Chapter 47: Possession and Scapegoat

I cautiously glanced around with my peripheral vision, confirming there were no third parties.
Perhaps it was because this time only Senior Sister Mo and I invited Bixian, and only two ghosts came; the weasel didn’t appear.

Last time, Senior Sister Mo and I discussed demons and ghosts.
Senior Sister Mo said that both the hanged ghost and the human pillar man ghost died in the school, and their range of activity was probably limited to Jianlong Middle School.
Even if they could leave, their strength would be greatly reduced, turning them into harmless wandering spirits.
The weasel, on the other hand, was most likely a well-cultivated demon, naturally unaffected by environment or location.
Its appearance during the last Bixian game was probably just a coincidence of passing by, so it was completely normal for it not to come this time.

The two ghosts each extended a hand, hooking their fingers onto the pencil, and gently rotated it.
The pencil drew a red circle on the paper, continuously looping, indicating that Bixian had arrived.

Mo Qingyan took a deep breath and then asked, “Are you still the Bixian who came last time?”
The hanged ghost and the human pillar ghost simultaneously moved the pencil, pointing in the direction of “yes.”
Of course, I also nodded, indicating that the true entities had indeed arrived.

“Thank you for your assistance last time.As per the agreement, we will sacrifice Luo Xiao’s fresh blood to you,” Mo Qingyan said again.

Completing the transaction was the first step; we couldn’t let the Bixian think we were going back on our word.

The red pencil continued to circle “yes.”
I saw the two ghosts also looking at my blood bag, but they didn’t immediately lunge to take it, because it wasn’t full yet.
“Luo Xiao, it’s your turn to ask.” Mo Qingyan said.
I still hadn’t prepared what to ask, so after a moment of thought, I decided to confirm the identity of the two ghosts and asked, “Are the two ghosts haunting me Xia Yubing’s parents?”
The red pencil continued to circle “yes,” indicating that they were indeed Xia Yubing’s parents.
I opened my mouth to ask the next question, but suddenly remembered the rule Senior Sister Mo mentioned last time—one question per person, asked in turns.
So I closed my mouth and refrained from asking further.

Mo Qingyan thought for a moment and asked, “What exactly do those two ghosts want to do?”
The red pencil stopped.
I noticed that the two ghosts didn’t answer immediately.
After a moment, the human pillar male ghost wrote out the crooked traditional characters:(Huan Yang – Return to the Yang world/revive).
Immediately after, he released the pencil, and the hanged female ghost wrote with neat handwriting:Fu Huo – Revive/resurrect).

Returning to the Yang world and resurrection—these two terms essentially mean the same thing.
But Senior Sister Mo had said that ghosts don’t truly know the future; they can only answer with information they know or guess.
This means that their conclusion of wanting to resurrect was a guess based on their own thoughts as ghosts?
Mo Qingyan’s eyebrows furrowed, and her face became somewhat grim.
She looked at me, indicating it was my turn to ask.
So I asked, “How can they resurrect?I saw with my own eyes that their bodies are incomplete, and truly, dead people…”

“Luo Xiao!Stop!” Mo Qingyan’s sharp reprimand interrupted my question.
She urgently said, “Some questions are taboo, and don’t ask two questions at once.”

What I had just wanted to ask was, “Can dead people really resurrect?”
Now, thinking back, that question was indeed very dangerous.
If the answer was no, then I would be asking a very impolite question in front of two ghosts.
And if the answer was yes, I feared some very terrifying things would happen.

The hanged female ghost held the pen and wrote: “Find a scapegoat.”
And the human pillar male ghost then wrote two characters: “Possession.”

Again, similar answers, but I felt a new wave of panic.
Aren’t I their target?
Just now, Senior Sister Mo clearly said that those two ghosts wouldn’t harm me for now.

“Luo Xiao, I know what you want to ask, and I can answer part of that question.” Mo Qingyan said, choosing her words carefully before stating:
“Most of what ghosts call ‘returning to the living world’ and ‘possession’ isn’t true resurrection.
Instead, it’s replacing another person, similar to ‘body snatching’ in xianxia novels.
However, ghosts have more requirements: either they need to reach some kind of pact with the possessed person, or the possessed person needs to have a bloodline connection with them.
Otherwise, the host will die shortly after possession.”

“So they were actually targeting their daughter, Xia Yubing?
But I’m not the real Xia Yubing, and I don’t have a blood connection with them,” I said.

At this moment, I felt the red pencil move, sliding to the “yes” position.
It was then I realized that in my previous statement, I had used a question, which was equivalent to having asked two questions consecutively.
Mo Qingyan covered her forehead.
Xiao Qing looked at me with even more worried eyes.
However, I looked at the Bixian answering my question.
It was the hanged female ghost pushing the red pencil.
But she wasn’t angry or directly attacking me.
After answering my question, she reached out and pulled away the full blood bag next to me.
The human pillar male ghost didn’t contend with her for this first bag of blood.

Seeing the blood bag vanish into thin air, Mo Qingyan let out a sigh of relief and said, “Fortunately, we’re completing a transaction with Bixian, and they’ve taken your benefit.
At least for now, they shouldn’t make things difficult for you.
Otherwise, we might have had to pay a significant price to appease Bixian.
Try not to ask too many questions in the future.”

From Mo Qingyan’s tone and expression, I could tell that asking too many questions wasn’t the most serious consequence.
At least it was a mistake that could be rectified with a certain cost, but other taboos might not be so forgiving.

“Xiao Qing, help her replace it with a new blood bag.
Just insert the needle tube into the blood bag; it’s very simple,” Mo Qingyan said.

Xiao Qing came over with a new empty blood bag, inserted it, and blood once again flowed through the tube into the new blood bag.

“My judgment might have been wrong.
Now there are two possibilities: either they mistakenly believe you are their daughter and want to use you for possession, or they want you to help them find a scapegoat.
Bixian, which situation is it?” Mo Qingyan asked.

The red pencil drew to the number “1,” indicating the first situation.
Those two ghosts really wanted to use me as a scapegoat.
I immediately broke into a cold sweat and quickly asked, “Then is there any way I can dispel these two evil ghosts?”

The female ghost again held the pen and wrote: “Help you, one bag of blood.”
She would help me, on the condition of another bag of blood?
I looked at the blood bag.
Each bag was two hundred milliliters.
If I drew two more bags a few days later, I should be able to endure it.
And the hanged female ghost, who had absorbed my fresh blood, felt her spiritual body become more solid, and her ominous aura heavier.
She seemed to have grown stronger.
Perhaps this was the confidence she had to help me exorcise the ghosts?

“Wait a minute, don’t agree to it.
Allow me to ask Bixian a few more questions.” Mo Qingyan asked cautiously, “Bixian, Bixian, why are those two ghosts haunting Luo Xiao?
She is not the real Xia Yubing, nor does she have a blood relation to the two ghosts.”

The male and female ghosts wrote separately: “Appearance,” “Clothes.”
