“How peculiar, for there to be not a single sound.”
No sooner had she stepped into the frozen street than Liu Xingluo sensed something was amiss.
A battle between Superhumans and Evolved Beasts, by all accounts, should not have been utterly silent; even a swift, one-sided annihilation would typically generate a certain degree of commotion.
Yet, the silence here was absolute, deathly still, and the persistent chill emanating from the ice only served to heighten Liu Xingluo’s apprehension.
The sensation was akin to being immersed in a horror game, alone, in the dead of night.
No, the terror it evoked surpassed even that of a horror game.
For this was not a game world but reality itself; to be eliminated here meant true demise, with no possibility of revival.
“Lain, can you come out and protect me?”
Alone, Liu Xingluo was overwhelmed by fear.
At such a moment, the presence of someone by her side would offer a measure of comfort.
Furthermore, Lain himself had stated his duty was to protect her, making her call for him entirely natural.
“Of course, protecting Her Royal Highness is my duty.”
Lain immediately answered Liu Xingluo’s summons, materializing beside her.
“Thank you, I’m so glad you’re here.
Speaking of which, Lain, do you have a way to locate the Sixth Princess here?”
Given the absence of any signs of battle, Liu Xingluo had no choice but to actively seek out her target, the Sixth Princess.
She reasoned that other Superhumans would undoubtedly be targeting her as well, so finding the Sixth Princess would surely lead her to converge with the other Superhumans, allowing them to face the enemy together.
“I’m afraid that won’t be possible; search capabilities are not my forte.
However, there’s no need to worry; if Her Royal Highness the Seventh Princess wishes to find Her Royal Highness the Sixth Princess, there’s no need for a special search.
Her Royal Highness the Sixth Princess has undoubtedly already detected our presence and is currently on her way here.”
“Ah? How would she know our location?”
Glancing around, Liu Xingluo couldn’t spot anything that could possibly reveal her position.
“By these very ice formations, of course; have you already forgotten, little sister?”
Hearing a voice from behind, Liu Xingluo quickly turned to assess the situation.
In that very instant she turned, she found herself enveloped in Jidi’s embrace, and not only that, Jidi was vigorously rubbing her face against Liu Xingluo’s.
“Eek! Wait, wait, you’re too close!”
Startled by the sudden embrace, Liu Xingluo quickly struggled free and retreated, stopping only when a safe distance separated her from Jidi.
That was a close call; thankfully, the Sixth Princess had only hugged her and rubbed her face.
Had she launched an attack, Liu Xingluo would likely have been finished.
Her appearance, however, was precisely as Liu Xingluo had imagined: from the outside, she looked identical to Liu Xingluo’s current self, differing only in eye color.
“Hmm? Little sister, what’s wrong?
Normally, you love my hugs, don’t you?
Why did you run away just now?”
Before their departure, Yinlang had mentioned that their little sister was acting strangely, but Jidi hadn’t paid it much mind then.
It was only when Liu Xingluo fled her embrace that Jidi realized her little sister had indeed changed from her usual self.
It wasn’t just a slight change; it felt as though her little sister had become an entirely different person.
“That’s because you startled me with a hug right away, which is why I fled.”
Yet, she had just mentioned that she knew Liu Xingluo’s location through the ice covering the streets.
Did this ice possess such capabilities?
Truly befitting a princess; even ice should not be underestimated.
“Is that so?
Well, that’s also because you, little sister, came to the human world without a word, and I missed you so much that I couldn’t help but hug you the moment I saw you.”
Finishing her words, Jidi even put on a wronged expression, as if everything that had just transpired was entirely Liu Xingluo’s fault.
“Then I truly apologize.
But, older sister, what are you doing here?
Why have you frozen everything?”
Knowing that she, who hadn’t fully mastered this body, was no match for the Sixth Princess, Liu Xingluo could only try her best to stall for time, awaiting the arrival of other Superhumans for support.
Once reinforcements arrived, everything would be fine.
“Why, to destroy humanity, of course.
Little sister, you probably don’t know yet, but Father, who has always detested these weak human children, has finally allowed us princesses to act, and I was the first to be chosen.
You wouldn’t believe how amusing Third Sister looked when she got angry; in the end, Second Sister, seeing things were about to escalate, joined Fifth Sister in restraining Third Sister.”
“Then, older sister, since you arrived here, have you not encountered anyone capable of fighting you?”
If Liu Xingluo was the first to arrive, then the absence of battle sounds would be understandable.
However, when Huang Yan called her, he had mentioned sending all the Superhumans in the city to gather and confront Jidi.
If Liu Xingluo was truly the first to arrive, his statement simply didn’t make sense.
Wait… could Huang Yan have deliberately sent her here?
To have her converge with Jidi, and then for him to unleash all the Superhumans to eliminate both her and Jidi.
After all, she was originally human but now also a half-Evolved Beast; keeping her around was ultimately unsafe, so it was best to deal with her sooner rather than later.
“Capable of fighting me?
How could that be?
I haven’t encountered a single human like that since I first came to this world.”
Jidi’s words further validated Liu Xingluo’s suspicion.
Indeed, she had been called here only to be eliminated alongside this princess.
However, Jidi’s next words dispelled Liu Xingluo’s conjecture.
“There have been quite a few annoying humans, though.
Those who wielded strange weapons, I believe they were called ‘guns’?
Let’s set aside those humans for now, as they were too weak.
After I dealt with them, many more humans emerged who could use various abilities; an ordinary beast would easily be defeated by them.
But unfortunately, they faced me, one who inherited the powers of both Father and Mother.
How could I possibly be defeated by mere humans who rely on a tiny fraction of power bestowed upon them by Mother?
So, I effortlessly killed them all.”
“All of them?”
Hearing that Jidi had single-handedly eliminated all the Superhumans who had arrived before her, Liu Xingluo was slightly stunned.
While she had considered the possibility of a princess defeating all Superhumans alone, this was even faster than she had imagined.
No wonder she hadn’t heard any sounds of battle; so that was the explanation.
“Yes, all of them.
For me, killing them was utterly effortless.
Consider it revenge for Mother abandoning us back then.
But little sister, what is with your attire?
Those humans from earlier were dressed similarly to you, and their clothes also reeked of a beastly scent.
Such clothing is utterly demeaning and unfitting for a princess.
You should take it off immediately.”
Looking at Liu Xingluo’s uniform, Jidi pinched her nose and waved her hand repeatedly, attempting to dissipate the scent.
Truly, what had happened to her little sister, to willingly wear such disgusting clothes?
If it were Jidi herself, she would rather die than put on such an outfit.
