Join the ServerMany officers, prioritizing safety, immediately emptied their magazines with their initial volley.
After such a barrage, an ordinary person would undoubtedly be dead.
Even supernatural beings would likely perish, for their ammunition was laced with a significant number of silver bullets.
Yet, Old Man Zhang remained standing.
His face, riddled with numerous gunshots, bore several bloody perforations on his forehead and cheeks.
One of his eyeballs had even been blown out.
His already twisted and grotesque features now appeared even more horrifying.
“What a warm welcome, fellow police officers,” Old Man Zhang asked, a chilling grin spreading across his face. “Was such enthusiasm truly necessary?”
Through the gaping holes in his cheeks, his stark white teeth gleamed menacingly.
‘He’s still alive! Is he even human?’ Such doubts arose in the minds of many officers.
Upon hearing his voice, the police immediately unleashed another hail of gunfire, those who had just emptied their magazines frantically reloading.
“Cease fire!” the Captain bellowed.
All the officers froze at the command, and though perplexed, they halted their assault simultaneously, a testament to their rigorous training.
“Everyone, assume a state of alert!” the Captain commanded once more.
Since bullets proved ineffective against this homicidal maniac, there was no point in wasting further ammunition.
Indeed, Old Man Zhang, though profusely bleeding from the second round of gunfire, still stood unyielding.
The skin and muscles on his body writhed, steadily expelling bullets that clattered, blood-stained, onto the floor.
“You’ve eaten human flesh, haven’t you?” Yi Zhiqiu stated, his gaze unwavering. “And quite a lot of it, otherwise you wouldn’t possess such incredible vitality.”
“Me, eat human flesh? My young friend, you jest!” Old Man Zhang chuckled, his wounds already beginning to heal as the last of the bullets were expelled from his body. “I only ever eat snake and bird meat. Why would I eat people?”
The officers’ faces turned ashen. They were well aware of similar cases, where numerous psychopathic killers, after consuming human flesh, became utterly addicted.
These individuals often deluded themselves, believing they were feasting on bear, deer, or even camel meat, never truly acknowledging the horrific truth.
“You fiend of the evil path! Do you intend to resist to the very end, or shall this old man grant you release?” The robust man in the mandarin jacket, true to his fiery temperament, strode forward, positioning himself in front of the officers, and roared at Old Man Zhang.
The floor of the cold storage was coated in a layer of ice. With each step he took, the ice cracked, leaving a deep indentation beneath his foot.
Steam continuously emanated from his body, a physical reaction caused by his rapidly rising body temperature meeting the freezing cold of the storage unit.
Seeing that the master was preparing to act, the officers collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
Despite their overwhelming numbers, facing a monster impervious to bullets, they genuinely had no idea how to react if he were to charge them.
“Resist to the end? Have I resisted? Didn’t you all ask me to walk over here?” Old Man Zhang asked calmly.
The officers paused, taken aback. It seemed he was right; aside from not raising his hands, Old Man Zhang hadn’t made any dangerous moves.
“There’s no need for sophistry. Once I subdue you, you’ll naturally be unable to resist.” The robust man in the mandarin jacket was ready to strike, his aura soaring to its peak.
“Wait! Stop!” Yi Zhiqiu suddenly shouted, causing the robust man to falter, his momentum, which had reached its zenith, momentarily checked.
“Do not touch him. Something bad might happen. Since he has no intention of resisting, simply cuff him and take him back,” Yi Zhiqiu advised.
“What are you talking about? How can we arrest him without touching him?” The robust man in the mandarin jacket clearly didn’t fully trust the young Yi Zhiqiu, but he held back from acting, instead fixing Old Man Zhang with an intensely watchful gaze.
At that moment, the old servant scattered a handful of rice into a porcelain bowl, shook it three times, observed it, and then looked up to declare, “The young man is right. Do not touch him. It would be best not to attempt to attack him either. There’s something amiss here.”
With two consultants concurring that Old Man Zhang should not be touched, the Captain had no choice but to trust their judgment.
Handling cases involving the supernatural demanded utmost caution; one could never be too careful.
However, this presented a problem: how were they to apprehend Old Man Zhang? The two sides remained in a tense standoff until Old Man Zhang broke the silence, asking, “So, do you still want me to come over?”
A serial killer behaving with such audacity in front of the police infuriated the officers, but without a direct order, they dared not act rashly.
The Captain , softening his tone, called out loudly, “If you have no intention of resisting, extend your hands forward and do not move!”
Old Man Zhang complied, extending his hands and remaining still. The Captain let out a small sigh of relief before continuing, “We now ask you to accompany us for questioning regarding the case that occurred here. As long as you do not resist, we will guarantee your legal rights.”
“Whatever,” Old Man Zhang replied.
The Captain waved his hand, and two bold officers, handcuffs in hand, cautiously approached.
The robust man in the mandarin jacket stood poised, ready to strike; should Old Man Zhang make the slightest untoward move, he would instantly send him flying with a palm strike from a distance.
Yet, Old Man Zhang remained impassive before the gleaming silver handcuffs, maintaining his dangerous, twisted grin.
Even the two officers, though remarkably brave, had prepared themselves for death as they drew near, proceeding with extreme caution.
“Be careful. Do not touch his body. Just use chains to attach to the handcuffs. Don’t even touch his clothes,” Yi Zhiqiu warned.
In the end, he offered no resistance. Old Man Zhang remained compliant until the very last.
Finally, he was led away by the police, his wrists bound in silver handcuffs. This brought a collective sigh of relief from the officers present.
However, observing his composed demeanor, the officers lacked confidence that these silver handcuffs could truly restrain him. They couldn’t shake the feeling that he could snap them at any moment with a mere flick of his wrist.
The officers led Old Man Zhang aside and proceeded to search the cold storage.
Simultaneously, they carefully brought down the deceased ghost hunters and began the on-site autopsy.
After a brief examination of the bodies, the officers’ brows furrowed in dismay. The ghost hunters’ bodies were covered in wounds.
Whether it was severed arms or the several stab wounds to the chest, all cuts were clean and precise, severing bone with a force that no ordinary human could achieve.
The most horrifying sight was the female corpse lying on the platform. Not only had Old Man Zhang murdered her, but he had also brutally disfigured her, her facial features having been carved off and rearranged in grotesque, unnatural positions.
Naturally, like the ghost hunting team before them, they found no other clues within the cold storage.
All the freezers were empty, as if they had been meticulously cleared out beforehand.
At that moment, an officer rushed into the cold storage to report to the Captain .
Apparently, while they had been confronting Old Man Zhang in the cold storage, another police unit had gone upstairs and raided Old Man Zhang’s home.
Inside his house, they discovered a barrel of chopped human bones, several jars of eyeballs preserved in liquor, and dried human organs.
The entire house reeked abominably, and the reporting officer’s face was still pale green from the experience.
Old Man Zhang’s guilt as a murderer was now essentially confirmed, and the reality was far more severe than initially imagined.
They had initially believed he had merely killed a team of ghost hunters who had trespassed into his cold storage. It was now evident that he was a serial killer.
