her two small ‘paws,’ mimicking an ‘ultra-fierce’ pose. She then ‘intimidated’ her reflection.
“Owoo~”
It wasn’t fierce at all; it was incredibly adorable.
‘Damn it! My maiden heart is about to explode!’
‘How can there be such a cute girl in this world? And that girl is me!’
Eve covered her face, contorting herself like a worm in front of the mirror, completely abandoning all semblance of grace.
Cough, cough… pull it together, pull it together.
Eve quickly reined in her unusual emotions. After all, making too much noise might accidentally wake Fionn prematurely, which would be a glorious death indeed.
Putting the mirror away, and after a final glance at the Demon Lord Lu, who was still nestled in her sleeping bag, Eve quietly opened the door and slipped out of the cubicle.
****
The weather today was not ideal. There were far more dark clouds than yesterday, suggesting rain would likely fall soon.
Based on Eve’s understanding of Yulim, the hooded girl should have been awake by now.
Eve was pondering whether to go visit her.
Suddenly, the world split into red and white. A bolt of lightning struck the stable, followed immediately by a deafening clap of thunder that exploded in her ears.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, Eve’s face contorted in shock.
‘Holy crap!’
‘The cubicle where she was sleeping just got struck by lightning!’
‘Wait, Fionn is still inside!’
Eve hastily rushed back to her cubicle, intending to check on Fionn. But as she pushed the door open and stepped inside, a striking red system prompt appeared.
[You have entered the Demon Lord’s City area.]
Eve: ????
‘Wait a minute… what in the world?’
‘Demon Lord’s City!?’
Eve stared blankly at the silver-haired girl inside the cubicle, who was completely unaffected, merely groggily turning over to continue sleeping.
Then, Eve looked up at the stable cubicle, which appeared utterly unchanged.
A giant question mark seemed to hover above her head.
Upon exiting the cubicle again, another incredibly conspicuous red system prompt popped up.
[You have left the Demon Lord’s City area.]
Eve: 囧
At that moment, an utterly preposterous thought suddenly sparked in her mind.
‘Could it be that their Demon Lord Lu simply slept here for a night, and then this place directly transformed into her Demon Lord’s City home base?!’
Eve closed the cubicle door and retreated several steps, putting enough distance between herself and it to gain a full view. She then looked again at where the cubicle had originally stood.
And then, the outrageous reality unfolded.
In Eve’s eyes, the cubicle, despite being struck by lightning, showed no damage whatsoever. Instead, it exuded a crimson mist, causing everything around it to appear ethereal.
Unseen, the entire stable cubicle’s ambiance had become sinister and terrifying, imbued with an intense sense of oppression.
Dark clouds continued to gather in the sky, occasionally sparking with dark red lightning arcs. In the distance, several black crows soared and circled above the area, emitting mournful cries.
‘This must be it…’
‘This is the Demon Lord’s City…’
Eve had no choice but to accept the fact that the stable they had moved into less than a day ago had already become the Demon Lord’s City base.
To be fair, the atmosphere of an evil lair was perfectly captured. However… the architecture of the place was all wrong. There was no magnificent, grand castle, only a stable cubicle as small as a wealthy family’s restroom…
‘No, this Demon Lord’s City has absolutely no gravitas at all! (Great sorrow)’
Just imagine, what if a hero, clad in gleaming, splendid full armor, accompanied by a team of battle-hardened professional heroes, arrived fully prepared for an epic three-hundred-round final battle in the Demon Lord’s City?
Only to find that the Demon Lord’s City was as shabby as a slum…
How would that hero feel then?
‘They would definitely suspect they had come to the wrong place!’
Eve removed the mask from the cubicle, saw the ‘Heart-Cleansing Reform’ prompt, and then understood why the Demon Lord’s City seemed so pathetic – it was merely a counterfeit.
Eve re-entered the cubicle. After seeing the familiar striking prompt again, she couldn’t help but ask inwardly, ‘System, why do only prompts appear? Don’t I, a small undead of the Demon Lord’s army, get any buffs in the Demon Lord’s City?’
[Demon Lord’s City buffs are only for Demon Lord units.]
[Characters of the Demon Lord’s Army faction can accept region-specific side quests in the Demon Lord’s City area.]
‘Limited quests? Why aren’t there any red dot notifications for me?’
[Based on multiple player feedback, emergency maintenance was conducted overnight. This update changed the quest interface; pending quests will no longer be marked with red notifications.]
Eve: ‘…System, your optimization is truly ‘timely’ indeed!’
[Maintenance compensation has been sent to the player’s mailbox.]
‘Long live the System! I am System-chan’s loyal dog! Please, by all means, update more often in the future!’
Upon hearing about maintenance compensation, Eve’s attitude instantly performed a complete 180-degree turn.
It’s common knowledge that in any game, the best welfare isn’t during anniversary events, but rather the compensation received after every game update and maintenance!
As players, there was nothing to do; simply log in and claim. There wasn’t even a need for continuous logins or thrilling daily check-ins.
Even if the compensation was meager, like a ‘mosquito’s leg,’ frequent updates and maintenance would accumulate into a rich feast over time!
Full of anticipation, Eve navigated to the game mailbox in the system interface and clicked it open.
[Compensation reward received: Gold Coins]
Seeing the brief system message, Eve’s smile froze on her face.
She waited for a while, but no other prompts appeared.
‘That’s… it?’
The system remained silent, and the world grew quiet.
Eve: ‘…’
