“Quasi-Saint… a Quasi-Saint!”
The Mermaid King’s face turned ashen, cold sweat profusely breaking out on his forehead.
This was a Sacred Edict, a power only a Quasi-Saint could wield, and once unleashed, cultivators below the Dao Venerable stage had no power to resist.
Moreover, this sensation felt incredibly familiar; it was the same potent divine sense they had encountered just days prior!
Not only him, but the entire Mermaid race, along with Liu Chenyan, Ye Zhiqu, and the others, were utterly stunned.
This was a Quasi-Saint, after all!
Liu Chenyan, in particular, found the feeling even more familiar. Her own mother, even when doing nothing, was constantly surrounded by an invisible aura of sacred power, a subtle presence Liu Chenyan always sensed upon meeting her.
“No matter what grievances you hold, do not cause trouble within my King’s City,” Wang Zhe declared, her voice firm.
Wang Zhe issued a blunt order for them to leave, showing no trace of politeness.
‘No, we must cling to their leg!’
Liu Chenyan immediately put away her jade token and exchanged a glance with Ye Zhiqu. ‘To leave now would be certain death! We absolutely must shamelessly remain here!’
Having exchanged another look, Liu Chenyan and Ye Zhiqu then acted as if possessed by master performers, immediately clutching onto Wang Zhe’s leg.
“Senior, please understand that we were forced into this by our circumstances,” Liu Chenyan pleaded, her eyes welling up with tears as she gazed at Wang Zhe.
Ye Zhiqu quickly added, “That’s right, Senior. We truly had no other choice. We beg for your magnanimity; please allow us to stay within the King’s City.”
Wang Zhe was momentarily bewildered by this sudden turn of events. She looked down at the two women kneeling before her, asking with a puzzled expression, “What exactly are you two doing?”
Seizing the opportunity, Liu Chenyan quickly explained, “Senior, we are being hunted! We merely glimpsed the Mermaid Princess bathing by accident, and now they want to kill us!”
Ye Zhiqu hastily agreed, “Yes, Senior, we are both women. A glance shouldn’t be such a big deal, and it wasn’t intentional.”
“Uhm…”
Wang Zhe regarded them skeptically. While she might have dismissed it before, with the rogue Leng Xi around, she couldn’t entirely rule out such a possibility.
Nevertheless, seeing the two aggrieved young women, a flicker of sympathy arose within her.
After a moment of contemplation, she finally nodded. “If that’s the case, then so be it.”
“Thank you, Senior!”
“Many thanks, many thanks!”
Upon hearing this, Liu Chenyan and Ye Zhiqu immediately expressed their gratitude, thanking her profusely.
Secretly, they both let out a sigh of relief, their lives finally spared.
Wang Zhe then turned her gaze to the Mermaid race and stated, “Since you’ve come, don’t leave.”
“Our clan’s Saintess is conducting ecological research. You will remain here as research material.”
“Understood.”
The Mermaid race, kneeling on the ground, had no chance to resist. For a Quasi-Saint, annihilating them would be as simple as a flick of the wrist.
Wang Zhe looked at the two young women, observing their identical sect uniforms, and inquired, “May I ask your esteemed names and which sect you belong to?”
“This junior is Liu Chenyan, the chief disciple of Heavenly Gate Island.”
“This junior is Ye Zhiqu, the second true disciple of Heavenly Gate Island.”
“Hmm???”
“Are you fellow disciples of our clan’s Saintess?” Wang Zhe’s eyes widened. So, these were Xian Yuan’s senior sister and second senior sister.
Liu Chenyan and Ye Zhiqu were also dumbfounded. How had a disciple from their sect suddenly become so powerful, even ascending to the position of Saintess for an entire race?
‘Saintess? And a disciple of Heavenly Gate Island?’ they wondered inwardly. Wang Zhe, however, merely offered a mysterious smile. “Come with me; I’ll let you meet her.”
“Thank you, Senior!”
Liu Chenyan and Ye Zhiqu clasped their hands in a respectful salute.
“You all come along as well,” Wang Zhe instructed the Mermaid race.
“As you command.”
Wang Zhe then led the Mermaid elders, departing alongside Xian Yuan. The group proceeded towards Xian Yuan’s laboratory.
