Join the ServerHoffman’s “Horseless Carriage” team was surprisingly efficient.
After deciding on the AC motor technology route, they immediately sent a cooperation request to Klein’s mage tower.
Naturally, Lia and Klein would not refuse this kind of cooperation that promoted technological progress.
Klein dispatched Master Grey, along with several of the top craftsmen from the Royal Alchemy Workshop, to assist.
With the “eighth-circle precision machining” technology brought by Master Grey, and the latest improved AC motor blueprint provided by Lia, the manufacturing process of the prototype was greatly accelerated.
The biggest challenge was how to provide a portable AC power source for this “horseless carriage.”
It couldn’t just drag a long power cord around the city.
For this, Lia specially designed a “magic inverter.”
The core of this device was an oscillating circuit composed of special magic runes, which could convert the stable direct current provided by the magic battery into alternating current of a specific frequency.
This was another genius design.
It perfectly solved the problem of using alternating current in mobile devices.
A month later.
In a secret test field on the outskirts of the kingdom.
The prototype of the kingdom’s first electric car was finally assembled.
It looked like a four-wheeled convertible carriage without a horse, its body made of sturdy oak and shiny brass.
Without the harness and horses of a traditional carriage, the front of the car looked exceptionally simple.
Under the seats was a battery pack composed of dozens of small magic batteries.
On the rear axle was a fist-sized AC induction motor, personally crafted by Master Grey.
The team leader, Master Hoffman, excitedly stroked the cold car body, as if looking at his own child.
“We did it…” he murmured to himself.
He gave this prototype a resounding name—”Pioneer One.”
The news soon reached the royal palace.
King Augustus showed great interest in it.
He immediately decided to personally participate in the first public test drive of “Pioneer One.”
The location for the test drive was set on the widest Royal Avenue in front of the palace.
On this day, both sides of the Royal Avenue were once again packed with people.
Nobles, merchants, and commoners all wanted to witness this historic moment with their own eyes.
“Pioneer One” was covered by a huge red cloth, parked quietly at the starting point of the road.
Lia, Klein, President Samuel, and Alistair were all present as special guests, standing beside King Augustus.
“Master Hoffman,” King Augustus looked at the alchemist, who was sweating profusely with nervousness, “are you sure this thing is safe?”
“Rest assured, Your Majesty!” Hoffman patted his chest in guarantee. “We have conducted hundreds of tests, there is absolutely no room for error!”
King Augustus nodded and waved his hand.
“Unveil it!”
The red cloth was slowly pulled away, and the true appearance of “Pioneer One” was revealed to the world for the first time.
A wave of gasps and discussions arose from the crowd.
“Look, there’s really no horse!”
“How is it going to run? With magic pushing it?”
Under Hoffman’s guidance, King Augustus sat in the driver’s seat with some novelty.
The structure of the driver’s seat was very simple, with only a steering wheel to control the direction and two pedals.
“Your Majesty, the pedal on the right is the ‘accelerator’. Press it and it will move forward. The pedal on the left is the ‘brake’,” Hoffman explained from the side.
King Augustus took a deep breath, gripped the steering wheel, and then tentatively pressed the right pedal.
There was no neighing of horses, no cracking of the coachman’s whip.
Only a faint hum of electric current could be heard.
The wheels of “Pioneer One” began to turn slowly.
Then, faster and faster.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, this horseless carriage began to drive smoothly on the Royal Avenue.
King Augustus was a little nervous at first, but he was soon attracted by this brand new driving experience.
He could clearly feel a continuous stream of power coming from the pedal under his foot, driving this steel chariot.
This feeling of having power completely in his own hands was incredibly fascinating to him.
He drove faster and faster.
Ten, twenty, thirty kilometers per hour!
The wind whistled past his ears, and the scenery on both sides retreated rapidly.
This speed had already surpassed that of the fastest horse in the Royal Capital!
The crowd erupted in a thunderous cheer.
They had witnessed the birth of a miracle.
King Augustus drove “Pioneer One” around the Royal Avenue for a lap and finally stopped steadily back at the starting point.
He got out of the car, his face filled with irrepressible excitement.
“A remarkable invention!” he announced loudly. “This is the pride of our Kingdom of Heinrich!”
He looked at Master Hoffman. “In the name of the Royal Family, I will invest one million gold coins in your workshop! I demand that you immediately expand your production scale! I want this horseless carriage to run on every road in the kingdom!”
A brand new transportation industry was born with the king’s declaration.
After the test drive ceremony, Lia and Klein did not stay long at the celebration banquet.
They returned to the mage tower in their own magic carriage.
“Aren’t you going to go down and try it?” Klein asked Lia. “After all, it’s your creation in a way.”
Lia shook her head, leaning against the soft cushion.
“Too slow,” she commented.
Klein smiled.
Indeed, for them, who could teleport through space, an electric car with a speed of thirty kilometers per hour was no different from a crawling snail.
But for the vast majority of people in this world, that was already a breakneck speed.
The electric lamp made the night no longer long.
The telegraph made the world feel smaller.
The electric car gave ordinary people the right to chase the wind.
Magic, the once lofty and mysterious power monopolized by a few, was now integrating into thousands of households in an unprecedented way through the new form of “electricity.”
A brand new electrical age had begun with a roar in the Kingdom of Heinrich.
***
And in the distant north, in the icy and snowy Iron Eagle Empire.
In a secret base buried deep underground.
Konrad von Richter stood before a huge ring-shaped device, expressionlessly looking at the report in front of him.
“Test subject number seven’s mental power has stabilized at the critical value, but consciousness has completely dissipated. Judged as a failure.”
“Test subject number eight, after being injected with high-frequency electromagnetic waves, mental power instantly went rampant, physical form failed to disintegrate.”
Behind him, a researcher asked timidly, “Sir, should we… continue? This experiment of directly interfering with the sea of consciousness with an electromagnetic field is too risky.”
Konrad did not turn around.
His gaze passed over the failed reports and looked at a huge map on the wall.
On the map, on the territory of the Kingdom of Heinrich, light spots representing “electric lamps” and “telegraph bureaus” were lighting up one after another.
“Risk?” Konrad’s voice was as cold as iron. “When the people of Heinrich are enjoying electric lamps and fans, they won’t know that Lia Farrien has opened a door for us to a terrifying domain.”
He picked up another intelligence report from the table.
It was a detailed analysis of Alistair’s telegraph and Lia’s paper, On the Relay Amplification and Attenuation Compensation of Magitech Signals.
“Wired communication? Too primitive,” a cruel smile appeared on Konrad’s lips.
“Since electromagnetism can carry simple ‘on/off’ signals, then why can’t it carry more complex things, like… human thoughts?”
He turned to look at the researcher, his eyes shining with a crazed light.
“Change to test subject number nine.”
“Increase the power, adjust the frequency.”
“I will make mental power into a ‘radio wave’ that can be transmitted freely in the sky. I will make my will descend upon every corner of the Empire.”
“The Kingdom of Heinrich is just an infant that has just learned to walk.”
“And we will fly directly.”
