Chapter 63: Care to Make a Bet?

From her corner, Su Qingyan watched the scene unfold, her jaw practically on the floor.

That translucent female ghost was currently in a highly ungraceful posture, frantically absorbing the white spiritual light pouring from Bai Yue’s hand like she was slurping up noodles.

Between each slurp, she let out weird, embarrassing moans.

No matter how you looked at it, the scene was utterly bizarre.

Before long, the figure’s previously flat belly began to visibly swell.

“Burp~”

The figure let out a loud, satisfied belch.

Two patches of strange, rosy flush appeared on her semi-transparent face, as if she were tipsy—her eyes growing dazed and unfocused.

“O-okay…

I think I’m full.”

The figure rubbed her slightly protruding belly, squinting contentedly, and made a gesture for Bai Yue to stop.

However, not only did the spiritual light in Bai Yue’s hand fail to diminish—it blazed even brighter!

A thicker, more violent column of spiritual energy was forcefully rammed straight into the figure’s body.

“What’s the rush?”

Bai Yue’s smile grew more wicked by the second, a hint of chilling mischief glinting in her eyes.

“You’ve been hungry for so long—why stop at half full?

Don’t worry.

Since you’re with my Yueluo, I’ll make sure you eat your fill today.

All you can eat.”

“Eh?

Wa—”

The figure sensed something was wrong.

Far too much spiritual energy was flooding in—so much that her soul body could no longer digest it, and it was piling up directly in her belly!

“Stop, stop, stop!

Big Sis!

Ancestor!

No more!”

To her horror, the figure realized her belly was inflating like a balloon.

“AAAAHHH!

Enough!

I’ve had enough!”

She began struggling desperately, trying to sever the flow of spiritual energy, but Bai Yue’s spiritual power clung to her like sentient tentacles, locking on and relentlessly pumping more in.

“Too much!

It’s too much!

I can’t possibly eat all this!”

The figure’s arms flailed uselessly, tears streaming down her face, her delicate features completely distorted by the overwhelming sensation of being stretched to the limit.

She felt like her soul was about to burst from all that pure spiritual energy!

“It’s spilling over!

It’s really spilling over!

Waaah—”

Bai Yue stood her ground, her expression utterly blank, watching the shadow writhe and shriek in midair.

Not only did she not reduce the output of spiritual energy, but she even dialed it up a notch.

“Swallow it all down.

Not a single drop gets wasted.”

A full incense stick’s worth of time passed.

The previously silent room was now filled only with heavy, labored breathing.

Thump.

The spiritual energy in the air finally cut off.

The figure dropped out of the air like a crumpled rag, landing flat on the cold floor.

She was in a truly pitiful state.

Her four limbs lay sprawled weakly; her once-slender waist had vanished, replaced by a belly that bulged like a small hill.

Her flawless, exquisite face was flushed to an extreme crimson, her eyes vacant, tears of humiliation still clinging to the corners.

A stray wisp of spiritual energy residue escaped uncontrollably from the corner of her mouth.

Her expression had long since collapsed into utter ruin, and all that escaped her lips were faint, meaningless murmurs.

“Can’t eat anymore… really can’t eat another bite…”

Bai Yue leisurely clapped her hands together, looking down at the heap of “crumpled rag” on the floor.

“Good.”

Bai Yue turned to look at Su Qingyan, who had been trembling in the corner.

“She’s full now.

Tomorrow morning, work starts on time.

We’ve got plenty of busy days ahead.”

Su Qingyan shrank back into her corner and swallowed hard.

She glanced at the “senior” still twitching unconsciously on the floor, then raised her right hand with a tremble.

“Um—” Su Qingyan’s voice shook a little.

“Actually, I have one more question?”

“Why are there so many questions?

Speak.”

“It’s just…”

Su Qingyan swallowed.

“How do I get the ring from Yueluo?”

Bai Yue turned her head and stared at Su Qingyan like she was some kind of rare single-celled organism, holding the gaze for a long moment.

“Just go ask her for it.

She’ll probably give it to you.”

Bai Yue’s tone was flat.

“Impossible!”