Along the way, the sight of King’s City truly opened Liu Chenyan’s and Ye Zhiqu’s eyes.
‘Where is this place? This is the Eastern Sea Secret Realm!’ The city’s prosperity and extravagance were no less than that of any medium-sized city in the outside world.
Gazing at Wang Zhe before her, Liu Chenyan couldn’t shake the feeling that this person’s identity was extraordinary.
Despite her appearance as an innkeeper, what innkeeper possessed the cultivation of a Quasi-Saint?
‘No, wait, there actually is!’
‘Didn’t her own mother enjoy opening inns, pharmacies, and flower shops when she went out?’
With this thought, Liu Chenyan gathered her courage and stepped forward to ask, “May I inquire about Senior’s name?”
Hearing her, Wang Zhe smiled faintly. “I am Wang Zhe, merely an ordinary innkeeper.”
‘If I believed you, I’d bash my head against a block of tofu and die.’
‘An ordinary innkeeper? Whose innkeeper wears custom-made attire crafted from Heaven and Earth spiritual treasures?’
‘She could, at the very least, identify one of those spiritual treasures: Heavenly Dream Cicada Silk!’
‘This material was priceless and virtually unobtainable in the outside world; clothing made from it could withstand a full-powered blow from an Immortal Emperor.’
“Senior Wang Zhe, you must be joking,” Liu Chenyan said.
Wang Zhe did not reply, simply scrutinizing Liu Chenyan with an appraising gaze.
Wang Zhe sensed a familiar spiritual energy emanating from Liu Chenyan, yet she couldn’t quite place it.
However, Wang Zhe didn’t dwell on it, continuing her journey towards Xian Yuan’s laboratory.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the supermarket entrance.
Inside, the supermarket remained bustling, with Leng Xi, Zhi Jiu, and Murong Fier still diligently at work.
Wang Zhe turned to the Mermaid King and instructed, “Keep a close eye on your clan members; don’t let them wander off.”
She then led Liu Chenyan and Ye Zhiqu inside.
As for the Mermaid race, they were only permitted to stay outside and feel the cool breeze. Complaining was out of the question, for if their grievances were known, it would mean the annihilation of their clan.
“Ding-a-ling~”
The supermarket door opened, and the crisp jingle of bells drew the attention of Leng Xi, Zhi Jiu, and Murong Fier.
They turned to see Wang Zhe entering, accompanied by two unfamiliar women.
Leng Xi’s brow subtly arched, and an unquenchable thirst suddenly seized her.
‘Beautiful, truly stunning!’
‘These were two peerless beauties, and naturally, Leng Xi was greatly intrigued. Yet, why did one of them seem so incredibly familiar?’
Zhi Jiu, meanwhile, gazed intently at Leng Xi, a slight discomfort stirring within her.
Murong Fier maintained a polite smile, ready to welcome the new arrivals.
Wang Zhe approached the counter, smiling as she addressed Leng Xi and Zhi Jiu. “These two are Liu Chenyan and Ye Zhiqu. They are disciples from Heavenly Gate Island and are looking for Xian Yuan.”
“Xian Yuan?”
Liu Chenyan was momentarily startled. ‘Why would I be looking for that scoundrel?’
‘There’s no one named Xian Yuan in our sect; there’s only a disciple named Xian Meng. Could it be…!’
Liu Chenyan felt as though something extraordinary was unfolding. ‘If Xian Meng truly is Xian Yuan, then there will be endless gossip to enjoy! The drama will never cease!’
‘With a Quasi-Saint mother, Liu Chenyan knew more secrets than Murong Fier. So, if Xian Meng indeed turned out to be Xian Yuan, then her future would be filled with much more amusement! Yes!’
“Xian Yuan? Don’t you mean Xian Meng, Seventh Junior Sister?”
Ye Zhiqu was equally surprised. ‘Among our junior sisters, only Xian Meng has that name. Wasn’t Xian Yuan that despicable scoundrel?’
“Junior Sister Ye, listen to me—”
Liu Chenyan leaned in close, whispering a few words into Ye Zhiqu’s ear, causing Ye Zhiqu’s expression to become increasingly peculiar.
