Chapter 132: Absolutely Disgusting

“—What the hell!!”

Like someone had installed a spring under her butt, Lin Yu boinged straight up from the sofa.

“Impossible! Absolutely impossible!!”

Her face flushed bright red as she flailed her arms around, like she was trying to swat away invisible filth. Her voice shot up an octave:

“Immerse my ass!! Who would immerse themselves in this humiliating life where I have to run around in a skirt and get exploited by you capitalists?!”

“I’m doing it for survival! For paying the mortgage! For food! Do you understand?! It’s called endurance! It’s called swallowing humiliation and biding my time!”

“Okay okay, endurance, humiliation, perseverance.”

Manager Qian soothed her like calming a child, waving a hand.

“Sit down, sit down. Don’t get so worked up. You’ll scratch the brand-new floor.”

Clearly, she had been deeply offended by the whole “middle-aged man with a girl’s heart” theory.

“Anyway, that was just a bold guess based on the data. Might not be true. Just take it as reference.”

He rubbed his chin and added:

“Besides, that theory has one fatal flaw. Completely unexplainable.”

Lin Yu’s ears twitched. She glared:

“What flaw?”

“Time.”

Manager Qian spread his hands.

“If your ‘middle-aged man with a girl’s heart’ were the cause, you should’ve shown signs the moment you joined. It’s not like your craving-for-love heart suddenly sprouted yesterday, right?”

Lin Yu nodded.

“But in reality? When you first joined, your stats were tragic. The rejection between you and this body was like pouring Coke into milk. Forget synchronization rate—being able to walk without tripping was already a miracle.”

Hearing that, Lin Yu finally felt her soul return to her body.

Whew… I knew it!

She exhaled, wiping her cold sweat.

So it WAS the pollution mutation…
It had NOTHING to do with psychological perversion!

As long as she wasn’t actually some deviant…
This was a matter of PRINCIPLE.

But—

Manager Qian didn’t linger. His sharp eyes focused on Lin Yu again.

“Since we’ve ruled out natural talent… that leaves only one truth.”

He leaned forward, lowering his voice mysteriously:

“Tell me the truth…
During this period—especially before your battle with 【The Tainted Bride】…
Did something special happen to you?”

“Special…?”

Lin Yu blinked.

“Yes. Something emotionally intense? Something that broke your psychological limit? Some trigger that… forced open your mental channels?”

Manager Qian guided gently:

“Could it be that… something happened that forced your synchronization rate to rise? Like you actually opened your Ren and Du meridians?”

Something… happened?

Lin Yu’s gaze unfocused.

Her mind began rewinding.

These days…

What happened?

Runaway girl…
Co-living…
And then—

—SLAP!!

A crisp, loud smack exploded in the room.

“—HOLY SH—!!”

Manager Qian nearly dropped his coffee. The cup jerked violently, splashing dark liquid onto his expensive tailored suit pants.

He didn’t even care about the pants.

Because right in front of him—

The girl who had been quietly reminiscing had suddenly slapped herself.
HARD.

Five bright red fingerprints appeared on her soft, pale cheek.

“Xiao Lin?! What’s that for? If you don’t want overtime, just say so! Don’t self-harm!!”

“DISGUSTING!!”

Lin Yu clutched her head, curling up on the sofa like she was trying to squeeze herself into the cracks.

She let out a broken scream:

“Too disgusting! Not just disgusting!! It’s EXTREMELY disgusting!!”

She scrubbed her lips furiously with the back of her hand, as if trying to wipe off some permanent poison.

I’m not clean anymore…
I’m seriously not clean anymore!!

I actually recalled…
THAT kind of thing…

And I even felt…
A tiny little bit…

“AHHHHHHHH I DON’T WANT TO LIVE ANYMORE!!!”

Seeing her spiraling into complete mental collapse, Manager Qian didn’t know what happened—
but his salaryman intuition screamed: something emotional and traumatic happened.

“Okay okay! Disgusting! Very disgusting! The world is full of malice!”

He tossed aside the coffee cup and grabbed tissues, gently wiping her face like coaxing a toddler.

“Alright, alright, stop thinking about it. Let’s forget all those terrible things, okay?”

“Come on, deep breaths. Inhale… exhale…”

Under his kindergarten-teacher-level soothing, Lin Yu finally calmed down.

Sort of.

She hugged her knees in the corner of the sofa, staring blankly while murmuring “not clean anymore” and “I’ve sinned” like a broken salted fish.

Her eyes were open, but her soul had logged out.

Manager Qian sighed helplessly.

Young people nowadays…
One emotional hit and they blue-screen.

He checked his watch. This couldn’t go on forever.

“Ahem…”

He cleared his throat.

Time to use the final weapon.

Lowering his voice, he whispered near her ear:

“Okay okay, stop questioning life. It’s about time…
Wanna see something really nice?”

No reaction.

Not even a blink.

Manager Qian wasn’t discouraged.

He stood up slowly and muttered loudly on purpose:

“Ah, what a pity…
That exclusive weapon the Tech Development Bureau spent several sleepless nights building…
Since no one’s coming to look… I guess I’ll just—”

—WHOOSH.

Before he could finish—

The previously dead-fish Lin Yu resurrected on the spot.

Her ears twitched.
Her head shot up.
Her eyes sparkled with pure, burning desire:

“…Lead the way.”
