Chapter 91: The Accusation

She had already been to the bathroom twice this morning, and now once more. Hua Mu’ai felt like she was about to collapse.

She walked to the sink, cupped some cold water, and splashed it on her face, trying to clear her head.

Just then, Wang Kaiming burst into the women’s restroom, sweating profusely.

“Lady Tian Lanxing! Something terrible has happened!”

Hua Mu’ai was startled and glared at the uninvited guest.

“What’s the panic? Did that girl Chu Yuyao fail her promotion? Impossible. With her performance just now, I don’t believe she could lose.”

“She did promote, but the situation is a hundred times worse than failure!”

Wang Kaiming slapped his thigh in desperation. “Chu Yuyao is being accused of plagiarism across the entire internet! The trending topic exploded. The audience at the scene went crazy, all cursing her. We can’t control it at all! The security guards are barely holding up!”

“What did you say?”

Hua Mu’ai’s purple eyes narrowed instantly.

Wang Kaiming quickly handed over his phone.

“See for yourself. The comparison videos and song registration timestamps have been posted online.”

Hua Mu’ai snatched the phone.

Looking at the solid evidence and the barrage of insults, the warmth in her eyes dropped to freezing point.

“Smack!”

She smashed Wang Kaiming’s phone.

“Bullshit!” Hua Mu’ai shouted. “That quiet girl Chu Yuayao wouldn’t even dare to speak loudly to others. When someone bullies her, she just hides in a corner and cries. And you tell me she had the guts to plagiarize someone else’s song?”

“Someone must be behind this!”

Hua Mu’ai strode out, her steps no longer weak.

“Where is Chu Yuyao?”

“No idea!”

Wang Kaiming, not caring about his phone, ran after her.

“She ran off stage just now. The staff couldn’t stop her! They saw her dash out of the base gate and onto the street!”

Hua Mu’ai felt a sense of dread.

That girl had always been extremely insecure. She had finally built up a little confidence, and now the whole internet was attacking her. She might do something irreversible out of despair!

She couldn’t let her be alone!

“Yuena! Stop sleeping! Get up and work!”

Hua Mu’ai called out loudly in her mind.

Deep in her consciousness, the fairy princess Yuena turned over.

“What now? I only just fell asleep a moment ago.”

“No time for that! Switch my form back to Tian Lanxing immediately, with full strength!”

On opening day, Yuena had absorbed heart energy when Tian Lanxing appeared, but not much, so the transformation couldn’t last long. Today, she absorbed a lot of star energy, but hadn’t digested it yet.

“Fine, you’re impossible.”

Yuena grumbled, but acted quickly.

Tian Lanxing reappeared. With a light tap of her toe, she transformed into a blue streak of light, shattered the glass window at the end, and soared into the sky.

Her heart was pounding with anxiety.

She knew Yuyao too well.

That girl was a coward. When someone took her seat at the internet cafe, she wouldn’t even speak up.

She had finally gathered the courage to sing her heart out, and now she was being labeled a plagiarist.

For a girl who saw music as her life and Tian Lanxing as her faith, this was crueler than death.

“Yuyao, you idiot, don’t do anything stupid!”

In the apartment.

The food on the table had long gone cold. Xia Xingyan, Gu Qianqian, and Lin Xiaolu sat around the table, none of them in the mood to pick up their chopsticks.

Thunder rumbled outside the window, and rain hammered against the glass with a loud patter.

The weather was like bad luck, as if purposely set to match their miserable outcome.

The balcony door slid open, and Shen Tinglan walked in, holding her phone.

“Captain just messaged me. She won’t be back for a while until she finds Chu Yuyao.”

“It’s been almost five hours since it happened,” Gu Qianqian said, her voice tight. “Sister Chu’s phone has been off. It’s raining so hard outside. Where can she go alone? What if something happens to her…”

“Sister Chu will be fine,” Lin Xiaolu said softly, trying to comfort them.

Xia Xingyan said nothing. She suddenly stood up and walked toward the entrance.

Her face was cold, and her eyes were stubborn.

Shen Tinglan grabbed her shoulder.

“Let go. I’m going to help the captain.”

“Trust the captain. She will bring her back,” Shen Tinglan said seriously. “She is Tian Lanxing, after all.”

Shen Tinglan knew well that only her husband could unlock that child’s heart. She had always had absolute faith in her husband.

If these three went, they might cause more trouble than help.

They were at a standoff.

After a few seconds, Xia Xingyan shook off Shen Tinglan’s hand and sat back down.

In a park in the southern part of the city.

Chu Yuyao curled up on the cold stone bench inside a pavilion.

She was completely soaked. Her thin clothes clung to her body, and rainwater dripped down her pale cheeks.

She hugged her knees, trembling uncontrollably. She didn’t know how long she had been sitting there.

The wind blew the rain sideways into the pavilion, but she didn’t even have the awareness to move out of the way.

She pulled her phone from her wet pocket and pressed the power button.

Immediately, notifications kept popping up at the top of the screen.

Over 50 missed calls.

A red dot on the SMS icon showed “99+”.

Chu Yuyao opened her texts. Almost all were from unknown numbers.

“I’m a reporter from Linhai Entertainment Weekly. Do you have anything to say about the plagiarism accusation? Can we get an exclusive interview?”

“This is the PR department of Starflare Entertainment. Please call back immediately when you see this! Where did you run off to?”

As she scrolled further, the messages turned vicious.

“Plagiarist, why don’t you go die?”

“I hope you get hit by a car, you shameless b*tch.”

“Your parents must be cursed to have raised a thief like you.”

Chu Yuyao stopped breathing. She didn’t open any more messages.

When she opened Knock Knock, a friend request popped up with the nickname “Drink a Little Wine.”

Chu Yuyao knew it was Hua Mu’ai.

Hours earlier, she had escaped through the back door of the sports center and taken a taxi away from the scene.

The first thing she did in the car was open Knock Knock and delete Hua Mu’ai from her friends list.

Then, she added her phone number to the blacklist.

Her reasoning was simple and tragic.

Now, the whole world was accusing her of being a thief.

Lady Tian Lanxing must think she was disgusting.

She would rather disappear from the world forever than hear Hua Mu’ai curse at her.

She didn’t dare to open the friend request, afraid the verification message would be full of disgust.

Then, as if looking for a final verdict, she opened Weibo.

The top trending hashtag was “Chu Yuyao Plagiarism.”

Clicking on it, she saw comparison videos and audio track screenshots posted by marketing accounts.
