Chapter 150: The Awakening of Violence

Well then—after all that trouble, it turns out the organizers didn’t run off with the money after all…
They were physically taken over?

Lin Yu yanked her head back from the crack in the door as if electrocuted, pressing her back against the icy wall, her heart pounding wildly.

“Those guys with their mouths sewn shut… don’t tell me body-mod surgery has gotten this hardcore now?”

Terrorists?
Have modern human-modification procedures really become this extreme?

As a citizen of Xinhai City, Lin Yu was no stranger to the term terrorist attack.
After all, this super-metropolis was like a giant magnet, constantly drawing the envy and prying eyes of foreign forces.
Every few years, some lunatic would pop up, trying to make a “big headline.”

But this time, something was clearly off.

“Terrorists? Heh…”

Li Qing, crouching nearby, let out a disdainful snort.
Her lively fox-like eyes narrowed slightly, glinting with danger.

“Senior, have you ever seen terrorists with nothing better to do than sew their own mouths shut with coarse hemp thread like that?”

“If they were just gun-toting terrorists, I’d have transformed already and blasted them into scraps. But this situation…”
She paused, lips curling.
“…is a bit troublesome.”

Li Qing flared her small nose, sniffing the air like a perfume critic.
Then she frowned in disgust, waving her hand in front of her face.

“Smell that? That sickly-sweet stench that makes you want to puke…
Besides the fishy odor of the [Siren Jellyfish], those guards are also giving off a strong reek of something else—
the scent of [Lust Corruption].”

“Huh? Lust Corruption? Isn’t that just a pollution classification?”
Lin Yu looked utterly confused.

“Not just pollution.”

Li Qing dropped her usual playful tone, lowering her voice.

“They’re still human—but their souls have been deeply eroded by chaos. They willingly became puppets and claws of monsters.
In our line of work, we usually call them—[The Fallen].”

“Th-the Fallen…?”

A chill crawled up Lin Yu’s spine.
She remembered the term—Chen Bing had mentioned it during the aquarium incident.

“But… why would something like that appear on such a large scale at a convention?
And that D-rank Siren Jellyfish—why aren’t our terminals reacting at all?
Did the company’s radar all collectively clock out?”

“It’s not a problem with the equipment.”

Yano Hotaru, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke.

She hugged her one-eyed teddy bear tightly, her gaze passing through the dim corridor toward the domed ceiling above, where a faint rumbling echoed.

“It’s the rain.”

“The rain?”
Lin Yu froze.

“This rain is wrong.”

Hotaru raised a finger, pointing at the ceiling. Her voice was calm but firm.

“Ever since the rain started, the magnetic field here has been distorted.
All information flow and spiritual-energy detection has been blocked by that thick curtain of water.
The entire exhibition center has become… an isolated island.

“To be able to manipulate the weather, bring down a Barrier Rain capable of blocking spiritual perception,
and silently infiltrate this many Fallen into the security system…”

Slowly, Yano Hotaru turned her head.
In her heterochromatic eyes flickered a gravity never seen before.

“In Xinhai City, there’s only one organization with this kind of capability—and this kind of twisted taste.”

She paused, then spoke the name, heavy with the scent of blood:

“—The Abyss Gospel Society.”

“Beep. Beep. Beep…”

The busy tone coming from the receiver was maddening.

Outside the exhibition center, in the open-air parking lot, rain poured down in sheets.
Luo Shaotian sat in his slightly battered car, the wipers thrashing wildly, yet unable to clear the endless curtain of water.

“Still no signal?”

He irritably tossed his phone onto the passenger seat and looked outside.

Too quiet.

This road was a main route into the city center. Even during a storm, there should’ve been traffic at this hour.
But now, the entire parking lot was empty—nothing but pale streaks of rain.

Not a single soul in sight.

A chill called wrongness crept up his spine.

“That kid Xiaohu… don’t tell me something happened to him?”

Luo Shaotian couldn’t sit still anymore.
He pulled a black straight-handled umbrella from the storage compartment, shoved open the car door, and stepped into the storm.

He hadn’t taken more than a few steps when two figures in black raincoats emerged soundlessly from the rain, like ghosts lying in wait, blocking his path.

“Sorry, sir. No entry beyond this point.”

Luo Shaotian narrowed his eyes. Something felt off.

They wore security caps, but their posture and gaze were nothing like trained guards.
Instead, they radiated the crude menace of street thugs.

“That’s right, sir. The exhibition center is hosting a closed event. Unauthorized personnel are not allowed in.”

The one in front was slightly overweight, his face plastered with a professional fake smile—
but his eyes were locked tightly on Luo Shaotian.

“Oh… I see.”

Luo Shaotian casually changed his tone, sounding troubled.

“I’m here to pick up a friend. He’s inside attending the convention. His phone won’t go through.
How about this—I won’t go in, or I can buy a ticket on the spot?”

“Tch, you deaf or what?”

