Chapter 6: Clash of Claimants: The Sword Child’s Fury

“My dear sister, this man is clearly my husband. Why, then, do you meddle in my affairs? Or perhaps you’ve taken a liking to him yourself? If that’s the case, allow me to keep him safe from your grasp. As a Sword Child of the Grand Void Sword Pavilion, do you not feel disgraced by coveting another’s husband?” Zhou Ci stated, her expression darkening as she fixed her gaze upon Jun Jinghong.

“Who are you?” Rou Jianqian’s eyes, now brimming with murderous intent, narrowed on Xiao Yan.

“I am the Flame Emperor. How is it that you, as the Heavenly Emperor, have forgotten the existence of mere mortals like us?” Xiao Yan retorted with a dismissive sneer.

“The Flame Emperor!”

Rou Jianqian was momentarily taken aback upon learning Xiao Yan’s identity, yet she swiftly regained her composed demeanor. While she had heard of the Flame Emperor, their strength was two realms beneath her own.

Had she not been merely a divine sense projection, Xiao Yan would likely not even possess the right to address her.

“I do not recognize you. Does this Saint truly need to acknowledge an ant of the Immortal Emperor stage?”

“What did you say?!”

Xiao Yan’s notoriously fiery temper ignited in an instant, and she lashed out, “If you truly possess power, send your main body! What exactly do you think you can achieve with a mere wisp of divine sense?”

Ignoring Xiao Yan entirely, Rou Jianqian turned her attention to the spirited Jun Jinghong. “And who might this one be? Another attempting to become a mistress, I presume?”

As the Heavenly Emperor of the Immortal Court, she found herself utterly incapable of harboring any affection for such women.

Jun Jinghong, observing the cold and domineering Rou Jianqian, felt a surge of indignation. “You speak with great self-awareness, mistress. And besides, Xian Yuan has already pledged his life to me; what concern is that of yours?” Jun Jinghong retorted furiously.

Rou Jianqian’s countenance grew exceedingly grim. How could someone of her exalted status be subjected to such insults from a mere ant?

“Hmph! You mere mortals!”

Rou Jianqian bellowed in a fit of rage, raising her slender, pale right arm. In that very instant, the skies above shifted dramatically, and a luminous full moon materialized.

“The moon??”

A collective gasp rippled through the gathered cultivators, their minds reeling in shock. Rou Jianqian’s technique was truly defying the heavens; the sudden appearance of a moon left the entire crowd of onlookers utterly awestruck.

“Heavenly Yin Earthly Yang!”

A terrifying aura instantly descended, engulfing the entire region.

“Xian Yuan! Be careful!”

Zhou Ci exclaimed, her voice laced with urgency. After all, Xian Yuan’s cultivation was considerably lower than her own, and Rou Jianqian’s realm far exceeded hers.

A thunderous rumble echoed as a crescent moon hurtled towards Xiao Yan.

Unfazed, Xiao Yan surged forward to meet it, various exotic flames erupting from within her body, coiling around her slender legs. With a single, decisive step, she vanished, instantly reappearing before the incoming attack.

“Bang!”

A powerful punch struck the celestial body, and the moon instantly shattered into fragments.

“Hm?!”

“This woman actually managed to block it!”

Disbelief clouded Rou Jianqian’s beautiful eyes. Her ultimate technique had been utterly pulverized. Although this was merely a projection of her divine sense, annihilating an Immortal Emperor was typically a trivial matter.

Yet, only a handful could ever hope to withstand her attacks, and Xiao Yan had just accomplished it, stirring a profound sense of crisis within her. With her true body hindered by the Red Dust Calamity (TL Note: A significant worldly trial or tribulation that prevents one from acting freely.), her current clone could only manifest the power of a half-step Dao Venerable, making it exceedingly difficult to seize Xian Yuan.

“Not bad at all,” Rou Jianqian remarked, a hint of disdain in her tone.

“Hmph, you’re not so bad yourself,” Xiao Yan replied with a cool demeanor.

“Grand Void Sword Child, is your Grand Void Sword Pavilion so utterly idle that you deem it fit to disrupt my wedding?” Zhou Ci questioned.

“Dao Venerable Zhou, I have stated it repeatedly: Xian Yuan is my husband. You are nothing more than a mistress, a mere usurper of another’s spouse!”

“You…!”

Zhou Ci felt as though she might burst from sheer indignation.

“Zhou Ci, the Grand Void Sword Child speaks no falsehood; you are indeed a mistress.” Rou Jianqian then swept her gaze over Xiao Yan and the other two, adding, “And you three are no different!”

“Who truly is the mistress? I fear some people simply lack self-awareness!” Xiao Yan retorted, refusing to be outdone. With that, exotic flames erupted around her, and she lunged directly towards Rou Jianqian.

“You seek death!”

Rou Jianqian’s delicate face contorted in furious indignation. The immortal spiritual energy swirling around her instantly coalesced into a long spear, which she seized and thrust towards Xiao Yan with lethal intent.

As Xiao Yan and Rou Jianqian engaged in their fierce duel, an undeniable disparity in their strength became apparent. However, the exotic flames empowering Xiao Yan allowed her to transcend cultivation realms, effectively bridging the chasm between an Immortal Emperor and a Quasi-Saint.

“Are you not afraid of harming innocents, or perhaps of igniting a fire that will consume yourself?” Xiao Yan asked, her gaze steady on Rou Jianqian.

“These individuals merely covet Xian Yuan; what does it matter if they perish?” Rou Jianqian transmitted, her voice utterly devoid of emotion.

“Dao Venerable Zhou, I implore you, release Xian Yuan!”

Jun Jinghong’s gaze was fixed on the Grand Void Sword clutched in Zhou Ci’s hand, which radiated an endless, chilling gleam. At this moment, Jun Jinghong had no interest in inquiring about Xiao Yan’s relationship with Xian Yuan; her sole desire was to free Xian Yuan and demand a clear explanation for his actions.

“You, a mere Heavenly Immortal, what gives you the right to be so arrogant?” Dao Venerable Zhou’s aura began to ripple ominously. Her gaze settled on the Grand Void Sword in Jun Jinghong’s hand as she sneered maliciously, “I merely wonder if the Grand Void Sword, your Grand Void Pavilion’s most cherished treasure, will still exist after today!”

“Is it not merely a Dao Venerable? Today, I, Jun Jinghong, shall wield my sword to sever the life of a Dao Venerable!” Jun Jinghong declared, her eyes gleaming with sharp resolve. Gripping the Grand Void Sword, her entire being emanated an intensely sharp and formidable aura.

Dao Venerable Zhou’s expression shifted subtly upon hearing her words. “Hah, what audacious bluster! I shall eagerly await to see precisely what you intend to rely upon to slay a Dao Venerable!”

From her spatial ring, Jun Jinghong retrieved a jade token bearing the inscription “Grand Void” and promptly crushed it. In that instant, a formidable Quasi-Saint aura surged forth, enveloping her entire being.

This very jade token represented the life-saving measure bestowed upon her by Xi Chaoyuan, the venerated ancestor of the Grand Void Sword Pavilion.
