Chapter 36: A Decisive Blow and a Curious Feast

The enormous spiritual energy fluctuations instantly amplified the spiritual pressure around Ye Zhiqu by several hundredfold, causing the surrounding space to twist and distort.

‘This is bad!’

Lu Buchun could sense that this blow would undoubtedly inflict severe injury, yet he had no retreat. The immense spiritual pressure pinned his body to the ground, rendering him immobile.

“What kind of divine ability is this? Heavenly Gate Island’s cultivation method is merely the Great Unity Qi Control Art. Why would they possess such a technique?”

Lu Buchun struggled to comprehend Heavenly Gate Island’s incredible fortune, first with Xian Meng’s divine physique and double pupils, and now with Ye Zhiqu’s monstrous cultivation method. However, further contemplation proved useless; Lu Buchun could only channel his immortal energy to resist the attack head-on.

“Crack!” A crisp sound echoed, like a clap of thunder striking a field on a summer afternoon, yet it was not. It was a slap landing squarely on Lu Buchun’s cheek. The immense force instantly blacked out his vision, his internal meridians shattered like fragile glass, and a surge of stale blood gushed from his mouth. He was sent flying several meters backward, ultimately crashing ignominiously onto the dirt.

“Why!” he roared, his face contorted with fury and bewilderment.

The power had utterly disregarded his defenses, striking him directly as if entering an uninhabited realm. Why were the people of Heavenly Gate Island so blessed with fortune? By what right?

A fierce glint sparked in Lu Buchun’s eyes as he glared at Ye Zhiqu, as if intending to strike him down with his gaze alone. Indeed, if looks could kill, Ye Zhiqu would have perished several times over under his intense stare.

Ye Zhiqu, seizing the advantage, pursued Lu Buchun, her body as light as a feather, leaping with the grace of a swallow piercing the clouds. Once within suitable range, her legs, charged like lightning, unleashed a fierce kick towards the ground where Lu Buchun lay. Lu Buchun, utterly devoid of the strength to retaliate, felt his vision dim before a violent blow landed on his abdomen.

Ye Zhiqu’s whip-kick was aimed directly at Lu Buchun’s dantian, intending to cripple him entirely!

“No!”

Lu Buchun’s dantian was effortlessly shattered, plunging him into a state worse than death. His eyes, now vacant, held a bewildered expression, like a small, wilted vegetable stripped of its vitality.

“I don’t wish to kill you. Begone.”

Ye Zhiqu felt the spiritual energy within her body grow dangerously unstable, the rampant energy coursing through her meridians causing pain akin to a brutal beating. Gazing at Lu Buchun, Ye Zhiqu knew that killing him would only invite further calamity, and with her own imminent breakthrough, she simply lacked the time to deliver a finishing blow.

Within the Taiyun Mountain Secret Realm, Xian Yuan and Murong Fier had already hunted a considerable amount and returned to their cave.

‘Finally, it’s decorated!’

After a bustling period of effort, the two had fashioned a simple wooden bed inside the cave, topped with only a straw mat woven from plants. At the cave entrance, a makeshift curtain of leaves hung, and not far from the bed stood a stone table with several stone stools. Though rudimentary, it was functional.

Xian Yuan surveyed the transformed cave, thinking, ‘Tonight, I finally won’t have to suffer from the cold.’

“Let’s make dinner,” Murong Fier suggested, pushing aside the leaf curtain and observing the fading light of the setting sun.

Xian Yuan nodded, retrieving some wild vegetables and beast meat from her storage pouch, items they had hunted earlier. She then lit a torch, its flame illuminating the entire cave, as a gentle warmth began to spread. The fierce fire cast a crimson glow upon her profile, outlining her innocent features.

Following this, Xian Yuan drew a cleaver from her spatial ring and began to prepare the wild vegetables. Her movements were practiced and adept, much to Murong Fier’s surprise.

‘A young lady from an immortal family knows how to cook?’

Murong Fier’s thought was understandable; after all, when Xian Yuan ran away at fifteen, she had been just as spoiled as Murong Fier herself. However, her extensive experiences had naturally taught her such skills.

Murong Fier watched her, a surge of warmth filling her heart. She understood the profound importance of having a reliable companion.

As the fire blazed, the two placed the prepared ingredients on the stone table, ready to cook.

“Is this truly edible?”

Murong Fier eyed the colorful array of meats and mushrooms on the table, her doubts surfacing as she wondered if they were indeed safe to eat.

“Yes, it’s edible. Although I haven’t seen most of these before, my instincts tell me they are.”

“Can I ask not to eat?”

“No, you cannot. Since you’ve boarded this ship, we shall share both fortune and hardship. How could I possibly eat alone? As the saying goes, ‘Though we may not be born on the same day, in the same month, in the same year, let us at least die on the same day, in the same month, in the same year.'”

Xian Yuan’s expression conveyed that she wouldn’t be the only one to suffer through bad food.

“Alright then.”

Murong Fier relented. Even though she was an immortal and no longer needed to eat, if Xian Yuan insisted on eating, she would join her. Otherwise, it wouldn’t feel like true friendship.

Of course, this concession stemmed entirely from Murong Fier’s lack of friends; she desperately wished not to lose this one. However, Xian Yuan, being rather thick-skinned, wouldn’t actually care about such matters.

“It’s fine, Sister Murong. I’ll try it first myself.”

Xian Yuan picked up a blue rabbit, a common Ice Plains Rabbit from the Eternal Frost Ice Plains, whose meat should be quite good.

“Isn’t eating a rabbit a bit… much?”

Murong Fier gazed at the rabbit in Xian Yuan’s hands with a complex expression. ‘Bunnies are so cute, why eat bunnies?’

“Why not? Rabbit meat is quite delicious, and Immortal Jade Pavilion’s spicy rabbit head is particularly tasty.”

“That rabbit was a common Wood Rabbit, but this Ice Plains Rabbit seems to be a new species, doesn’t it?”

Murong Fier still tried to dissuade Xian Yuan from eating the rabbit. After all, with its blue fur and eyes, it looked incredibly adorable.

“A new species? That’s even better! I’m an investigator; I’ll name this new species myself!”

Upon hearing “new species,” Xian Yuan’s eyes gleamed with excitement. Unlike the Cold Peach Spirit Tree, which was merely a branch of the Water Peach Spirit Tree and thus limited in naming options, she now had complete freedom to choose a name.

“Do as you please.”

Murong Fier watched Xian Yuan’s gleaming eyes and immediately wanted to slap herself twice. This only made Xian Yuan even more excited.

Xian Yuan looked at the rabbit clutched in her hand and declared, “Thank you for your contribution to the world.”

The rabbit, in its own way, seemed to respond, “No, I do not wish to contribute.”

Subsequently, Mr. Rabbit first felt the loss of fluids from his body, followed by the invasion of the Ice Plains’ chill. Its fur was being removed, and then its body gradually warmed, emitting an enticing aroma.

“It smells so good.”

The enticing aroma caused Murong Fier’s throat to involuntarily swallow.

“Wait a moment, let me add some soul to it.”

Seeing that it was almost done, Xian Yuan took a bottle from her spatial ring and sprinkled its contents over the rabbit meat.

“What are you adding?”

“Cumin.”

“What are you adding?” Murong Fier asked curiously. She detected an even more mouth-watering aroma than before, the rabbit meat now roasted to a golden crispness. The faint sizzling of bursting oil caused her to instinctively clutch her stomach.

“Cumin,” Xian Yuan replied with a smile, handing the bottle to Murong Fier. Inside was a special cumin seasoning, exuding a rich, fragrant scent.
