Join the Server“Mr. Yi, what is the situation?”
The other school administrators found it somewhat peculiar; the principal seemed to place immense trust and reliance on this security consultant.
“The situation is stable,” Yi Zhiqiu stated. “Once the ambulance arrives and she’s taken to the hospital for a reattachment surgery, everything should be fine. It won’t affect her future prospects.”
Upon hearing this, the other school administrators inwardly scoffed. Yi Zhiqiu was clearly not a doctor, yet he spoke with such unfounded confidence.
Both of her arms had been completely severed. Even if the ambulance arrived immediately and surgery for reattachment began without delay, it would still take at least twenty minutes.
Given such a long duration, Lin Qianyue’s hand nerves and cells would likely suffer ischemic necrosis. Even if the limbs could be reattached, the nerves would be incredibly difficult to reconnect.
Should she ever recover, merely being able to hold objects would be a significant achievement; writing would be arduous, let alone playing the piano.
Lin Qianyue’s future, in essence, had been condemned. The music teacher who brought her to the infirmary wore a deeply sorrowful expression.
Lin Qianyue had been a promising talent, and this tragic accident was an unforeseen blow.
Even the school doctor harbored reservations about Yi Zhiqiu’s remarks. However, with the principal speaking, they found it inappropriate to interject.
“No, Mr. Yi, what I mean is, was this incident a… supernatural accident?” the principal asked, his concern evident. He cared little for a student’s future, so long as they didn’t die; his only concern was his own liability.
“Indeed, it was an accident of that nature,” Yi Zhiqiu replied with certainty. If he had only suspected it before, his interaction with Lin Qianyue now made him ninety-nine percent sure.
“That’s good. Thank you, Mr. Yi. I’ll have to trouble you with the subsequent investigation.”
The principal breathed a sigh of relief. Since it was a supernatural incident, it had nothing to do with him.
The other uninformed teachers listened, utterly bewildered. What was an “accident of that nature,” and why did the principal seem relieved by Yi Zhiqiu’s judgment? Shouldn’t a safety incident, in theory, raise more serious concerns?
“Enough! If you don’t care about the students’ health and safety, and can’t offer any help, please leave. Do not interfere with my treatment. She is currently hovering between life and death, yet you are here discussing safety responsibilities. Isn’t that a matter for later?” The school doctor couldn’t help but exclaim.
The principal was about to erupt in anger when Yi Zhiqiu nodded and said, “You are right. I’ll step out immediately so as not to hinder your rescue efforts. Everyone, let’s go outside.”
The school administrators were collectively dumbfounded once more. A mere school doctor, a security consultant, dared to order them out. Yet, the principal immediately nodded in agreement, saying, “Mr. Yi is right. Everyone, let’s go outside and not disturb the school doctor saving a life.”
The group of high-ranking school officials and Yi Zhiqiu walked out together. The students immediately made way, not daring to approach the administrators. These school officials could only stand there, waiting; they couldn’t leave just yet.
Yi Zhiqiu, however, had no such reservations. He walked away directly, questioning the surrounding students about what had happened. However, those who had been present, or even those who hadn’t, couldn’t provide a coherent account.
Their minds had been constrained; they only remembered feeling extremely panicked. Then, they heard a loud bang and saw Lin Qianyue’s arm severed. Beyond that, they could offer little useful information.
Yi Zhiqiu was still pulling students aside, asking questions. Their answers were all much the same. Just then, some students shouted loudly:
“The ambulance is here!”
In front of everyone, the principal still managed to put on a facade.
He loudly directed the students to clear a path, then personally led the way for the paramedics to carefully lift Lin Qianyue onto the ambulance on a stretcher and take her away.
The students were abuzz with discussion, noting that it had been less than a month, and this was the second time an ambulance had arrived. The student who had been severely injured in the last incident, they said, was reportedly still in the hospital.
My heart stirred at their words. Cao Bao, due to the meager amount of冥币 I had given him, hadn’t been directly killed in the collision. Although the ‘life-buying money’ would automatically disappear afterward, Cao Bao should still remember the incident.
He might not immediately suspect me of foul play, as his mind had been clouded by the allure of the ‘life-buying money’ at the time. However, if he noticed the money disappearing and then mentioned how I had asked him to buy gifts, he might grow suspicious of me.
It was my first time doing something like this, and I had acted on impulse. Leaving some loopholes or not cleaning up thoroughly was inevitable. In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better to just leave the ‘life-buying money’ by the roadside for him to pick up.
Now, watching Mo Qingyan’s meticulous, yet organized and flawless operations, I truly felt the high difficulty of entering this line of work.
Just as I was deep in thought, Xiao Qing nudged my arm with her elbow and whispered, “Yi Zhiqiu is here.”
“Eh?” Only then did I notice Yi Zhiqiu walking towards us. He had seen me. Jia Cheng had vanished at some unknown point, likely having avoided him the moment he spotted Yi Zhiqiu.
Xiao Qing, however, did not leave. She stood her ground, watching Yi Zhiqiu, even subtly positioning herself in front of me.
“Xia Yubing, you’re alright, aren’t you?” Yi Zhiqiu asked with concern as he approached me. Not long ago, I had suffered some humiliation in the strange tale, and he was worried about potential after-effects.
“I’m fine, much better now.” My face flushed. I hadn’t wanted to recall the incident at all, fearing Yi Zhiqiu would discuss it directly in front of Xiao Qing.
Thankfully, Yi Zhiqiu wasn’t in the mood to dwell on the matter. He nodded and said, “That’s good. You must be Ou Zhiqing, from the Supernatural Incident Department, and a good friend of Xia Yubing’s, correct?”
“Yes,” Xiao Qing replied, still watching Yi Zhiqiu with clear wariness, which left him somewhat baffled. He could only ask, “Um, have I done anything to displease you before?”
“You often drag Sister Xia along, making her a bait to help you test various dangerous strange tales. You went again today, and Sister Xia even encountered something humiliating, didn’t she?” Xiao Qing asked, her tone somewhat peevish.
I hadn’t expected Xiao Qing to be so assertive with Yi Zhiqiu. This immediately made Yi Zhiqiu feel he was in the wrong, and he could only explain, “I merely asked Xia Yubing to assist me, and I always compensate her. She also agreed to assist.”
Xiao Qing frowned, about to say something more, but I quickly interjected, “Yes, that’s right. I voluntarily assisted Teacher Yi.”
I was still hoping to gain more from Yi Zhiqiu, so I couldn’t let Xiao Qing say anything foolish.
Yi Zhiqiu also knew this topic couldn’t be discussed further, so he directly asked, “Both of you were in the music classroom just now, right? Did you witness the incident as it happened?”
