Chapter 17: Miss Succubus Doesn’t Do That Kind of Service

Su Yuan took one final look at the strange yet familiar “pure” girl in the mirror, took a deep breath, and pushed open the door of her rented room.

Outside, the night was thick and impenetrable, the temperature lower than indoors, making her instinctively shrink back.

The evening breeze carried a chill, brushing against her legs and neck exposed outside her knitted cardigan, sending a faint shiver through her.

She didn’t head straight to her destination.

Years of caution had become second nature.

She took several detours—passing by brightly lit convenience stores, cutting through sparsely populated residential lanes.

Only after confirming that the persistent feeling of being followed was just her own nerves did she relax slightly and turn into a quiet alley leading to the bar district.

The alley was narrow, flanked by the weathered walls of old buildings, leaving only a strip of sky above dyed in ambiguous neon hues.

Music, laughter, the clink of glasses, and the complex mingled odors of food and alcohol surged toward her along with the increasingly bright lights.

The bar street wasn’t wide, but it was packed with people.

Su Yuan instinctively ducked her head, pulling her knitted cardigan tighter around her neck, keeping her gaze low, trying to minimize her presence.

After glancing around for a while, she finally spotted the words “Zhaoxi” at a relatively low-key corner of the street.

No overly loud music spilled from the entrance—it seemed quieter than the neighboring establishments.

Relatively speaking, at least.

She steadied herself, slipped quietly to the door, and carefully pushed it open.

A smooth, melodious saxophone melody flowed out to meet her.

Unlike the deafening clamor outside, the music inside “Zhaoxi” had an air of refined ambiance.

The lighting was a warm, ambiguous yellow—not too bright, just enough to define the space within.

Su Yuan quickly scanned the interior.

As she had heard before, this was a women-only bar.

The booths and scattered tables were occupied by beautiful older women.

Most wore exquisite makeup, stylish and sexy attire, their eyes carrying a mature allure tinged with a hint of loneliness.

She swallowed nervously, suppressing her anxiety, and found a server who was wiping glasses.

In a small voice, she explained that she was there to apply for a part-time job.

The server gave her a once-over, said nothing, and led her to a relatively quiet rest area near the kitchen.

The manager was a woman in her forties, with short hair, dressed in a crisp black shirt, colorful tattoo patterns visible on her arms and neck.

She was leaning against the table smoking.

At the sound of footsteps, she looked up and gave Su Yuan an appraising once-over, as if evaluating the value of a piece of merchandise.

“Mm, fine.”

The manager took a drag of her cigarette, slowly exhaled a gray-white ring of smoke, and nodded crisply.

“Start working.”

“Ah?

N-now?”

Su Yuan was a bit stunned—the process was faster than she had expected.

“Yes.”

The manager stubbed out her cigarette in the crystal ashtray on the table with a soft hiss.

“The guests at Table 12 ordered drinks—deliver them.”

She pointed to a half-open wardrobe in the corner.

“Maids’ uniforms are inside.

There should be your size.

Find one.

Change quickly.”

“B-but I just got here…” Su Yuan stood awkwardly, her fingers twisting the hem of her cardigan.

“I don’t know anything yet…”

“Doesn’t matter,” the manager said with a faint smirk.

“You still look like a student, don’t you?

The guests at that table… they like girls like you.”

Her gaze lingered on Su Yuan’s deliberately crafted “innocent and pure” face as she added meaningfully:

“Someone who doesn’t know how to do anything—for them, that might be just right.”

A chill ran down Su Yuan’s spine.

A bad feeling crept up her back.

The implication in those words made her instinctively uneasy.

But… the weakness in her mana reminded her that she had no time to hesitate or be picky.

She had finally found a place where she might be able to obtain energy—she couldn’t give up now.

“…I understand.”

She lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper.

Following the manager’s instructions, she walked to the wardrobe and picked out a maid uniform in what looked like the smallest size, changing into it hastily.

The bartender had already prepared the drinks for Table 12—four cocktails of varying colors, neatly arranged on a round tray.

Su Yuan picked up the heavy tray and shuffled toward the booth marked “12.”

As she drew closer, she finally got a clear view of the booth’s occupants—and instantly understood why the manager had “specially” assigned this table to her.

Three women sat in the booth.

They were entirely different from the other sexy, alluring patrons in the bar.

All three wore conservative black long dresses that covered their bodies completely, exuding an almost ascetic air.

They sat quietly, not speaking, simply sipping the drinks they had ordered earlier at a leisurely pace.

They didn’t look like regular bar-goers out for fun—more like members of some secret gathering.

Su Yuan’s heart sank.

A wave of foreboding washed over her.

She steeled herself, carefully placed the tray on the low table at the center of the booth, and began stiffly setting the four cocktails before the guests.

“Table Twelve, y-your drinks…”

She kept her head down, her voice barely audible.

Just as she was setting down the last glass—”Night Mist”—and her fingertips were about to leave the cool glass—

An achingly familiar scent entered her perception without warning.

The woman seated on the outermost side, tall and straight in her black dress, suddenly reached out and grabbed Su Yuan’s slender wrist!

“Ah!”

Su Yuan gasped, caught completely off guard, and was yanked forward with startling force!

The world spun—and she stumbled into the soft booth, nearly half-falling onto the black-dressed woman’s lap!

“W-Wait!”

Su Yuan was terrified.

Her wrist hurt from the grip.

She struggled to get up, babbling frantically: “Miss!

I’m just a server!

I-I only deliver drinks!

I don’t do hostessing!

Really, I don’t!”

“Hostessing”—bar slang for “special” attendants who, beyond drinking and chatting, were also expected to engage in more intimate physical contact with guests.

“Don’t do hostessing?”

The black-dressed woman holding her let out a low, husky laugh.

“A succubus… comes to a place like this playing innocent, and claims she doesn’t ‘hostess’?”

Buzz—!

A thunderclap seemed to explode in Su Yuan’s head.

Every hair on her body stood on end in that instant!

Blood rushed to her head, then drained away just as quickly, leaving an icy chill behind.

These women—were demons!

And of a high rank, with keen senses—her own kind!

That strange familiarity earlier… yes!

It was the fluctuation of same-origin mana!

It was just that their auras were deeper, more obscure, carrying a powerful oppressive force—so much so that Su Yuan hadn’t been able to identify them immediately!

“Perfect timing—I’ve been looking for you too,” the black-dressed woman said, taking another drag of her cigarette.

Her hand remained on Su Yuan’s shoulder with no intention of letting go.

“I didn’t expect to run into you here.

Miss Su, you’re the child Goria took in, aren’t you?”

“Wh-who are you?”

Su Yuan’s face was deathly pale, her body rigid as she stared blankly.

“Me?”

The woman smiled.

“Sinor.”

“I’m Goria’s ex-wife—one of them.”
