Chapter 182: A Disturbing Discovery in the Underground Parking Lot

After a lengthy conversation, Xiao Qing finally managed to unburden her heart, and her mood brightened considerably. The wager with me had ignited her fighting spirit, making her feel much more energetic.

Afterward, we said our goodbyes and parted ways, each returning home. Upon arriving back at Willow Cypress Estate, I had initially intended to go straight back to Building Four. However, as I reached the ground floor, the Golden Bee Gu suddenly flew out.

Within Willow Cypress Estate, the Golden Bee Gu often flew out against my will. This was because the complex frequently harbored scents that attracted it—ultimately, the qi-blood or human flesh it craved. The Golden Bee Gu instinctively desired to hunt.

I usually let it have its way. Most of the time, the Golden Bee Gu would fly to the blood-red rose garden in the center of the complex to collect nectar. This allowed it to satisfy its needs without drawing attention, killing two birds with one stone.

This time, however, the Golden Bee Gu emitted a mental fluctuation, seemingly urging me to follow it. I had no choice but to comply. I watched as the Golden Bee Gu flew straight into the entrance of the underground parking lot.

‘The underground parking lot?’ I thought.

I followed it inside. Just like yesterday, the air was thick with a damp, eerie chill. As I trailed the Golden Bee Gu, I found myself once again at the spot where Fan Yuxuan and I had spied on them that day.

A thought struck me. I lowered my footsteps, cautiously hiding behind a car, and peered toward the previous parking spot. The luxurious Mercedes was still parked in its original place, having not moved since yesterday evening.

Moreover, its trunk was open. Soon, I heard footsteps. Looking closely, I saw Ms. Liu approaching, carrying two black trash bags in each hand—a total of four—as she walked toward the car.

She reached the back of the Mercedes and tossed the trash bags into the trunk. The sound suggested they were quite heavy; it was difficult to imagine a seemingly delicate woman carrying such a load.

At this point, the Golden Bee Gu’s agitation became even more pronounced. It only settled slightly after Ms. Liu closed the trunk lid. She then pulled out her keys, unlocked the car door, and drove away.

I didn’t exhale until she had driven out of the underground parking lot. I stood up, the contents of those plastic bags now obvious. The stench of blood was so strong that even I could clearly smell it.

Coupled with the car keys, which should have been with the wealthy old man but were now in Ms. Liu’s possession, the car remaining untouched for an entire day, and the groans I’d heard yesterday, a terrifying suspicion began to form in my mind.

The Golden Bee Gu followed the Mercedes as it drove out. Near the complex entrance, Ms. Liu was stopped by the ghost hunters. One of them stepped forward, tapped on her car window, and asked, “Ma’am, what do you have in your car?”

“What I have in my car is none of your business. Get out of the way!” Ms. Liu snapped, her tone utterly ungracious.

“I smell blood. Could we search your vehicle?” the ghost hunter asked, blocking the car.

“No, I’m in a hurry. Goodbye.” With that, Ms. Liu stomped on the accelerator. The Mercedes surged forward, as if there was no one in front of it.

The two ghost hunters blocking the car had not expected her to step on the gas without a word. They quickly scrambled aside, unwilling to gamble on a female driver stopping.

Even though they were agile enough to narrowly dodge the front of the car, one of the slower ghost hunters was grazed, falling to the side. Ms. Liu simply drove off in the Mercedes, leaving them in her dust.

The ghost hunters exchanged bewildered glances. None of them had anticipated such a fierce reaction from the female driver; she had actually driven straight at them, and it wasn’t a bluff. She hadn’t slowed down in the slightest, charging directly out.

Despite their suspicions, they had only smelled blood. Even they dared not immediately jump to conclusions of murder and dismemberment. Furthermore, their instruments hadn’t reacted, and the surrounding residents were giving them hostile looks. They couldn’t forcibly stop and inspect the car.

“What should we do, Big Brother? Should we call the police directly?” one of the ghost hunters asked.

I immediately tensed. If the police came to search Ms. Liu’s home, she definitely wouldn’t escape. But as her neighbor and landlord, I would also find it difficult to evade a search.

If they really intended to call the police, I would have to transfer the calligraphy and paintings, the incense cabinet for raising ghosts, and the Pixiu talisman from my home beforehand. I wondered if Senior Sister Mo could help. Otherwise, I would have to immediately hire a moving company to transport these items to the Xia family residence.

In that instant, many thoughts raced through my mind. But before I could figure out what to do, the ghost hunter’s leader shook his head and said, “We can’t be certain, and we have no clear eyewitness evidence. The police won’t believe us. Let’s first investigate who that woman is and where she lives.”

After hearing their conversation through the Golden Bee Gu, I breathed a sigh of relief. At least they weren’t immediately thinking of calling the police.

From their subsequent conversation, I also learned that their investigation was proving extremely difficult. Initially, they had believed they could easily locate the missing person with just their ghost-catching instruments, without needing to cooperate with anyone.

However, ever since they entered this complex, their instruments had never reacted, as if they were broken. This had led to them hitting dead ends everywhere in their search.

Later, when they remembered they could ask people, the residents of the complex displayed extreme hostility toward them. Not a single person was willing to engage with them or reveal any information.

According to them, even when the police came, the residents behaved the same way. Although their attitude might be slightly better, they all claimed ignorance and refused to cooperate with the investigation, ultimately leading to the police’s inquiries going nowhere.

Ms. Liu quickly drove the Mercedes far away from Willow Cypress Estate. The Golden Bee Gu couldn’t track that far, but by then, I had already taken the elevator straight to the twelfth floor and sent the Golden Bee Gu into Ms. Liu’s home to investigate.

I had been to her home before, and now that she had definitively driven out, I could confidently send the Golden Bee Gu inside to check.

At first glance, everything appeared normal. The living room and bedroom were extremely tidy, as if a thorough cleaning had just taken place. The floor, in particular, seemed freshly mopped and was still damp.

However, the bedroom that had been converted into a pleasure room was amiss. The carpet I had seen last time was gone, leaving only the wooden floor, which had also been mopped. Upon closer inspection, splashes of blood could be seen in the corners.

A wallet and several bank cards lay on the table. I couldn’t find the wealthy man’s phone, which Ms. Liu had likely taken. There was even more blood in the bathroom. Although it had been cleaned, like after butchering a chicken, congealed bloodstains remained.

Finally, in the kitchen, this time I even saw uncleared fragments of meat. The Golden Bee Gu was particularly sensitive to these and immediately pounced, devouring the minced meat and sending me a signal of satisfaction.

Seeing all of this sent a chill down my spine. I was almost certain that the wealthy man Ms. Liu had seduced had been murdered and robbed by her, perhaps even dismembered and taken away. Could this be the “fortune” I had bestowed upon her?