Before the fat man could respond, the skinny guard beside him snapped impatiently.

“No ticket, got it?! Wherever you came from, piss off back there! Stop wasting our time!”

As he spoke, he arrogantly jabbed a finger toward Luo Shaotian’s chest.

“Get lost! You hear me?! Or don’t blame me for getting rough!”

Luo Shaotian glanced down at the finger nearly poking his nose, his brow creasing slightly.

“Brother, we can talk this out. Getting handsy isn’t very polite.”

“Polite? Polite my ass!”

The skinny man’s face twisted viciously.

“So what if I touch you, huh?! Kid! Even if I slap you right now, what the hell can you do about it?!”

Cursing, he raised his hand, actually about to swing at Luo Shaotian’s face.

Whoosh—

In that instant, Luo Shaotian felt the blood in his body ignite.

Ever since taking that drug called “Lulu,” he thought the beast named Violence had fallen asleep.
But now—when the skinny man’s filthy words drilled into his ears—

That familiar, bone-shaking heat awakened once more.

(He’s provoking you.)
(He’s humiliating you.)
(Break his hands! Crush his bones! Make him regret ever being born!)

A voice whispered deep in his mind.

Luo Shaotian tried to suppress it. Tried to step back.
But his body moved faster than his reason.

“You… say that again?”

His voice dropped, hoarse and feral.

“I said it! What are you gonna do about it?”

The skinny guard leaned in recklessly, completely oblivious to danger.

“Come on! Hit me right here! You dare touch me even once—”

“Smack—!”

A sharp crack exploded through the air, drowning out the rain.

The skinny guard didn’t even see what happened.
He only felt as if his skull had been smashed by a heavy hammer.

Buzz—

His body flew sideways, skidding more than two meters across the rain-soaked ground before stopping like a dead dog.

“Y-you little—!”

The fat guard stared at Luo Shaotian like he’d seen a ghost.

Luo Shaotian himself froze, stunned by his own strike.

He stared at his right hand, still trembling slightly.

That power…
That uncontrollable urge to destroy…

What was going on?

He’d been taking the medicine on schedule…
So why was that suppressed strength surging back now—without any warning?

“Ugh… cough, cough…”

The skinny guard staggered up from the muddy water.
Cold rain drenched him, his dyed yellow hair plastered to his scalp in miserable disarray.

“Ptoo—!”

He spat a mouthful of blood into his palm.

Amid the crimson sludge, a broken tooth gleamed clearly.

“My… tooth…”

After staring at it for two seconds, the fury in his already vicious eyes exploded, bloodshot and wild.

“Motherfucker! Brother Liu! Screw the rules—let’s jump him together!
I’m killing this bastard today!”

“Kai! Calm down!”

The fat guard was clearly more rational. He grabbed the skinny man, lowering his voice.

“The higher-ups said just guard the door. Don’t make a scene. If we mess up Brother Long’s plan—”

“f*ck his plan!”

The skinny guard roared, shaking off his grip.

“I’ve got someone shitting on my neck right now!
If word gets out that people from the Chicheng Gang got ridden at the door and didn’t even fight back—
where the hell are we supposed to show our faces?!”

That roar cut through the rain, drilling straight into Luo Shaotian’s ears.

“…Chicheng Gang?”

The moment he heard those words, the confusion in Luo Shaotian’s eyes vanished.

What replaced it was the gaze of a hunter who had caught the scent of a mortal enemy—
sharp, cold, and tinged with barely restrained… excitement.

So that’s it.

No wonder these “guards” were so arrogant.
No wonder this place felt so wrong.

Turns out it was these sewer rats.

“Oh? What’s wrong? Heard of our name on the streets?”

Seeing Luo Shaotian fall silent, the skinny guard thought he’d scared him.

He pressed his tongue against the gap in his teeth, flashing a vicious, triumphant grin as he toyed with the knife in his hand, stepping closer.

“Since you know who you’re dealing with, why aren’t you kneeling already?!
Right now—kneel down, kowtow three times, call me ‘Grandpa’ three times,
and cough up a hundred thousand for medical fees…”

He pointed the knife’s tip at Luo Shaotian’s nose.

“Otherwise, I’ll teach you what it means when a white blade goes in… and a red blade comes out!”

“One hundred thousand?”

Luo Shaotian looked at the knife gleaming coldly in the rain, the corner of his mouth slowly curving into a dangerously sharp smile.

He dropped the umbrella, loosened his shirt collar, letting the rain soak his chest.

The blood in his body boiled.

Now that he’d confirmed they were trash that needed to be eliminated,
that thirst for violence surged again.

“Money? I don’t have any.”

He took a step forward, his presence crashing down on the two thugs like a collapsing mountain.

“But… since you’re scum from the Chicheng Gang…”

He clenched his fist, his knuckles cracking loudly.

“I’ll gladly send you—free of charge—
to meet your ancestors.”
