Chapter 57: Please Devour Me, Miss Succubus

Sunflower stood frozen in place, her gaze fixed on the small puddle below.

The murky water rippled gently, holding her candy—now soaked, its wrapper already damp.

“Sister…”

She didn’t understand.

Why?

She had helped Sinor, made sure her sister saw that Molly wasn’t that perfect, all-powerful, flawless magical girl—that she too had weaknesses, that she too could fall into trouble.

And yet, even now, her sister’s gaze still clung to that person.

She wouldn’t even stop, wouldn’t turn around to look at her—the one who had always been by her side, trying so hard to comfort her.

Something twisted in her chest, sour and aching.

She wanted to call out to her sister, but her throat felt blocked.

The hand she had reached out slowly fell back to her side.

Confusion washed over her like a cold tide.

Did I… do something wrong?

Am I really a bad child?

If… if Sister ever found out that I helped that demon get into the academy, that I set this disaster in motion…

She’d be so disappointed in me.

She’d never talk to me again.

Slowly, stiffly, she turned her head to look at her teammates.

Thorn seemed unfazed by the little scene just now.

She still firmly believed Molly was indestructible, and she was in a relaxed mood—scrolling through a game stream on her phone, occasionally letting out a small laugh.

Azalea was also worried about Molly, but the exhaustion from the battle had clearly taken over.

The pink-haired girl yawned widely, rubbing her eyes, vaguely complaining to Thorn about how uncomfortable her pillow was and how she could never sleep well.

No one noticed Sunflower.

No—perhaps more accurately—

No one noticed the turmoil inside her, the wave of melancholy that was threatening to swallow her whole.

That familiar loneliness wrapped around her once more, pulling her already heavy heart even lower.

Sunflower had always been withdrawn, quiet, poor at expressing herself.

When she was sad, wronged, she always endured it alone.

She had lived with this feeling of being separated from the world by an invisible wall for over a decade.

She thought she had gotten used to it.

But every time she reached out carefully, only to be ignored or rejected without a second glance…

There was still a sharp pain, somewhere deep inside.

If only someone could see me.

Even just a scolding from Sister—”Stop it”—or a casual, teasing comment from a teammate—”Sunflower, what’s wrong?”…

Wait.

Maybe… she wasn’t completely alone.

A face appeared in her mind, unbidden.

Smooth, straight black hair.

A gentle, downcast face that always looked so obedient.

And those eyes that would listen seriously, looking right at you as you spoke.

Little Butterfly.

The server at the bar called “Zhaoxi.”

If she went there now… if she could see her…

Maybe she wouldn’t feel so alone, so abandoned in the cold rain.

The thought was like a faint light breaking through her gloomy heart.

Sunflower’s expression regained a trace of life.

Yes.

I’ll go to that bar.

Right now, she needed someone who would listen quietly—someone who wouldn’t dismiss her with “stay strong” or “don’t overthink it,” and someone who wouldn’t completely ignore her.

She finally stopped chasing after Lotus, turned to face the dense traffic, and looked for a taxi.

I hope Little Butterfly is working today.

***

The sky was painted in soft orange-pink, clouds like frozen cotton floating low above a still sea.

The world was bathed in an endless, amber sunset.

Su Yuan and Bai Shimo walked barefoot along the fine sand, side by side, leaving a trail of interwoven footsteps of varying depths.

“Too bad,” Su Yuan said softly, gazing at the eternal dusk where the sea met the sky, “this illusion world only ever has this evening twilight—no morning, no night… we can’t watch the stars together by the sea like we did three years ago.”

There was a hint of regret in her voice.

Her hand naturally linked with Bai Shimo’s, as if the gesture had been repeated a thousand times—as familiar as breathing.

Bai Shimo shook her head, turned, and smiled at her, the sunset reflected in her eyes.

“It doesn’t matter.

Honestly… as long as I’m with you, everything is beautiful.”

Hand in hand, they walked toward the mirror-like sea, as if it were sleeping.

The water was perfectly still—until the girl’s pale toes dipped into it.

With a soft splash, ripples spread outward, breaking the absolute silence.

“It really is a magical place,” Su Yuan said, watching the expanding rings of water.

Suddenly, a glint of mischief shone in her eyes.

While Bai Shimo was gazing into the distance, Su Yuan bent down quickly, cupped a handful of the clear (though illusory) seawater, and splashed it toward Bai Shimo.

Glittering droplets sprayed in the sunset light.

“Wahh!

Miss Succubus, you’re bullying me!”

Bai Shimo yelped, half her body instantly soaked.

Water beaded on her lashes and the tips of her hair.

But instead of being upset, she laughed—and immediately copied the gesture, bending down to scoop up water.

“Don’t think you can escape!

Since Miss Succubus launched the first ‘attack,’ you’ll have to take my ‘counterattack’!”

“Heh heh, we’ll see who wins!”

Su Yuan planted her hands on her hips, grinning triumphantly.

Before the words had faded, a splash of seawater hit her square in the face, drenching her from head to toe, making her sputter.

“No fair!

No sneak attacks!”

She laughed and bent down to retaliate.

But Bai Shimo was faster—another wave of water came right at her, and Su Yuan was soaked again, as if caught in a sudden downpour.

The two girls chased, laughed, and splashed each other in the shallows.

Their bright laughter broke the stillness of the world, breathing life into the frozen twilight.

Finally, breathless and exhausted, they stopped and sat down side by side on the damp sand.

Su Yuan’s flowing mermaid dress was completely soaked, clinging to her body and revealing every curve.

She was breathing lightly, her chest rising and falling.

A few strands of wet red hair clung to her flushed cheeks and neck.

As she tried to steady her breath, she noticed a gaze on her.

She turned to find that Bai Shimo wasn’t looking at the sea—she was watching her, her gaze tracing the contours of her body outlined by the wet fabric.

That was no innocent, pure girl’s gaze—it was laced with restrained desire.

The air between them grew warmer.

Bai Shimo seemed to realize her gaze had been noticed.

A faint blush spread across her cheeks, but she didn’t look away.

Instead, her eyes softened even more, like moonlight in water.

“Miss Succubus… is so beautiful… your body, your face… every part of you, I love.”

She turned over and moved closer to Su Yuan, as if wanting to take a closer look.

“I’ve heard that in the old days, succubi would extract mana from humans through breeding activities, draining them until death.

“Later, as relations between humans and demons improved, the succubi gave up that way of feeding and switched to absorbing emotional energy instead.

“Even though that made succubi one of the less harmful races to humans, it also greatly weakened their strength among the demons…”

Su Yuan listened quietly, and then felt a pair of soft, boneless arms wrap around her waist.

Bai Shimo’s head rested against her wet skin.

“Miss Succubus, you used up a lot of mana today for me, didn’t you?

Would you like to replenish it from me… using that primitive method?

“I’m a magical girl… I have plenty of mana.

I’m sure I can satisfy you.”
