Join the ServerSeunghyun woke up in a daze.
Soft sunlight leaked through the curtains. His whole body felt like he’d run a marathon—refreshed, yet every muscle screamed. What the hell did I do yeste—
“AGH!”
The second he tried to sit up, pain exploded everywhere. He collapsed back with the most undignified yelp known to man.
His throat felt shredded. Then the memories flooded in: the table, the walking, the passing out, the vague memory of Doyoon carrying him to the shower while he was half-dead.
He peeked under the blanket. Fresh sheets. Clean between his legs. Still naked.
“You could’ve at least put clothes on me, you animal…”
He was covered in bite marks and hickeys like a crime scene.
He closed his eyes again.
“Nope. Not dealing with this.”
Thank god Doyoon wasn’t beside him.
He rubbed his temples, trying to erase last night. The harder he pressed, the clearer the flashbacks got.
I’m never doing anything “special” again. Never. Twenty-something stamina vs thirty-something stamina is not a fair fight.
The door opened.
“Hyung, you’re awake?”
Doyoon rushed in holding a glass of water, shirtless, only pajama pants. The scratch marks on his shoulders and chest made him look like he’d survived a lion attack.
Seunghyun turned his head so fast he almost got whiplash.
Doyoon set the glass down, slid an arm under his back like it was the most natural thing in the world, propped him up with extra pillows, then knelt politely beside the bed and offered the water with both hands.
…
The perfect boyfriend service pissed Seunghyun off more than anything.
He chugged the water. Finally his throat worked.
He turned to yell.
“You absolute—”
Couldn’t finish.
Doyoon had pressed his fingertips to his lips, eyes already glistening like he was staring at a miracle.
Seunghyun deadpanned, “…Pretty sure I’m the one who should be crying right now.”
Doyoon’s voice cracked. “I opened my eyes and you were still here. I’m so happy.”
Seunghyun stared. Did he use up all his brain cells yesterday? Of course I’m still here, you maniac.
He snapped, “Stop crying, you’re annoying me.”
“Sorry…”
Doyoon sniffled, wiping tears like he’d just seen the Mona Lisa.
Seunghyun sighed. “…Where exactly was I supposed to go? I can’t even stand.”
Doyoon’s face fell. “Sorry…”
Then he started talking, still kneeling.
“When I was little… I used to dream about this. About us. A lot.”
“I know.”
“But in the dreams you were different. You hated me. Told me I never should’ve been born, that I was a stain on the family, that I was disgusting… exactly like the first time we met.”
Seunghyun flinched. That was before he’d transmigrated into this body.
He muttered, “…Weird dreams.”
“Probably because I did bad things in them.”
Doyoon gave a bitter smile.
“Every time I woke up, you were gone. I tried everything in the dreams to keep you—chains, debts, anything. Once I even made you owe me so much you… you chose to leave forever.”
Seunghyun’s face hardened. That was the original novel’s ending.
Doyoon looked down.
“But today you were really here. It finally felt real. I’m so happy.”
Silence.
Seunghyun stared at Doyoon’s sunlit profile, then crooked a finger.
Doyoon eagerly leaned in.
Flick!
A finger bullet to the forehead—loud as a watermelon cracking.
“OW!”
Doyoon rolled onto the floor, clutching the instant red lump.
“Hyung?!”
Tears of pain sprang to his eyes.
Seunghyun glared, cheeks pink.
“Too many dreams fried your brain. This is reality.”
He yanked the blanket off, revealing his bruised, bitten body.
“Look what you did to me, you lunatic! I can’t even walk—this is your reality!”
Doyoon sat on the floor, cradling his forehead, then slowly nodded like he’d received divine revelation.
A second later he crawled back on his knees, eyes shining.
“Hyung… yesterday’s birthday present was the best thing in my entire life.”
Seunghyun’s glare softened a fraction.
Doyoon pushed his luck, voice tiny and hopeful.
“…Was it only good for me?”
Cheeky, certain, sparkling eyes.
Seunghyun looked away, ears flaming.
“…Dunno.”
Doyoon whispered, “Then…”
Rustle rustle behind him.
Seunghyun refused to turn—until the rustling wouldn’t stop.
He whipped around.
Doyoon was holding up two items like sacred relics: the giant pink ribbon headband (worn for exactly five seconds yesterday) and the white shirt that had been ripped off and discarded like trash.
He offered them with the shy smile of a new bride.
“…Can we do it one more time? Just until you know for sure?”
Seunghyun’s jaw dropped.
“…Don’t you have work? It’s Friday.”
“On vacation. Vice Chairman’s approval.”
Seunghyun went pale.
“WHY?!”
“Something about my birthday?”
Seunghyun looked like he’d been betrayed by the universe.
“That woman told me to get you a nice present, not—!”
Doyoon’s smile lit up the room.
“Best birthday present ever.”
Three days and four nights later—after much coaxing, begging, and a frankly embarrassing amount of negotiating—Choi Doyoon officially had the longest, happiest birthday in recorded history.
