Those who knew her well understood that when Tian Lanxing was like this, someone was about to be in serious trouble.
“You know, a Void disaster at the level of Skyfire carries a special radiation.”
Qin Lan recalled the horror of that time.
The sky had burned to a dark red. The air was thick with the smell of scorched flesh.
An ordinary person would have their mind shattered just by touching a trace of that radiation. They would become madmen who only bit and tore at their own kind. But later, GSA’s research confirmed that this radiation wasn’t permanent damage. It was temporary. The infected would recover on their own after a certain period. It was hardly an incurable disease. Moreover, the infected became physically weak and could be subdued with conventional force. As long as they didn’t cause open wounds, there was almost no risk of infection.
“Of course, all this was concluded afterward. At the time, the Central Brain knew nothing. The real key was that the GSA Central Brain AI had already taken full control of the entire city’s defense system. That machine detected the radiation was contagious, but the medical department hadn’t yet developed a response, let alone known that the infection would fade on its own.
“The disaster struck too fast. One moment it was a peaceful day, the next it was a sea of fire. Everything happened without warning.”
“So the system made a decision that was absolutely rational and absolutely cold-blooded. If the passages were opened to let civilians into the underground shelters, it would cause a massive cross-infection inside, leading to uncontrollable chaos.”
Hua Mu’ai frowned deeply.
At that time, beneath Starlight City was a “Deep Evacuation Network” that cost hundreds of millions to build. It was a massive underground high-speed rail system for emergency evacuation.
If the civilians could get in, they would have a good chance of survival.
“So…” Hua Mu’ai’s violet eyes gleamed coldly. “The entrances to the evacuation network were never opened?”
“But if they weren’t opened, the death toll would be far more than the official numbers!”
“Yes, the doors weren’t opened.”
Qin Lan’s voice was icy.
“The Central Brain was a machine. It only looked at data. It didn’t understand what human lives meant. It locked down all evacuation routes.”
“According to GSA’s emergency protocols, there was only one way to override the Central Brain’s deadlock.”
“Three high-ranking members of the Star Track faction stationed in Starlight City had to simultaneously insert their biometric keys for the highest-level mandatory authorization.”
Hearing this, Hua Mu’ai narrowed her eyes.
She knew all too well what kind of people the Star Track faction’s higher-ups were.
A bunch of cowards who only cared about power and profit!
The Star Track faction was a special clique within GSA. Its members were large capital conglomerates that bought their way into GSA’s core circle. They followed the principle of profit above all else, earning the disgust and hatred of other GSA factions. But the Star Track faction held too much power, and even though other factions were dissatisfied, they couldn’t compete.
Back when Hua Mu’ai clashed with the Star Track faction, she had intended to wipe them out, but the special phantom pain caused by Skyfire had stripped her of her transformation ability, and Tian Lanxing had disappeared. When Gu Qing regained her transformation ability, she planned to take revenge on the Star Track faction, only to find that Hua Mu’ai had lost her power. Now that Yuena’s mental energy was abundant, Hua Mu’ai could freely use Tian Lanxing’s power. This time, she would not let the culprits escape.
“Hah…” Hua Mu’ai let out a cold laugh. “They didn’t authorize, did they?”
“They ran.”
Qin Lan stubbed out her cigarette on the railing.
“The moment Skyfire broke through the outer defense line, those three bastards had already fled in their private jets!”
Hua Mu’ai’s mind filled with horrifying images.
Civilians trapped on streets like a hellscape, behind them a tide of Void beasts surging forward, above them the skyfire burning everything.
People pounded desperately on the air-raid doors. Cries, screams, and desperate shouts mingled together until they were torn apart by monsters.
“What really happened with Wanning?” Hua Mu’ai’s eyes were red. “Why did she take the blame? She went there to save people!”
Qin Lan replied, “Wanning was fighting on the front lines, buying them time to evacuate. But when she turned around, she found all the civilians blocked in the streets. The doors were never opened!”
Qin Lan looked at Hua Mu’ai, her voice trembling.
“You remember Wanning’s talent, right?”
How could Hua Mu’ai forget? It was her wife’s power.
Su Wanning’s talent was “Electronic Insight.”
By touching any electronic device, she could forcibly read its underlying code and convert it into understandable logic in her mind.
Even more astonishingly, she could directly intervene with her mental energy and rewrite the code’s logic. However, depending on the code’s security level and permission barriers, the mental energy required would multiply accordingly.
“Wanning rushed to a main gate.”
Qin Lan seemed to see the girl again, covered in blood but still radiant.
“She activated Electronic Insight, forcibly connected to the Central Brain’s control panel, and read its judgment log. She learned that the doors were locked because the higher-ups hadn’t authorized it.”
“At that time, all regular communications were down. Wanning used Electronic Insight to hack directly into the military’s highest encrypted channel. She locked onto the communication signals of those three higher-ups.”
Qin Lan paused. A tear finally slipped down.
“She contacted them. On their fleeing plane.”
Hua Mu’ai’s breath caught. Her heart ached so much she couldn’t breathe.
She could picture it.
Wanning stood on a street of corpses and blood, surrounded by burning ruins.
She screamed at the higher-ups on the communicator, demanding to know why they had abandoned the city.
“Wanning demanded they come back immediately and authorize the doors to open.”
Qin Lan let out a bitter laugh.
“But those three beasts refused. They realized something that was extremely fatal to them. Su Wanning, this disobedient magical girl, knew about their desertion scandal! If Su Wanning survived and exposed this, the entire Star Track faction would face destruction. They would be court-martialed. They would be despised by all of humanity. They would lose all their power and status!”
Hua Mu’ai lowered her head, her pink hair covering her expression. Her voice was devoid of any warmth.
“So they wanted to kill Wanning.”
“Yes.” Qin Lan closed her eyes, pain on her face. “They even hinted to the nearby military police to find a chance to take out this disobedient magical girl.”
“But Wanning didn’t give them that chance. She was too smart. She knew she couldn’t count on those people.”
