Chapter 200: The Piano’s Secret

The chaos persisted for a while, and the music teacher, who was closest to Lin Qianyue and had just regained her senses, hurriedly shouted, ‘Call 120! Get an ambulance!’

She seemed not to have her phone with her, so the students quickly pulled out their phones to make the call. At that moment, a voice called out, ‘Stop the bleeding! Tie a rope around her wrist! Press a clean cloth on the wound, then take her to the infirmary to stop the bleeding!’

‘Is…is that right?’ The flustered music teacher finally began to look for something to use as a tourniquet and bandage. Fortunately, a few brave and kind-hearted students had already run over to help.

A male student used an earphone cord to tie Lin Qianyue’s two arms, another student from the wind instrument section took out a cloth used for wrapping instruments to press on the wound. Then, a male student quickly picked her up and ran towards the infirmary.

Just then, that voice reminded again, ‘Bring her hands too! If treated in time, they might be reattached!’

Only then did everyone look at the still bleeding piano. Blood was continuously seeping from the gaps in the lid, making it look as if the piano itself was bleeding, which made people hesitant to approach.

However, a brave male student eventually flipped open the piano lid and saw that the two severed hands were still pressing the piano keys. He grimaced, overcoming his fear and disgust, and carefully wrapped the hands before running towards the infirmary.

I witnessed the entire process from my seat, constantly reminding everyone to rescue Lin Qianyue and bring her severed hands. It was Jia Cheng who was doing this, but he blended into the crowd, and no one noticed who was shouting.

His purpose was likely to remove the victim Lin Qianyue and her severed hands from the scene to prevent the piano’s secret from being discovered. After the rumors among students, the transformation of the taboo item, the group panic caused by the forbidden song, and the crucial event of the hands being severed and blood washing over everything, the piano’s yin energy had completely transformed into a familiar qi.

This yin energy from the piano was still spreading, centering around the piano and enveloping the entire music classroom. Soon, this classroom would become part of a ghost story. After such complicated and meticulous operations, Mo Qingyan’s plan was finally successful. She had created a ghost story, but I still didn’t know the purpose and effect of creating it, or how she would later hide the changes in the piano from Yi Zhiqiu.

Xiao Qing, who was sitting next to me, also looked pale. The scene had deeply shocked her. I gently patted her back and asked, ‘Are you alright?’

‘I’m okay, just a bit startled,’ Xiao Qing replied, her voice pale but her expression calming down. ‘Is this how Mo learnsister plans to create a ghost story?’

‘Probably,’ I replied, continuing to pat her back comfortingly, while suppressing the strange excitement within me. That thrilling feeling overwhelmed me as I watched the blood dripping from the piano.

I had felt this excitement yesterday when I saw Old Man Zhang kill someone. I even imagined how I would do it if I were the one killing, as if I were watching an action movie.

But for some reason, today’s excitement wasn’t as intense. Moreover, Lin Qianyue was my classmate, and I had some feelings for her. My sympathy and regret for her conflicted with my inner excitement, making me feel very uncomfortable.

The students who had initially attended the music class were either too scared to run out at the beginning or had followed Lin Qianyue to the infirmary. There were hardly any people left in the music room.

I took the opportunity to walk onto the stage and approach the piano, suppressing my inner excitement and carefully observing it. Xiao Qing followed me, though she was a bit frightened, she also observed the piano, wanting to understand how this tragedy had occurred.

Normally, even if the piano lid suddenly fell, it would at most hurt or break bones, but it wouldn’t sever someone’s hands. For such a result to happen, there had to be something wrong with the piano.

Now that the piano had become a ghost story, before it turned into one, Mo Qingyan had already transformed it into a taboo item. I carefully sensed the aura, and soon found a spot within the piano that still retained some yin energy.

I leaned into the piano lid to search, and Xiao Qing worriedly said, ‘Brother Xiao, you shouldn’t do this. If the piano lid falls again, your head…’

‘It’s okay,’ I replied. ‘I had the iron worms prepare in advance. If the piano lid falls, they will prop it up. Besides, I’ve found the root of the problem.’ I pointed to a corner inside the piano and said.

There lay a small box, unremarkable and hidden by the angle, making it invisible from the outside. I took it out.

‘That’s…a urn?!’ Xiao Qing quickly recognized the box. It was the taboo item placed inside the piano. I also remembered that the coffin shop did sell many urns.

But the carpenter, despite knowing taboo arts and making many wooden taboo items, never used them to harm people. The urn’s function was to seal the resentment of the deceased’s ashes.

However, this urn was continuously releasing yin energy, mixing with the familiar qi. It absorbed the school’s familiar qi and converted it into yin energy, dispersing it outward. This was similar to how maintaining a ghost story required absorbing the familiar qi from the chaotic burial ground beneath the school.

‘The real problem lies inside,’ I said. ‘Mo learnsister tampered with the urn, causing it to release yin energy.’ I tried to open the urn, which, although unlocked, wouldn’t budge.

Just then, I remembered the brass key I had obtained yesterday. I took out the key and gently touched it to the urn. Sure enough, the urn opened with a click.

‘Ssss!’ Xiao Qing sucked in a breath. Inside the urn was a severed arm, covered in dirt. The way the arm was broken looked as if it had been forcibly snapped.

‘As expected,’ I said. ‘Let me guess, this must be a bone from the chaotic burial ground, severed and placed inside, allowing it to absorb the school’s familiar qi without any hindrance.’ I turned to ask.

‘Clap! Clap! Clap!’ A round of applause echoed, and Jia Cheng stood behind me, admiringly saying, ‘As expected of the campus beauty. Even without prior knowledge, I wouldn’t have guessed so accurately.’

‘It’s Mo learnsister who’s amazing,’ I replied. ‘The bone hand from the chaotic burial ground, the taboo item urn, the cursed piano, the forbidden song causing group fear, the insect-controlled sacrifice, and the tragedy witnessed by everyone—the pieces all fit together, making it impossible not to form a ghost story.’

To me, it felt like solving a detective game, connecting all the clues to uncover the mystery, a smooth and satisfying experience.
