Chapter 47: The Illusion’s Test

The moment the servant children saw the young master approaching, their legs went weak, and they immediately knelt down trembling.

Song Ze turned his head, his eyes still misty with tears, and saw a golden-haired youth walking out from the side.

Undoubtedly, his looks were beyond description. No matter how you looked at him, he was a beautiful young man with an aloof temperament. When his eyes swept over others, there was only cold indifference. Compared to his peers, he seemed years more mature.

Seeing Idis’s icy demeanor, Song Ze breathed a sigh of relief. At least this was much better than when he was having an episode!

Of course, Song Ze knew this was just an illusion, but it felt incredibly real. He almost had the feeling that he had actually traveled through time.

“What are you doing?” Idis asked carelessly.

The servant children’s faces turned pale with fear. They kept apologizing, regretting ever getting involved in such trouble.

Thinking time was of the essence, Song Ze stepped forward and carefully grabbed Idis’s clothes. “Brother Idis…”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he froze. By all rights, they were barely more than strangers. How could he suddenly address someone so intimately—with such a gay and seemingly disgusting term? Wasn’t this bound to make Idis hate him?

At that moment, Song Ze didn’t know whether to continue or pull back. He could only stare straight at the other, teardrops still hanging under his eyes. He looked like nothing more than a pitiable pushover.

“You—” Idis was obviously taken aback by Song Ze’s address.

Just as Song Ze thought his plan to gain favor had gone cold, Idis reached out and gently wiped the tears from his cheek.

Song Ze: “??” Huh?

“If something happens in the future, just have a servant come find me,” Idis said coolly. “Your status is not something these lowly people can bully.”

As Idis finished speaking, Song Ze felt a wave of comfort wash over his face. Clearly, the other had used a refreshing magic on him, leaving him clear-headed and invigorated.

Song Ze: “…??” Since when was Idis such a kind and gentle person!

Moreover, he immediately felt that the invisible force that had been subtly oppressing him had lessened somewhat, making his body much lighter. It seemed that to break this illusion, he really needed to get closer to Idis…

Even though he had earlier acted like an old hand familiar with breaking illusions, the truth was that Song Ze had no idea what to do now that his soul had been exchanged!

[After all, the host didn’t directly transmigrate. Although the situation looks similar, because the original body holds high favor toward you, it affects the dream as well.]

I see. Song Ze breathed a sigh of relief. Starting from zero to build favor was truly a hassle!

After all, the Idis before him was still a child—far better than the sickly personality he would develop later. He was actually quite happy to get close to this Idis. Maybe with some effort in this illusion, he could even correct Idis’s personality and make him normal.

Filled with sudden enthusiasm, Song Ze grabbed Idis’s hand just as he was about to leave. As tears slipped down, a big smile bloomed on his face. “Thank you, Brother Idis!”

Idis was stunned.

Song Ze opened his eyes and clearly saw a blush spread across Idis’s pale cheeks. Though it was just a light red, his fair skin made it very noticeable.

At the same time, the invisible force binding Song Ze loosened a bit more. Although it was only a small part overall, it was enough to encourage him! It gave him the satisfaction that his efforts were being rewarded.

So Song Ze started enthusiastically building favor with Idis, like playing a game. Every day, he would run to the other and act cute.

Although Idis remained somewhat distant due to his icy persona, his attitude changed quickly. He often acted tsundere, taking care of Song Ze despite his words. In just a few days, it felt like years of emotional growth had occurred.

This shocked the entire duke’s mansion. Everyone was amazed. The previously cold young master was now so close to this child who had been casually raised here, even knowing how to take care of him. They realized for the first time that the young master was actually so kind!

Song Ze went to bed each night filled with a sense of accomplishment, feeling that if he kept working hard, Idis could become normal! After all, now Idis was perfectly normal!

Time (materially speaking) passed like a dream.

Soon, they arrived at what Song Ze remembered as a turning point. He woke up early, extremely nervous. If his guess was right, this was where the play—or the illusion—reached its key moment.

Moreover, why had Idis lost control of his magic? There was definitely something fishy! Could there be some conspiracy behind it?

