The word Bodhi was actually something Lin Yu had heard before.
Among the Four Great Classical Novels, Journey to the West featured the Patriarch Bodhi—the one who taught Sun Wukong.
And if she remembered correctly… it was even a pretty proper Buddhist term, wasn’t it?
But when those two words were paired together—
“Blood Bodhi.”
Lin Yu stared at the figure seated cross-legged atop the black lotus. Her throat tightened unconsciously.
No matter how you heard it… that name didn’t sound like anything good at all.
“Thump—”
A dull, faint vibration echoed through the empty Buddha hall.
As if something inside it had collapsed.
The seated pollutant shuddered violently.
The next second, pus and blood seeped out through the cracks in its body.
“Drip… drip…”
Its bloated shell began to wither at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Muscles shriveled and caved in. Skin tightened and clung to bone. Ribs jutted out one by one.
It looked like a dried corpse.
What made the scalp truly crawl, though, was its head.
No hair.
Instead, irregular lumps of flesh bulged up across the scalp.
Those shapes… eerily mimicked the ushnisha—the fleshy protuberance on a Buddha’s head symbolizing enlightenment.
Only these “ushnishas” were not holy gold.
They were a fully ripened, sickly purple-red.
The skin stretched tight, so thin it was almost transparent.
As if the next second they would go splurt, bursting open and spraying foul pus everywhere.
A Bodhi’s face should have been compassionate and dignified.
But Blood Bodhi had no eyes.
Where its eye sockets should have been were two vertical slits.
Within them, ghostly green flames burned slowly, flickering in and out.
And what disgusted Lin Yu the most was its skin.
Skinned-raw red, covered top to bottom in countless white-headed pustules.
Those pustules rose and fell slightly, as if a single touch would make them burst and splatter pus.
“Crack.”
A crisp sound rang out.
Blood Bodhi lifted its head slightly. The two vertical eye-slits locked tightly onto Lin Yu.
Its mouth twitched—then began to tear open.
Wider.
And wider.
Until the裂 opened all the way to the ears, revealing a tangled lattice of gums and black teeth slick with mucus.
“Guānzìzài…”
Blood Bodhi performed a perfectly orthodox prayer gesture, palms pressed together.
“With my current appearance… compared to that shell just now, how is it?”
It was referring to the seductive Xiao Zhu from earlier.
Lin Yu took half a step back, her face filled with undisguised revulsion.
“…Are you kidding me?! You’ve got the nerve to ask?! This is so disgusting it’s disgusting to the core, okay?!”
Blood Bodhi didn’t get angry.
“Hehehe… Benefactor, you are attached to appearances.”
“Mortals are foolish. They cling only to youth and beauty, unaware that…”
“That is nothing more than a red-powdered skeleton.”
Blood Bodhi lowered its head slightly, its tone carrying a trace of sorrowful, compassionate preaching.
“The shell is bright, but the inside is filth.”
“Time flows. All things return to a handful of yellow earth.”
“That so-called beauty is merely a blindfold to deceive sentient beings.”
It extended one finger and gently poked a pustule on its arm.
Splurt.
Yellow-green pus flowed out, releasing a stench.
Yet Blood Bodhi inhaled deeply, as if savoring a fragrant perfume, its expression intoxicated.
“Ah… Benefactor.”
“This is the truth.”
“This is the most fundamental scent of life—rot.”
It spread its arms wide, as though embracing the world. Its voice became fanatical, devout.
“The flesh decays. Flowers wither.”
“Only rot, plague, and the endlessly multiplying bacteria and maggots… are the eternal cycle!”
【The Benevolent Father once said: All things must die, and decay… is rebirth!】
“This body of mine has cast aside illusory beauty and embraced the filth of all beings…”
“Within every one of my pustules are billions upon billions of tiny lives!”
“Is this not the greatest compassion in this world?!”
Lin Yu clenched her teeth and cursed under her breath.
“Trying to reason with a cultist whose brain is full of maggots is a complete waste of oxygen.”
“In that case, let’s ‘exorcise’ him the magical-girl way—physically!”
“Transformation解除!”
She chanted silently.
“Buzz—”
Pink light flashed.
The dark blue qipao—pretty but utterly impractical—vanished instantly.
Replaced by her familiar sailor-style combat outfit.
The skirt fluttered, revealing absolute territory.
Black thigh-high stockings wrapped around calves packed with explosive power.
This time, for infiltration, she hadn’t brought Xiao Bai, nor equipped any psionic weapons.
But Lin Yu was no longer the rookie who could only curl up and cower.
After multiple brushes with death, her magical-girl skills now came as naturally as breathing.
“Since you want to talk about compassion,”
Lin Yu snapped her right hand upward, palm facing the sky, fingers loosely clenched.
Countless pink psionic particles surged together, instantly condensing into a brilliant longbow!
“Then I’ll show you what great compassion really looks like!”
“—Shining Psionic Light Arrow!”
With a sharp cry, the bowstring was drawn to a full moon. A pink light arrow formed instantly on the string!
“Oh…”
Facing the oncoming killing intent, Blood Bodhi remained calm—almost pitying.
“Benefactor… must you give rise to anger and resort to weapons?”
“I merely wished to sit and discuss the ultimate truth of life with you…”
“Discuss my ass!”
Lin Yu had had enough of this mental pollution.
“You freak that looks like a failed mutation—can you have some self-awareness?! Stop existing in this world and grossing people out, okay?!”
“Magical girls hate ugly things! The moment I saw your rotten face, every single cell in my body screamed—”
“—GO DIE!!!”
