Chapter 13: What’s Wrong With an Accidental Touch?

The class dismiss bell cut through the classroom’s stillness, and outside the window, the plane trees rustled in the wind.

Su Yuan, as usual, pulled a manga from her backpack and spread it open on her desk, hoping to use it as a shield to hide her solitary figure during break.

This time, however, she wasn’t as alone as she had imagined.

She could feel someone watching her.

The owner of that gaze was right next to her—Bai Shimo.

“Su Yuan, what’s wrong?”

A gentle voice sounded above her head, carrying just the right amount of concern, interrupting Su Yuan’s tangled thoughts.

She jerked her head up and met a pair of amber eyes—clear and bright, as if filled with melted sunlight.

Bai Shimo had already walked over to her desk, carrying a faint, refreshing scent of jasmine.

“You looked a bit pale during class.

Are you feeling unwell?”

Bai Shimo leaned down slightly, her skirt swaying with the movement, revealing her slender, fair ankles.

Su Yuan opened her mouth but couldn’t form a single complete sentence.

She could only shake her head vigorously, her rose-red hair swaying with the motion, her eyes refusing to meet Bai Shimo’s.

“I see.”

Bai Shimo rested her fingertips lightly on the edge of Su Yuan’s desk.

“If you’re not feeling well, you can tell me.

I’m the class president—it’s my responsibility to look after every student in the class.”

Su Yuan still couldn’t speak, so she nodded emphatically.

She knew Bai Shimo genuinely wanted to care for her, but that concern felt like a thorn wrapped in warmth.

“Haha…”

A crisp laugh escaped Bai Shimo’s lips—a genuine, heartfelt laugh.

“Su Yuan, you’re really amusing.”

With that, Bai Shimo dragged her chair from the front row and placed it right next to Su Yuan’s seat.

She leaned forward slightly, lifting her head to look directly into Su Yuan’s eyes.

The distance between them instantly shrank—close enough for Su Yuan to count her long eyelashes.

“Su Yuan, it seems you’re not very good at communicating with people,” Bai Shimo said, lowering her voice.

“I have a little method that can help you gradually build confidence in socializing.

Would you like to try?”

Su Yuan pressed her lips together and let out a vague “O-okay…”

So gentle.

So kind.

Bai Shimo truly was the magical girl everyone adored.

If it weren’t for the fact that they were born as natural enemies, destined to stand on opposing sides—perhaps Su Yuan, too, could have genuinely liked this wonderful girl, just like the other students.

At that thought, Su Yuan’s feelings grew complicated.

“Then… let’s begin?”

Bai Shimo’s voice carried a hint of anticipation, breaking the brief silence.

Before Su Yuan could react, a pair of warm hands reached out and gently took hold of her hands, which had been resting on her lap.

Bai Shimo’s fingers were pale and slender, her skin slightly cool.

Their fingers inadvertently intertwined.

The sudden physical contact made Su Yuan’s entire body stiffen, as if she had been struck by a paralysis spell.

“The method is actually very simple.

First, hold hands with the other person, take a deep breath, then look into their eyes…”

Bai Shimo explained in a soft, soothing tone.

“Then, like this, relax…”

No, she couldn’t take much more.

Su Yuan’s mind was in chaos, her reason teetering on the brink of collapse.

Every time she saw Bai Shimo’s clear eyes, the images from that backstage encounter flooded uncontrollably into her mind—

Pinning Bai Shimo to the cold floor, the mix of pain and defiance on her face, and finally—after she had been “ruined”—her red-rimmed eyes and tearful voice.

Yet now, Bai Shimo was showing her kindness without any guard, even actively drawing closer…

Su Yuan’s conscience was in agony.

Just as her mind was in turmoil, Bai Shimo’s grip on her hands suddenly slipped.

Her body tilted forward slightly from the momentum, and her free hand landed—neither here nor there—on Su Yuan’s slender thigh, gliding gently over the smooth black stocking fabric.

“Buzz—”

The warmth and softness from that palm shot through her like an electric shock.

Su Yuan’s mind went completely blank, as if struck by a heavy blow.

“D-don’t touch me!”

The next second, an overwhelming wave of shame and panic washed over Su Yuan.

She instinctively pressed her legs together, her face flushing crimson, even tears welling at the corners of her eyes.

Bai Shimo froze as well.

She quickly withdrew her hand, a hint of embarrassment flickering across her face.

Her fingers curled slightly as she offered a soft apology: “Sorry, Su Yuan.

That was careless of me.

You don’t like physical contact, do you?”

Su Yuan was in no state to answer.

She felt like her head was about to explode.

That moment had been far too dangerous!

If she hadn’t been wearing black tights as a barrier, Bai Shimo’s hand would have come dangerously close to touching that bite mark—that secret magical imprint!

If that mark had been discovered, Su Yuan would have been done for!

Too dangerous.

She definitely couldn’t get close to Bai Shimo!

The thought screamed wildly through Su Yuan’s mind.

She could no longer maintain even a pretense of composure—she just wanted to escape this suffocating place.

“Su Yuan, I really am sorry…”

Bai Shimo was still trying to make amends, but Su Yuan no longer wanted to engage.

“D-don’t come near me!” she stammered, backing away slowly. “I… I prefer to be alone.”

With that, ignoring the stunned look on Bai Shimo’s face, Su Yuan shot to her feet, spun around, and fled the classroom as if her life depended on it.

In the corner of the classroom, Bai Shimo stood alone, staring blankly at her hastily retreating figure.

“Su Yuan?”

Bai Shimo looked down at her hands in bewilderment, still feeling the lingering sensation of touching Su Yuan’s legs.

It was only an accidental touch on the thigh—she couldn’t understand why Su Yuan was so afraid of her.

Did she… have something about her that was frightening?

But she was the magical girl who protected everyone’s smiles!

Television stations clamored to film her.

The Security Bureau treated her with utmost respect.

All her classmates loved to gather around her and longed to be close to her—

So why was Su Yuan the only one who resisted her so strongly?

Bai Shimo rested her chin on her hand, her brow slightly furrowed, utterly perplexed.

At the same time, a fierce competitive spirit was ignited within her.

“Ah… things haven’t been going well lately…”

She brushed her bangs aside with one hand and gazed out the window, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes.

First, she had been abandoned by the succubus she had finally met again after so long.

Now, she was being disliked by her new desk mate.

For someone like Bai Shimo, who always strived for perfection, this was absolutely unacceptable.