When Song Ze arrived at the lecture hall, he immediately felt a sense of foreboding. He was about to think…

Idis was already waiting in his seat. When he saw Song Ze arrive, his violet eyes brightened, barely able to hide his joy. But constrained by his cool persona, he only nodded slightly.

Soon, the teacher came. Contrary to Song Ze’s conspiracy theories, the teacher looked completely ordinary, not like someone who would cause trouble.

“What’s going on? Maybe there’s another reason?” Song Ze was tangled in confusion.

The teacher began explaining some magic basics, and finally asked Idis to demonstrate a spell for Song Ze.

Song Ze’s heart suddenly tightened. He sensed an uncomfortable feeling. Looking closely, he could vaguely see some black mist swirling around Idis. It wasn’t the same as demonic black mist, but it still gave a very ominous feeling.

“What’s happening—” Before Song Ze could react, he heard exclamations from others. The next moment, a fireball shot toward him.

Song Ze instinctively wanted to dodge, but an invisible force hampered him. At the start, that might have been a problem, but after building so much favor with Idis, the restrictions had greatly lessened. Still, Song Ze strained with all his might and was just barely off. In that critical moment, the mark on his back suddenly grew hot, the surrounding bindings released, and he finally dodged by a hair’s breadth.

Then Song Ze collapsed limply into a chair, gasping for air. He felt completely drained.

Idis’s face darkened as he strode over and pressed a hand on Song Ze’s shoulder. Only then did Song Ze realize he had no strength left; the touch made him fall directly into Idis’s arms.

He could clearly feel Idis’s heart pounding.

“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…” Idis mumbled softly, his voice filled with deep fear. In that moment of magical backlash, he had truly thought Song Ze would be hurt.

“It’s okay,” Song Ze said with difficulty. “Brother Idis, I’m perfectly fine.”

Although Song Ze said that, to others, the frail boy looked deathly pale, his forehead covered in cold sweat. He appeared pitiful, except for his bright blue eyes, which still sparkled with vitality as always, not thinking of himself but comforting others.

Idis couldn’t help but hug Song Ze tighter.

And in his arms, Song Ze suddenly felt the invisible force binding him collapse by half. He could even use half of his original power. If he were to represent the situation with a favorability meter, it seemed that Idis’s favor toward him in the illusion had once again broken through the roof.

Naturally, a doctor was called to examine him, confirming that Song Ze was indeed fine, just a little weak. As for why Idis’s magic had gone out of control, there was no definite explanation. In the end, they decided to separate Song Ze and Idis for their studies.

Idis had no objection to this. For Song Ze’s safety, he would do anything.

Song Ze was forced to lie in bed and rest for a while.

Having finally avoided what felt like the trickiest part of the plot, Song Ze relaxed, thinking that there shouldn’t be any major problems now.

Remembering the strange black mist around Idis at that time, Song Ze couldn’t help asking the system again, “What exactly was that black mist around Idis…”

[After testing, it is a power he was born with,] the system said. [Because his soul is incomplete, part of it was filled with chaotic energy at birth. This caused him to be different from ordinary people from the soul level—he can’t feel normal emotions or empathy. Hence, his cold personality.]

Song Ze: “?!?”

Song Ze: “Wait, why are you suddenly dropping such huge information? What do you mean by an incomplete soul!”

[Unable to analyze due to insufficient data.]

Song Ze: “…” Well, that was to be expected. Even if there was some truth, how could they let him know it so casually?

Still, considering this, it was quite impressive that he could forcibly build a relationship with Idis. Was this the power of protagonist aura?

[The current plot is almost complete. Inquiring the host: would you like to fast-forward the illusion to the next plot?]

“Oh, there’s such a convenient function? Of course!” Song Ze answered without thinking. He felt that, based on the current developments, the future would surely be normal.

In the next instant, Song Ze regretted his decision.

After a dizzying spin, Song Ze hadn’t even opened his eyes when he realized his body had returned to its normal state. He must have been fast-forwarded to about seventeen or eighteen years old.

Then, when he opened his eyes, he saw the silver chains with magic patterns shackled around his ankles.

Song Ze: “?!?”

How did it suddenly jump to such an explosive scene?!
