Chapter 68: An Urgent Summons and a Reluctant Battle

“I’m sorry, big sister, but I need to take this call first. It’s probably work-related.”

Having explained the situation to Liu Ruyan, Liu Xingluo darted into the cinema corridor, where taking a call wouldn’t disturb those watching the movie or be drowned out by its sounds.

Ideally, Liu Xingluo would have preferred to answer the call later, as the movie was just reaching its climax, and missing it felt like a terrible waste. Yet, if it was a work call, it was even more imperative not to miss it.

‘This had better be a work call, or I swear I’ll curse your ancestors for eighteen generations.’

She had sacrificed the movie to answer this call, so it had better provide her with commensurate value. Otherwise, even the usually gentle Liu Xingluo would be driven to scolding. After taking a deep breath, she finally answered the phone.

“Hello, you—”

“Is this Liu Xingluo? I’m Huang Yan, the director of Sawamei City’s Evolved Beast (TL Note: A type of monster or creature in this fictional world, often with supernatural abilities.) Department. The situation is urgent, so I’ll be direct: we desperately need your strength. A tremendously powerful Evolved Beast has appeared in the K2 District. Though we dispatched every Superhuman (TL Note: Individuals possessing supernatural powers.) in the city to fight it, they were all defeated and brutally slaughtered. We have no choice but to turn to you now; please, we beg you.”

Before Liu Xingluo could finish her sentence, the person on the other end of the line rattled off the purpose of their call in a single breath. His voice conveyed such intense anxiety that it was clear the situation was dire. Had there been any other option, he wouldn’t have sought out Liu Xingluo.

“Wait, wait, wait. Are you saying every Superhuman in Sawamei City was killed by that one Evolved Beast? That Evolved Beast wouldn’t happen to look exactly like a human, would it? And even look exactly like me?”

To be honest, hearing that all the city’s Superhumans had been single-handedly wiped out by an Evolved Beast made Liu Xingluo wonder if her ears had deceived her. These were the very Superhumans who, thirteen years ago, had driven an entire Evolved Beast legion to the Antarctic and annihilated them. A single Superhuman was usually enough to instantly kill an Evolved Beast; how could an entire city’s worth of Superhumans, gathered together, be unable to defeat just one?

However, Liu Xingluo quickly realized that she knew of an Evolved Beast capable of defeating multiple Superhumans. Not only did she know of it, but she had also witnessed it firsthand.

It was the Princess she had encountered in another world, whom Lain had identified as the Fifth Princess. Since she hadn’t fought her, Liu Xingluo didn’t know the true extent of the Princess’s power, but Lain had mentioned that the Princesses possessed immense strength, so formidable that even if humanity united, they would be no match for them.

Furthermore, she had learned at that time that the Sixth Princess was about to arrive in the human world, and she had relayed this information to Li Bai for her to report to the higher-ups. If it was indeed the Sixth Princess, such a feat would not be surprising.

“Yes, that Evolved Beast bears an identical resemblance to you. Is there some connection between you and it?”

“Sort of. I understand the situation, but I’m most likely no match for that Evolved Beast. You should quickly seek help from the Evolved Beast departments in other cities.”

If her opponent was the Sixth Princess, Liu Xingluo couldn’t easily engage in battle. The woman who called herself her mother had once told her that if she fought those Princesses, she would never be able to return to a normal life. Moreover, this was an opponent that Superhumans from two cities combined couldn’t defeat; what good would a person who had only become a half-Evolved Beast less than a week ago be? It would be better to quickly request aid from other cities. With so many Superhumans in the world, relying on numerical superiority might just be enough to overwhelm the Sixth Princess.

“I’ve already sent out distress signals to other cities. But it will take some time for them to arrive. So please, we beg you, even if it’s just to buy us some time, go and fight that Evolved Beast. If no one stops her, the entire city is projected to be frozen in about three hours.”

Liu Xingluo was now the only remaining force in the city capable of confronting that Evolved Beast. If she refused to fight, the city would face annihilation.

“Just to buy time? Alright, then. However, I’m currently at the shopping center in the B5 District, and it will take a considerable amount of time to reach the K2 District. Is that acceptable?”

The B and K Districts were simply too far apart. Even with Liu Xingluo’s nearly infinite stamina and speed faster than a car, it would still take a significant amount of time to reach the Evolved Beast’s location from here.

“It’s perfectly fine. Your agreement is all that matters. I’ll have an ace driver from our transport department come to you; you can ride with her. Her name is Reina, a girl with short yellow hair, and she rides a motorcycle, wearing the transport team’s uniform. She’s easy to spot. She should arrive at your location within five minutes.”

“I see, I understand. Just to confirm, I only need to buy time, right? I can’t actually defeat that Evolved Beast, you know.”

“Ah… yes, just buy time until the reinforcements from other cities arrive. Then, we’re counting on you!”

Hanging up the phone, Liu Xingluo let out a long sigh.

‘I don’t want to go, I really don’t want to go. Those Princesses are truly something; why are they in such a hurry? I’ve only just fused with the Seventh Princess three or four days ago, and I haven’t even fully mastered this body, yet they’re already here to destroy humanity. It’s like a demon lord blocking the entrance to the novice village.’

Fortunately, she only needed to buy time, not fight the Sixth Princess to the death. If it was just buying time, she could manage that.

For now, though, she should head outside the shopping center to wait for the woman named Reina. Oh, right, before leaving, she needed to tell her sister to escape early.

“Big sister, I just got a call saying an Evolved Beast appeared in the K2 District, and they need me to go there to buy time. You should go hide in the underground shelter as soon as possible.”

Since the Evolved Beast’s impact hadn’t yet spread to the B5 District, no alarms had been sounded there. However, considering the Sixth Princess’s ability to defeat all other Superhumans, it was only a matter of time before this area became dangerous. It was best to have Liu Ruyan flee to a safer place while she still could.

“What? The K2 District? Isn’t that still very far from here? Why do I need to hide now? And why do *you* have to handle it? Where are the other Superhumans? Where have they all gone?”

Liu Ruyan couldn’t understand. An Evolved Beast disaster happened so far away in the K2 District, yet Liu Xingluo, a newcomer, was being sent to deal with it? If she remembered correctly, Sawamei City should have a substantial reserve of Superhumans; they shouldn’t be so short-handed.

“Sigh. That Evolved Beast is very strong, which is why they need me to go. But I’m not confident I can handle it, and it’s possible this place could be attacked by the Evolved Beast too, so big sister, you should hurry and hide. Don’t worry about the movie for now. The transport department’s person will be here soon, so I won’t say anything more. I’m leaving now.”

Having said this, Liu Xingluo left the cinema. Her goal of explaining the situation to her sister and getting her to evacuate early had been achieved. As for the other people in the cinema and the shopping center, Liu Xingluo wasn’t overly concerned. Even if she told them to evacuate now, probably few would listen to her. After all, it was still peaceful here. In any case, when the Evolved Beast posed a threat to this area, specialized personnel would surely come to instruct them to take shelter. She would focus on confronting her other “sister” instead.
