Join the ServerMy phone rang just then. Picking it up, I saw a message from Mo Qingyan.
[“If you like it, you can have it. It’s already completed its task anyway.”]
Indeed, Mo Qingyan could see everything unfolding within the music room. Having become a part of the supernatural tale, the music room was now subject to her unique methods of monitoring such phenomena.
“No need, it’s rather unsettling.”
I placed the urn back inside the piano. Although it might be a potent anti-supernatural item, it wouldn’t do for others to see it, nor would it be auspicious to keep such a thing at home.
Soon, the urn vanished. Even the malevolent aura of the entire music room contracted into the piano, then disappeared without a trace. The piano itself reverted to an ordinary instrument.
Aside from the bloodstains still clinging to the keys, the entire classroom appeared completely normal.
“Let’s go. There’s nothing left to see here. Let’s head to the infirmary and check on that poor girl,” Jia Cheng suggested.
The supernatural event had dissipated. This particular tale associated with the music room would now behave like others, only appearing when specific conditions were met. There was no point in lingering.
“Let’s go,” I nodded.
We headed towards the infirmary. Along the way, we saw many students discussing the incident. Everyone claimed the music room’s piano had crushed the girl’s arms.
Many initially disbelieved it, but with everyone repeating the same story, they had no choice but to accept it.
More people began to recount tales of the music room’s supernatural occurrences. Beyond the mysterious singing, there were rumors that once one sat at the piano, they had to play continuously without rest.
Some even claimed to have seen a ghostly orchestra, with the stories growing increasingly outlandish.
Supernatural tales often evolve this way. When nothing is happening, they remain mere topics for casual conversation after a meal. But once an incident occurs, many suddenly claim to have experienced strange things, with their accounts becoming increasingly exaggerated.
It was difficult to discern truth from falsehood. Many seized the opportunity to boast, unaware that their reckless words might spread, altering the nature of the supernatural tale, turning these fictions into reality.
Objectively, this also complicated any investigation.
As we neared the infirmary, the crowd grew denser. The area outside was teeming with people, and even the school leadership had arrived. Upon hearing that a student had suffered a safety incident, all the school leaders had rushed over.
This left the school doctor, though a certified clinician, sweating profusely. The infirmary’s conditions were poor, lacking many medical instruments. Handling such a severe injury proved too challenging for her.
Half of the infirmary bed was already stained with blood. The school doctor had painstakingly managed to stop the bleeding with tourniquets and dressings, while also disinfecting the wound. On a nearby table lay the severed hands, wrapped in gauze.
Lin Qianyue lay on the bed, her face pale from severe blood loss. The resonance of the gu worms had ceased, indicating that Bai Yue had recalled her innate gu after completing the task, leaving no trace.
The school doctor’s current task was to prevent further deterioration of the wound, ensure the patient didn’t lose more blood, and await the ambulance. Throughout this process, the school leaders were exceptionally anxious.
They incessantly questioned her about potential after-effects and possibilities of rescue, only adding to her pressure.
After observing for a while, I saw Yi Zhiqiu rushing over. He had been in the small grove at the corner of the school, researching supernatural phenomena, until the commotion reached him.
Many students had reported that something had happened, prompting his hurried arrival.
He randomly grabbed a few students on the periphery, asking what had occurred. Upon learning the details, his face darkened with a grim expression. He pushed his way through the crowd.
Many students felt an invisible wall of energy parting them. Just as they were about to turn back and curse, they saw Yi Zhiqiu’s expression and imposing aura, which silenced them, making them silently move aside.
Soon, Yi Zhiqiu entered the infirmary, which was already cramped with teachers and school leaders. Yi Zhiqiu loudly declared, “Let me see her!”
“Hmm?” The school leaders turned around. Upon seeing Yi Zhiqiu, several of them showed expressions of disdain. A vice-principal spoke, “Who do you think you are? You’re not a doctor; don’t come here to cause trouble!”
Another school leader added, “You’re just a safety consultant, not even a teacher. Why are you here? Get out quickly!”
“A safety consultant is responsible for safety issues, isn’t that right? Hasn’t a safety incident occurred now? It’s only reasonable for me to investigate,” Yi Zhiqiu retorted.
His words caused several school leaders’ faces to darken. They were already wary of safety incidents occurring at school, and now with someone’s life hanging in the balance, his talk of investigating a safety incident was practically poking at their raw nerves.
Just as they were about to retort with harsh words, the principal, who was privy to some inside information, interjected, “Mr. Yi, since you’ve come, does this mean it’s ‘that kind’ of problem?”
“I haven’t seen it yet, so it’s hard to make a judgment. But normally, a piano lid shouldn’t be able to crush someone’s hands. I need to examine it to know,” Yi Zhiqiu explained.
Upon hearing his words, the principal’s expression visibly relaxed. According to school regulations, if an incident involved safety and was deemed an unavoidable accident, the responsible parties would not be held accountable, only required to provide compensation.
“Everyone, please make some room and let Mr. Yi assess the situation. Mr. Yi, I implore you.”
Seeing the principal treat him with such deference, the other school leaders quickly made way.
Yi Zhiqiu approached the bedside. The school doctor, seeing even the principal deferring to this safety consultant, found it difficult to object. She simply said, “If you’re not treating her, then don’t touch anything carelessly.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t disturb your treatment. I’ll be quick,” Yi Zhiqiu assured her.
He gently extended a hand and lightly touched Lin Qianyue’s shoulder. Although the doctor frowned deeply, she did not stop him.
Yi Zhiqiu quickly retracted his hand. I understood then: in that instant, Yi Zhiqiu had channeled a surge of vital energy into Lin Qianyue’s body, protecting her heart meridians and preventing her from dying due to excessive blood loss.
“Are these her crushed hands?” Yi Zhiqiu then moved to the table, looking at the bundle wrapped in gauze, which was already soaked red with blood.
“Please don’t touch them carelessly. I went through great trouble to preserve them. As long as the damage isn’t too severe, there’s still a certain chance the severed hands can be reattached,” the school doctor cautioned again.
“My apologies, but this is necessary for the investigation. I must see them, please rest assured,” Yi Zhiqiu said, opening the white cloth wrapping. Inside, he saw two small, delicate hands.
He reached out again, touching each one and sending a surge of true qi to maintain their vitality, before rewrapping them in gauze.