Su Qingyan blurted out, shaking her head like a rattle-drum.

“That was a keepsake from her parents!

There’s no way she’d just give it to me!”

Bai Yue rubbed her forehead in exasperation.

This girl—why did she become so clueless when it came to matters of the heart?

Truly a top-tier emotional idiot.

“Don’t you know,” Bai Yue tapped the table, “what you mean to her?”

Su Qingyan froze.

“What do I mean?

Good friend?

Bestie?”

Bai Yue sighed, leaned forward, and stared into Su Qingyan’s eyes: “Let me ask you—how do you see her?”

Without a second thought, Su Qingyan answered: “She’s my good sister.”

The air suddenly went still.

The corner of Bai Yue’s mouth twitched.

“Sister?”

Bai Yue drew out the syllable, her gaze dripping with amusement.

“You… really think of her that way?”

“O-of course!”

Su Qingyan puffed out her chest, trying to sound convincing.

“Oh.”

Bai Yue leaned back, counting on her fingers.

“The kind of ‘sister’ who can’t sleep at night and has to squeeze into your bed?

The kind of ‘sister’ who asks if you need help scrubbing your back while you’re in the bath?

The kind of ‘sister’ whose gaze turns murderously cold when you talk to someone else a little too long?”

Su Qingyan fell into deep thought…

The warm breath on her neck when Yueluo had pressed against her last night…

The restless fingers Yueluo had slipped around her waist the night before…

The image of Yueluo stepping out of the bath, water droplets tracing down her collarbone into her sheer robe the night before that…

Stop, stop, stop!

No more thinking!

Su Qingyan’s face flushed crimson in an instant, practically bleeding red, with visible steam practically rising from the top of her head.

“I-I-I-I… ours is a pure sisterly bond!”

She stammered so badly her tongue nearly tied itself in knots, her hands waving frantically in front of her chest.

Bai Yue saw through it all but said nothing, watching Su Qingyan’s self-deceiving, guilt-ridden expression—she almost burst out laughing.

Liking someone without even realizing it, going on and on about sisterly love—what a pair of live comedians.

“Fine, pure sisterly bond.”

Bai Yue held back her laughter and shifted the topic.

“Then what do you think Yueluo thinks of you?”

Su Qingyan’s expression dimmed at that.

She lowered her head and tugged at the corner of her clothes.

“Probably… as an older sister.”

Her voice grew much softer.

“Even though, most of the time, she’s the one protecting me.

Whenever danger comes, she’s always the one charging ahead, while I can only hide behind her.”

Bai Yue watched her crestfallen look and raised an eyebrow.

“Care to make a bet?”

Su Qingyan looked up.

“Bet on what?”

“On that ring.”

Bai Yue held up one finger.

“You go ask for it.

If she hesitates or asks a bunch of questions, I lose.

If she gives it to you without a word, you lose.”

The next morning.

Dawn.

Sunlight streamed through the window lattice, spilling across Su Qingyan’s collarbone.

Hanging there, quite conspicuously, was a red cord.

And at the end of that cord dangled an ancient ring.

Su Qingyan stood before the dressing mirror, completely dumbstruck.

“Could Yueluo really…”

No, no, no!

Su Qingyan shook her head violently, tossing that dangerous thought out of her mind.

“This just means Yueluo trusts me a lot…”

“Yes, that’s exactly it.”

Having successfully convinced herself, Su Qingyan let out a long breath and pushed open the door.

In the courtyard, Bai Yue was leaning against a tree trunk, holding a cup of hot tea, watching her with an amused smile.

“Well, well.

Looks like someone lost the bet.”

Bai Yue blew on her tea leaves, her tone teasing.

Su Qingyan clamped a hand over her collar.

“Good sisters do this all the time!

You wouldn’t understand—you don’t have a sister!”

“Ohhh—” Bai Yue drew out the sound.

“Did I say anything?”

“Then say nothing at all!”

Su Qingyan’s face was burning red as she wobbled and ran off.

Watching her flee, Bai Yue took a sip of tea, but the smile at the corners of her mouth refused to be suppressed.

“Tch.

Is this dummy finally about to wake up?”