“BOOM—!”
The bowstring thundered!
A streak of light screamed forward!
No suspense.
No evasion.
“SPLAT—!”
BOOOOOOM—!!!
A violent explosion erupted in the center of the Buddha hall, flames shooting sky-high!
Blood Bodhi’s withered body was like a rotten tomato tossed into a blender—instantly blown into flying gore!
Fetid pus and shredded flesh rained down in all directions.
“Hmph!”
Lin Yu was prepared.
With a flick of her left hand—
“Hmph… don’t touch me.”
A pink lip-shaped barrier with a cutesy expression popped open, blocking every bit of filth.
The smoke cleared.
Where Blood Bodhi had been seated, only a few shattered black lotus petals remained—and a floor littered with twitching scraps of meat.
“…Huh? That’s it?”
Lin Yu blinked in disbelief, then scoffed with obvious disdain.
“I thought a so-called B-class pollutant would be tough… turns out it’s just a glass-cannon mage who can only talk big!”
“Tch. That’s all?”
She clapped her hands, dismissed the bow, turned around, and cocked her chin at Luo Shaotian.
“See that, Boss Luo~?”
“Sure, I can’t match your infiltration acting, but when it comes to purification and demon-slaying…”
“Still gotta let this C-rank senior carry the whole fight, huh?”
However.
Her smug, praise-seeking tone abruptly died in her throat.
Because she realized—
Something was very wrong with Luo Shaotian.
He wasn’t responding.
He wasn’t even standing.
At that moment, the tall, powerfully built man was bracing himself on the floor, writhing in agony, his entire body shaking violently like a sieve.
“Ugh… ah…”
Suppressed groans leaked through clenched teeth—chilling to hear.
“Eh… eh?!”
Lin Yu’s smile froze. Her heart dropped.
She rushed over, reaching out to help him up.
“Hey—what’s wrong with you?! Weren’t you fine just now?!”
“Don’t… don’t touch me!”
Luo Shaotian suddenly flung his arm, slapping her hand away.
He struggled to lift his head.
That face—
Was now terrifyingly distorted.
Cold sweat poured down his face in bean-sized drops. His skin flushed an unhealthy red. Veins bulged across his forehead like writhing earthworms.
“Huff… huff…”
He gasped for air, each breath accompanied by a wet, gurgling sound, like fluid in his lungs.
“N-no… not good…”
He clawed at his chest, nails tearing through his clothes. His voice was hoarse, like he’d swallowed a fistful of sand.
“I… I… there’s something… moving inside me…”
“Hey! Shaotian! Don’t—don’t scare me like that!”
Seeing him like this, Lin Yu felt her heart leap into her throat.
The earlier triumph was instantly drowned in fear.
She crouched beside him, completely at a loss.
“Did you get poisoned by that holy water just now?! Please don’t—please let it not be poison! Tell me you secretly ate a Wallace Mega-Jet Combo before coming… please please please… it’s okay, it’s okay! If it’s just gastroenteritis, that’s easy to treat! Hold on! I’ll get you out—we’ll go to the ER! We’ll do a stomach pump! I—”
“Hehehehehehehe…”
At that moment.
A mocking laugh echoed from all directions.
?!
Every hair on Lin Yu’s body stood on end.
That voice—
It was that thing!
Blood Bodhi?!
She shot to her feet, scanning her surroundings, psionic energy condensing in her hands again.
“That bastard—he’s not dead?! How is that possible?! He was blown to pieces!”
“Hahahahahahaha!”
“Xixixixixixi!”
No reply.
Only laughter—more unhinged than before.
This time, it wasn’t just one voice.
It was thousands!
The clay and wooden statues laughed again.
Deafening. Mind-piercing.
“Blessings! Blessings! What tremendous blessings!”
“Benefactors… why struggle so?”
“Rot is nirvana. Disease is a gift…”
That nauseating voice seemed to exist everywhere, echoing throughout the underground Buddha hall.
“You bastard! What did you do?!”
Lin Yu roared into the void, eyes bloodshot.
“Hehehe…”
Blood Bodhi’s voice brimmed with compassionate cruelty.
“This humble monk merely… planted the benevolent gospel…”
“Within the organs of you both.”
“Damn it!”
Red-date water…
It was that drink!
Still tricked!
In the water…
Or inside that plump, juicy red date…
There must have been that monster’s seed!
“But…”
Lin Yu clenched her teeth, forcing herself to calm down.
If they both drank it…
Why?
Why was Luo Shaotian in such agony, writhing on the floor—
While she…
Aside from feeling a bit bloated, felt nothing at all?
Was it because she was a magical girl?
Or—
“Amitābha…”
As Lin Yu struggled to figure it out, a long Buddhist chant came from the wall to her left.
Crack… crack…
The sound of breaking.
The once-majestic Dragon-Subduing Arhat statue began to crumble, layer by layer.
Dust flew.
And from within it—
That revolting figure emerged once more.
Still wearing that scar-covered red skin.
The fleshy lumps atop its head pulsed faintly.
As if the thing that had been blown to pieces earlier had never been it at all.
“Benefactor… do not be anxious.”
Blood Bodhi slowly stepped down from the altar. Green ghost-fire flickered greedily in its split eye-slits.
Its grin stretched madly, tearing all the way to its ears.
“All beings are equal.”
“And so… blessings must be equal as well.”
It casually pointed at Lin Yu’s lower abdomen from afar.
“Benefactor, why not look down…”
“Is there… a pleasant surprise?”
