Chapter 55: I’m Not Lying—I’ll Really Let You Go, Hehe

“Miss Succubus, where are you going?”

Bai Shimo asked softly.

“We need to find a way out of this illusion, don’t we?”

Su Yuan said with a somewhat forced smile.

The word “leave” made Bai Shimo react sharply, as if she had been pricked by a needle.

She was still wearing her slightly loose dress, her hair disheveled, but she immediately rose from the sofa and wrapped her arms tightly around Su Yuan’s waist.

“No, I don’t want to leave just like that…

There are so many memories of us here.

I want to stay a little longer…”

She buried her face in Su Yuan’s chest, her voice muffled.

“Miss Succubus, can you… stay here with me a while longer?”

“But, but…” Su Yuan hesitated.

“Star Vault—your teammates are still outside, waiting for you, worried about you, and also…”

She caught herself mid-sentence, realizing she had almost said the words “cultural festival.”

If she accidentally mentioned the school, she’d be completely exposed.

She quickly shut her mouth and pretended nothing had happened.

Even so, Bai Shimo seemed to sense something.

She looked up at Su Yuan with a puzzled expression.

“The squad?

How do you know what’s going on outside the illusion?

Could it be that… from the very start today… you’ve been following me?”

“Y-yeah… I mean, actually, it was a coincidence.”

Su Yuan scrambled to cover her tracks, her mind racing.

“About that night at the concert… when I left without saying goodbye… I truly felt terrible about it.

So I’ve been learning about you ever since… hoping to find a chance to properly apologize…”

“Apologize… I see…”

Bai Shimo nestled her head against the older Su Yuan’s chest, the warm, soft sensation bringing her comfort.

“Miss Succubus, actually… I do know how to get out of here.

And I really don’t want to make my teammates worry too much.”

“But before that… I want Miss Succubus to stay with me here for one day.

Just like three years ago—let’s retrace all the memories we made together.”

“If you do that, I’ll forgive you, and then we’ll leave this place together.

Okay?”

Relive that day from three years ago…

Su Yuan began to think.

Was it possible—

That if she agreed to Bai Shimo’s request here and fulfilled the wish she had been carrying for three years—Bai Shimo would finally let go of her obsession with “Miss Succubus” and return to her normal life?

At that thought, a wave of relief washed over Su Yuan.

It’s just half a day.

If that’s enough to untie the knot in Bai Shimo’s heart, then I’m more than happy to do it.

“Alright, I promise you,” Su Yuan said carefully.

“But after that, you really do have a way to get us out, right?”

Bai Shimo loosened her hold slightly and looked up.

The last light of sunset glimmered in her eyes, reflecting a hint of something Su Yuan couldn’t quite read—a sly gleam.

“Of course I do.”

***

Deep inside the Security Bureau building, in the central conference room.

A burly man in a crisp uniform stood in the center.

The insignia on his shoulder marked his identity—the director of the Security Bureau’s Noston City branch.

To his left sat representatives from the Demon Hunter Special Operations Unit.

To his right sat the four magical girls of Star Vault.

They had already de-transformed and were in casual clothes, but their faces and arms still bore the fading marks of battle.

The atmosphere was heavy.

Everyone sat rigid, their eyes fixed on the director.

The director rapped his knuckles on the table, activating the holographic projection embedded in its surface.

“Now, let’s begin the post-battle assessment meeting for the demon invasion incident.

First, the operational summary…”

His voice was low and gravelly, one hand manipulating the streams of blue data as he spoke.

“Casualty report as follows: 127 students have exhibited varying degrees of PTSD symptoms after inhaling the neurotoxin from the ‘White Mist’.”

“Six teachers, while maintaining order on campus, suffered mental erosion and remain unconscious.”

“Three students were lightly injured by low-rank demon attacks during evacuation…”

His gaze swept down the list and finally stopped on one highlighted name.

His voice involuntarily deepened.

“Additionally… Star Vault Captain, Bai Shimo, has been unaccounted for since before the barrier was breached, and her current whereabouts are unknown.”

The air in the room seemed to grow even heavier.

After finishing the basic data report, the director turned off the projection, placed both hands flat on the table, and slowly scanned the room.

Finally, he turned his gaze to the young faces on the right side of the long table and cleared his throat lightly.

“Let’s skip the lengthy reports and get straight to the point.”

His tone became direct.

“Right now, aside from transferring all the wounded to the central hospital as quickly and safely as possible—the top priority, the most urgent task, is only one: rescue Molly.”

The director’s gaze shifted to the left side of the table, locking onto the head of the technical team, who wore heavy-framed glasses.

“Tech team, confirm once more.

Since Captain Molly’s communicator went offline, has there truly been no signal from her at all?

Not even a weak pulse?”
