Join the ServerOur company is connected to the entertainment industry… and I guess I did become a screenwriter… but does that even count as “in the industry”? I’m still just an office worker with a weird side hustle…
Anyway, Kwak Seon-woo was losing his mind over Doyoon actually answering questions.
Doyoon added calmly, “They’re insanely kind. Heart… body… face… everything.”
My jaw dropped.
Seon-woo and Ah-young’s eyes went comically wide too.
After a stunned beat, Seon-woo asked, “Wow, straight fire. So… your partner literally has no flaws?”
“…Flaws?”
Doyoon paused mid-steak-cut, head tilted like he was solving world hunger.
All three of us stopped eating, waiting.
My heart was pounding.
What the hell are we even doing right now.
The longer he took, the more nervous I got.
Why the dramatic pause? Just say “no flaws”! Did I do something wrong lately?
Finally he went, “Ah—” like a lightbulb went off.
“They’re a little oblivious. But it’s cute.”
I let out the biggest sigh of relief known to man.
Seon-woo squealed like a middle-schooler meeting his favorite teacher.
“Ugh, you’re so whipped! Introduce us later~!”
Ah-young jumped in. “Double dates would be so fun!”
I came back to earth and elbowed Doyoon hard.
“Why are you suddenly saying all this useless stuff?”
Seon-woo turned to me. “Wait—have you met Director Choi’s girlfriend?”
Before I could answer, Doyoon smoothly cut in.
“She’s American.”
Like it was totally normal that I hadn’t met her.
Seon-woo’s eyes became dinner plates, then he suddenly bowed 90 degrees.
“Director, from today on you are my hyung-nim.”
Ah-young’s jaw hit the table.
I was horrified—for completely different reasons.
Me? American? Technically true, but—Choi Doyoon, you absolute madman.
I mouthed at him, furious: “YAH!”
He mouthed back, smug: “Nothing I said was wrong.”
The man was a linguistic ninja—zero lies, maximum chaos.
By tomorrow the rumor would be that Choi Doyoon is dating a tall, blonde, blue-eyed Hollywood bombshell.
He never once said the word “blonde.”
My head spun.
I never expected him to go this hard.
But Seon-woo and Ah-young were fully imagining some fictional goddess, and Doyoon’s answers were flawless. He was just doing exactly what I’d asked.
So why did I feel so weird?
I fake-coughed aggressively—shut up already—but Seon-woo took it as an invitation.
“What about you, Seunghyun-ssi? No dating?”
“…Why do you care.”
“Tell us, Hyung is curious too.”
Doyoon jumped in instantly, eyes sparkling.
This sly fox wanted to hear me talk about him.
Seon-woo grinned like a hyena.
“Sounds like there’s a story~ You never even told the director? I mean, you’re kind of old-fashioned, but I didn’t know you kept things from your little brother.”
I got randomly pissed and shoved salad in my mouth.
“Just someone younger. Childish.”
“Ooh, how much younger?”
“Seven years…”
Seon-woo’s mouth opened wider than when he heard “American girlfriend.”
Ah-young’s eyes bulged.
After a beat, Seon-woo gave me a huge thumbs-up.
“Legend…!”
I instantly regretted speaking.
Too late.
“Mr. High-and-Mighty acting all pure, but dating a seven-years-younger girl? The quiet cat climbs the stove first! Damn—does she have friends?”
Doyoon bit his lip, barely holding in laughter, and added,
“Yeah, Hyung is seriously impressive.”
I glared murder at him. He was having the time of his life.
Then Seon-woo snapped his fingers.
“Right~ You always gave off major younger-girl killer vibes. Super nice to the baby staff!”
Doyoon’s sunny smile froze solid—like the Arctic just moved indoors.
A chill ran down my spine.
I rushed, “When did I ever—”
Too late.
“Because that’s why I was so sure you and Ji-an-ssi would end up together.”
My blood stopped.
Doyoon’s face went full blank-mask.
Why the hell did he have to bring up Bae Ji-an of all people?
That name was a nuclear trigger for both of us.
And then—even Ah-young, who I trusted—added,
“Yeah… I kinda thought that too. You two looked so good together. And back when she was a newbie you took such good care of her…”
Cold sweat poured.
I started stabbing cherry tomatoes like they owed me money, hands shaking.
I forced a laugh. “She was on maternity leave, of course I—”
Seon-woo shrugged. “Anyway, you matched in the past. Ah-young agrees.”
“Nine years is a crime,” I said firmly.
He smirked. “But seven years is legal?”
“…”
He was having the time of his life watching me squirm.
The colder he laughed, the more icy wind blew from the guy beside me.
Kwak Seon-woo—professional mine-stepper.
The lunch ended on a “great” note.
Doyoon barely spoke after that.
Sure enough, the second we got home that evening he started whining.
“Hyung looked so good with Bae Ji-an, came home early today, huh…?”
“It wasn’t like that.”
“I didn’t know Hyung was that into younger girls. And yet you fake-engaged someone older.”
“I told you, I only did that to help Julia—”
He stood a deliberate distance away.
“You helped because you liked her. You didn’t have to. She picked you because she knew you used to like her, right?”
“That’s not—”
I shut up.
He wasn’t completely wrong.
The real reason I agreed to the fake engagement? I was terrified Doyoon would literally kill me if I didn’t create an escape route.
Obviously I couldn’t say that.
He’d cry for three days and stop eating.
My head throbbed just thinking about it.
When I didn’t defend myself, he glared harder.
“You really just go for pretty faces, don’t you?”
I blinked, baffled.
Kwak Seon-woo lit the fire—why am I the one putting it out?!
Anything I said now would be twisted.
I cleared my throat, went full shameless.
“…So you don’t like that? You jealous, pretty boy Choi Doyoon?”
